The Acer Aspire One is a magnificent machine with only a few minor downsides. If you’re concerned about the lack of upgrade capabilities on the netbook, the massive Aspire One fanbase will be able to help you out. Several user-made applications have been developed by users to eliminate some problems specific to the Aspire One. One particularly notable bit of freeware is a program designed specifically to reduce fan noise from the machine, available here.

Out of nowhere I am suddenly a bona fide member of the netbook craze, and I am very impressed with this little guy! This review will highlight the best and worst aspects of the Acer Aspire One Netbook. The Aspire One is not without its flaws, and for a power user, even the OS needs a good bit of tinkering to get the full potential out of the machine. There is a great user community already, and plenty of information on how to best make use of this little marvel.

Acer has bucked the trend with the Aspire One. The Acer Aspire One is an impressive piece of work. By keeping a close eye on that all-important price, yet hitting all the major areas that need them, it has produced a wonderfully compact companion for the road, or as a roaming PC for the home. Asus better watch out, otherwise it'll lose out big time to this tiny wonder.

We were able to test the Aspire One with the 6-cell battery – at present only available as an optional extra through Acer’s online store for $108.90. This sticks out 3cm from the rear and brings the total weight up to 1.3kg. With the screen set to 40 per cent brightness and all power-saving features off, it ran for 5 hours and 6 minutes with Wi-Fi on. Couple that with the 3-cell battery, which runs for 2.5 hours, and you’ve easily got all-day battery life.

There is little doubt that netbooks are here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future. A recent news article reported that netbooks are now more popular than Apple’s iPhone, which recently overtook the Motorola Razr as the most popular cell phone based on sales. The current generation of netbooks are not notebook/laptop killers, but once equipped with Intel’s Dual Core Atom processor in the coming months, they will be one step closer. Doubling the processing power will no doubt have an impact on performance and things like HD video playback should become a reality.

Acer's Aspire One was the world's most popular netbook in Q3, and it quickly became our favourite too thanks to its great keyboard, nice bright screen, solid spec and - crucially for a Small, Cheap Computer - a low price that has fallen even further online since then. It has a decent appliance-style Linux UI, or you can buy it with Windows for compatibility. The 8GB solid-state drive could be faster, but there's an HDD option if you want speed and capacity.

If you want the cheapest 8.9in netbook out there with the second-best keyboard, the Acer Aspire One is currently the one to go for - though the Asus Eee PC 901 offers better value if your budget stretches further. However, if the 120GB HDD, 1GB RAM version of the One becomes available with a six-cell battery, at a price that still undercuts the Eee, Asus will have a serious battle on its hands. The Aspire One has been a pleasant surprise. There’s a feeling that Acer have developed everything, made every design decision and hardware choice, with the mantra “don’t price it out of the market” ringing in their ears. The end result could’ve been a cheap, flimsy, carbon-copy netbook, but turned out to have more neat touches and design strength than machines $200 more expensive. No, it’s not for everyone, but if web browsing, occasional documents and portability are your daily chores, the Acer Aspire One deserves your consideration.

The Acer Aspire One cuts a pretty good figure. Price wise, it is definitely an interesting alternative as this Linux-based pocket-sized machine that can be used on the go almost anywhere (until the battery runs out 2.5 hours later) retails for only $329. Productivity while out and about is not a problem as Open Office 2.3 is already preinstalled. Firefox gets the user onto the Internet, and an email client http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-mail_client and a messenger are also installed. The games are simple, but entertaining, and in some cases have the potential to become addictive. It is a pity that the installed versions are limited demo versions, particularly as the majority of the games are available free of charge as Flash games on the Internet. The media player is picky. The audio section can handle MP3, OGG and WMA wma files, but MP4/AAC files are ignored.

Although I have sounded negative in a few areas of this review, I really do like the Aspire One. Can I recommend it as a main laptop for a student? No, I cannot. You really do need something that’s larger, more powerful and more durable to serve you through college. If you’re on a tight budget, i can understand the appeal of a $349 laptop, but why not spend $50 - $100 more and get a 15.4″ screen Compaq C50Q or Celeron powered Acer laptop? The larger screen and fuller sized keyboard is a really big deal for usability.

For those looking for an even lower cost budget netbook, the Acer Aspire One is a worthy candidate to think about. This computer has solid build quality to handle being tossed around in a backpack or purse, and modest performance to handle common software applications with ease. Battery life isn't the best with the 3-cell model, so if you spot the 6-cell/160GB version in stock, it is highly recommended that you pick that. While it is not the easiest netbook to upgrade, it does offer a large storage drive to start with and an SDHC expansion slot. Starting as low as $349 it is no question that it blows the socks off the current competing models, which are priced at $499 and up.

Since the prices of mini-notebooks have seemingly been escalating with each new model, we’re pleased to see one for just $349, adhering to the idea of the “low-cost PC.” The 9-inch Asus Eee PC 901 XP ($520 with rebate at Newegg.com, as of this writing) has a faster solid state drive, but the Aspire one offers much more capacity (120GB vs. 12GB) and costs $171 less. And even if you opt for the Aspire one with the 6-cell battery, you’ll still be paying $121 less. The touchpad is small and the vertical buttons are awkward, but we prefer the Aspire one overall because it offers a superior keyboard and much better bang for your buck. In the suddenly crowded field of mini-notebooks, the XP version of the Aspire one offers the best value.

The Aspire One is everything a Small, Cheap, Computer should be. The build quality is excellent, the feature list is not half bad, and it certainly looks and feels the part. Indeed, it's the best-looking SCC we've seen. On the down side, the standard battery is poor and - with the Linux versions at least - getting online using a 3G network isn't straightforward. Of course, the really great thing about the AA1 is that you can tuck it under your arm, go our and feel far less of a tit than if you were carrying a MacBook Air. Worth buying for that alone, if you ask us.

The Acer Aspire one isn’t the only 8.9-inch mini-notebook on the block, but at $379 it’s a pretty good bargain—if you can live with short battery life. However, prospective buyers may prefer the $399 Windows XP version, which sports a larger 120GB hard drive and 1GB of RAM, Others may prefer the longer endurance of the ASUS Eee PC 901’s six-cell battery and its 1GB of RAM, although its $599 price and cramped keyboard will give some pause. The 8.9-inch HP 2133 Mini-Note PC has a sleeker, more durable design, but the Linux version isn’t nearly as consumer-friendly as what Acer or ASUS offers. In the ever-growing field of mini-notebooks the Aspire one is a decent buy for those on a tight budget looking for a secondary PC for getting online. Based on our experience with other netbooks to-date, we're understandably quite disappointed with the Aspire One. With most new netbook models' battery performance lasting three hours or upwards, it's quite a let down on Acer's part to say the least. All hope is not lost however, as there have been news floating around the interwebs of a 5200mAH 6-cell battery from Acer (which is not cheap though). It does have some nice things going for it, such as a larger keyboard, which has a pretty good layout for easy typing. While the screen was bright and clear, the extra space at the sides could have been utilized for a much bigger screen. Software performance was just satisfactory, though as we mentioned in our previous page, power users may want to look for alternatives to the default Linpus Linux Lite OS provided if one is still keen on the Aspire One. The operating system provided, while restrictive, does allow for a simple and easy to use experience for the more novice folks through its nice GUI interface. That's not to say the Aspire One is bad as it's just pretty hard to justify getting one when there are other options available on the market.

As for usability, stakes are covered. The keyboard is surprisingly roomy, with no tricky layout problems to work around, beyond the slightly small function keys - not a huge problem. The touchpad on the other hand is the focus of some frustration, being both tiny and annoy to use for clicking on things thanks to the vertical mouse buttons. A travel mouse is definitely something worth budgeting for. At least you won't need a webcam or microphone, as these are integrated above the screen.

You could say that it’s just typical: after waiting more than a decade for an affordable, portable notebook computer, three turn up at once. Acer’s Aspire One is launching alongside the Asus Eee 901 but even in an increasingly crowded market it stands out thanks to its low price. To try and differentiate its latest mini-laptop from the current rash of releases, Acer is referring to its Aspire One (£199 inc. VAT) as a 'two-handed internet device'. The idea is that you'll use it for browsing the internet and consuming media instead of using it to create music and movies. However, what the Aspire One does have going in its favour is the price. While many ultra-portable notebooks are hitting the shelves at £350, this one is only £199. So while the Aspire one won't offer you as much as the HP Mini-Note or MSI Wind, the bargain price may be enough to swing the balance in its favour.

A great keyboard, a fine screen and a keen price make for a simply superb netbook.

Origen: Tus Equipos Archive.org version

To summarize: The hardware and pricing are a toss up. All models are available online but selection is limited in stores, so look at where they are available. The Asus has a better form with their flatter, wider keys and new innovative touchpad and better portability if you are willing to shell out the extra $100 for the better battery up front. The Acer has had less durability issues and has a form that some would prefer to the Asus, particularly if you are going to use a usb mouse and bypass the touchpad altogether

When Acer created the original Acer Aspire One, it came up with a bestseller that was helped along by the fashionable styling, attractive low price and good overall build and performance. Acer has played it safe with the 10in Acer Aspire One D150, but this may be no bad thing. However, it also means there’s little to differentiate this netbook from the MSI Wind, Asus Eee PCs and the Samsung NC10, all of which have already made names for themselves as great mini laptops.

The age of netbooks has started with models that had 7 inch displays. Very soon all of us noticed that this is not enough, so models with 8, 9 and 10 inch displays became netbook mainstream models. Acer postponed presentation of its 10 inch model for a long time but it seems that they have made a right decision because this will be, probably, the year of transition to 10 inch models. As a reminder, we will tell you that ASUS has announced discontinuance of its 8 and 9 inch display Eee PC models. Finally, in our test lab has appeared Acer Aspire One D150: new Acer’s trump card in the netbook deck. As expected, Acer Aspire One D150 has very attractive price tag and thanks to good build quality and characteristics, this is one of the best netbooks on the market that can be purchased at this moment. These are enough reasons why this netbook should be on top of your list when choosing what netbook you should purchase.

Going by all the usual industry metrics Acer sells more netbooks than anyone else. This is a big deal given the size of the market and growth expectations, but despite its dominance it hasn't until now had a 10in netbook even though the market has been moving in this direction. This is partly testament to the quality of its first outing, the Aspire One, which sported an excellent keyboard for the form factor and very attractive pricing, but also the power of Acer's distribution system. When you're flogging the things in Tesco at £180 a pop you're bound to rack up a few sales, even if the people buying it have no idea what's in the box! Acer's decision to move into the 10in netbook sector makes perfect sense, but its execution doesn't. Despite the larger chassis it has chosen not to improve the keyboard and though the price and spec are in line with expectations, the D150's design and ergonomics don't compare well to the competition. In a market where very little separates one product from another, these are significant failings.

The latest version of Acer's Aspire One mini laptop brings a larger 10.1in screen and the option to fit 2GB memory - double that typical with other so-called "netbook" systems. Combined with good build quality, these attributes mark out the new Aspire as one of the better models of this type now on the market. Acer's Aspire One provides a capable Windows PC in a highly portable package, and the 10.1in screen is a reasonable compromise between the tiny screens of some netbooks and those of full-size laptops. With the optional battery, the Aspire should be able to last for about five hours use, which is useful for mobile workers, although pushing up the weight somewhat.

The new Acer Aspire One has some strong points, but even better netbooks are on the market now, and more are on the way. If you want in on the battery lottery for the long-life battery, then go for it, but even the included battery will give you solid day-long performance, That said, I'd still recommend that you take a peek at what Asus offers with the Eee PC 1000HE. I'm digging that netbook a whole lot more and it only costs a few dollars more.

The Aero interface runs flawlessly, with all the effects. Some stuttering but only noticeable by picky users like me. Windows 7 looks beautiful on this machine and really compliments the high quality LCD included with Acer. Even the slide show wallpaper feature runs nice. The wallpapers transition every 5 minutes and do so very smoothly even with full CPU load!

Despite taking a huge chunk of the growing netbook market, the popular Acer Aspire One has a 9-inch screen, rather than the 10-inch type we prefer. At long last, Acer now has a 10-inch model, the Aspire One D150. The budget Acer Aspire One D150 is a decent performer that gives more expensive rivals a run for their money. Some design trade-offs have been made to achieve its relatively low price, but we expect the D150 to further cement Acer's leading netbook market share.

The Acer Aspire One D150 is essentially a redesigned that shares many of the features of the original Aspire One 8.9-inch units but with a larger 10.1-inch screen and a six cell battery. With its low price tag, this is easily one of the most affordable 10-inch netbooks that can run for over five hours on the battery. Users will have to put up with a few annoyances such as a smaller than average keyboard and potentially getting a lower amperage rated battery than what Acer claims.

We love it when a company sees fit to shake things up a little and cook up some crazy new design. The Acer Aspire One AOD150 is not that netbook. In fact, many of the changes made from the original Acer Aspire One make the Acer Aspire One AOD150 seem more like everything else on the market. And that isn't necessarily a good thing. Seem a little harsh? Let's put this in perspective: the original, 8.9in screen model packed a huge keyboard onto a fairly tiny frame. That keyboard was practically dripping over the sides and we were genuinely impressed for the effort. The Acer Aspire One AOD150 has some strong points, but even better netbooks are on the market now, and more are on the way.

Despite owning a huge chunk of the growing Netbook market, the popular Acer Aspire One has been saddled with a 9-inch screen, rather than the bigger 10-inch type we prefer. At long last, Acer now has a 10-inch model, the Aspire One AOD150. Even better, it's keeping the starting price at $349, which is about $50-$100 cheaper than similarly configured systems from other PC makers. The Aspire One series has been neither the best nor the worst Netbook out there, and Acer's market share to date has largely been based on its lower retail-price strategy. With the basic Intel Atom/1GB RAM/XP setup, you'll get a similar experience to using a Netbook such as the HP Mini 1000 or Lenovo S10, but there are a handful of trade-offs for the AOD150's price.

By late last year, the Acer Aspire One had beat out ASUS's combined offerings to become the top-selling netbook—or so market research firm DisplaySearch concluded. The One's primacy has been confirmed by Amazon.com—which ranked it as its best seller over the Christmas holiday—as well as other sites that monitor laptop sales. The One reached this pinnacle despite a smaller-than-average (8.9-inch) screen and a pair of awkwardly placed mouse buttons, because it was (and still is) the most aggressively priced netbook around. The Acer Aspire One (10-inch) ($350 street) is the long-overdue update, and as its name implies, the screen size has finally caught up with its 10-inch peers. Acer proves that it's still the master of the netbook recession special with the new and improved Aspire One (10-inch).

Acer's top-selling netbook gets even better with a 10-inch display and six-cell battery for just $349. For $349, the 10.1-inch Aspire One AOD150 is an excellent value. It offers a slim and stylish design, good performance, and at least 4.5 hours of endurance on a charge—assuming the 4,400-mAh battery lasts as long as we expect. While the similarly configured ASUS Eee PC 1000HE ($399) and Samsung NC10 ($449) have better keyboards and touchpads and last longer on a charge, the Aspire One beats those machines on price. And in the netbook arena, bang for your buck is the name of the game.

Coming in at $50 to $150 less than most other 10-inch netbooks, the new Acer Aspire One AOD150 is likely to attract the attention of bargain hunters. Unfortunately, its unoriginal feature set means that price is the main thing that makes it stand out from the crowd. Acer's 10.1-inch revision of the Aspire One is decently priced, but it keeps the cramped keyboard of the original.

The Original. Acer fielded the A110L Netbook last summer. These 8.9" netbooks were originally shipped with Linpus Linux Lite. Later on, devices with XP were offered. The tested notebook came with pre-installed Linpus Linux, but was tested with Windows XP Home 32-bit as operating system. This review will clarify in how far the AOA110-Aw is in accordance with out criteria and under which circumstances changing to Windows XP is possible.

This Linux netbook is budget all the way. Outside of the Asus Eee series, the Acer Aspire One models are the best-known netbooks on the market. Currently two models of the Aspire One A110 range are available, one featuring flash (SSD) storage and the other a more traditional hard drive. If you plan to do work on the go, though, or play games, you'll find the stuttering SD very painful – and with the hard drive model's price tag around the £220 mark, it's not so much of a bargain. In that case you'll want to consider looking elsewhere, such as the Asus Eee PC range.

The original Acer Aspire One has proved one of the best selling netbooks, we hear, helped along by its competitive price circa-£200. That first model had a 9in screen and ran a friendly graphical Linux operating system; now we find Acer has kept the bankable Aspire One name and followed the crowd with a 10in Windows XP mini laptop. Unlike the original Aspire One, there’s less to get excited about by this me-too Windows netbook. But while it offers the usual roster of netbook facilities, there is the just-higher than average netbook speed performance, and the distinction of two memory card slots. Battery life is good too.

Acer's Aspire One 531 keeps the netbook ticking over nicely. Acer has led the way at the budget end of the netbook market, but there's little to distinguish its more expensive offerings. The Aspire One 531 looks set to change this, offering a desirable design and good quality. Although the Aspire One 531 doesn't significantly move the netbook market on any further, it is a smart and well-made choice. It's just a shame the battery life is merely average.

Acer has impressed on several occasions with its cut-priced netbooks, but its Aspire One lags behind rivals when it comes to quality and usability. The Aspire One 531 doesn’t offer anything genuinely new, but it’s one of the nicest netbooks available when it comes to styling and quality. Although it comes in at the top end of the Aspire One range, it’s well equipped, with the option of 3G/HSDPA, and if you’re in the market for a mid-range netbook it comes highly recommended.

Google’s Android OS provides a disappointing distraction from an otherwise average netbook. The first time we laid our hands on Acer's Aspire One D250, we were quietly impressed. A slimline netbook with some nice design touches, it was only the stiff competition that left it floundering. As it stands, the novelty merely serves as a brief distraction from the D250's competent but unremarkable charms. There are better netbooks available for less.

We looked at the Acer Aspire One D250 a few months ago – that model came with the Windows XP operating system. This new edition has been updated to include the newer Windows 7 Starter edition, but in addition it runs the Google Android operating system, as an alternative to Windows. Having the Android operating system doesn’t add much to what’s already a decent computer, except for increasing the price.

This new version of the Acer Aspire One D250 with Windows 7 and Android is around £280 – or you can find the first Windows XP version for £199. Put kindly, we’d say that Acer's Android-on-a-netbook project is work in progress right now, with so little actually possible on the Google Linux side. If you need to get things done, you’re still going to have to work in Windows.

The latest version of the 10.1-inch Acer Aspire One D250 is a netbook with a difference. It's the first mini PC we've seen that comes not only with Windows XP installed but also with Google Android, an operating system designed primarily for mobile phones. By including the Android OS, Acer intended to give users of the Aspire One D250 Android faster access to everyday computing applications. While it boots quickly though, the presence of Android soon causes more problems than it solves

Bringing us the first netbook with Google’s much-talked-about Android operating system, Acer has cemented its place in the mini-laptop marketplace. The $349 Aspire One AOD250-1613 comes with both Android and Windows XP in a dual-boot configuration, but once we test-drove the machine, we questioned how just useful this really is to the average user. The AOD250 has a curious second operating system (Google's Android) and long battery life, but its ergonomics are flawed, and Android is less exciting than we hoped.

Can this Aspire One netbook keep a proud line alive? The Acer Aspire One D250 is an extremely portable machine. Not only is it one of the thinnest netbooks we've seen but, for a system boasting a 10.1-inch screen, it's also very light. Weighing just 1kg, this a great netbook for frequent travellers. The Acer Aspire One D250 is a very capable netbook. It boasts the portability - certainly in terms of weight - of much smaller machines, which makes it suitable for those frequently on the road.

Just a few months ago, Acer launched the first 10-inch version of its Aspire One netbook, the D150. It's a good machine, but it has its limitations: a terrible touchpad, bulky dimensions (due to its six-cell battery) and a keyboard that's positively cramped compared with the competition. The Acer Aspire One D250 is a respectable netbook that fixes some of its predecessor's most limiting flaws. The problem is, however, that it doesn't offer any ground-breaking features to make it stand out in the burgeoning netbook market.

Acer used a small keyboard, small touchpad, and worst of all a small battery on what is otherwise a fantastic netbook. Considering how crowded the netbook market has become over the last year I really expected Acer to deliver more with their 10-inch netbook. Yes, it costs less than $300, but that price looks less impressive when other netbooks have better keyboards, better touchpads, and MUCH better battery life for less than $400.

There's no doubt that the D250 is a step forward compared to the original Aspire One. We were, however, hoping for more of a leap forward from Acer. Yes, the use of Intel's latest N280 CPU and the excellent screen are both plus points, and it's priced with rival offerings, but we're left wondering why Acer didn't furnish it with 802.11n WiFi and, perhaps more importantly, why it didn't take the opportunity to design a slightly bigger keyboard. And with the Asus Eee PC 1000HE offering vastly better battery life and a more usable keyboard, the Aspire One D250 just misses out on a Recommended award.

As prices keep dropping in the Netbook Wars, staying competitive among a slew of me-too Atom-powered mini-notebooks is a challenge. While paying $500 for a Netbook was common just a year ago, today, stripped-down yet still functional Netbooks are now pushing $300, led by Dell and its bare-bones Mini 10v. Acer's Aspire One helped define the Netbook to the masses, undercutting the competition at $350, and the latest version drops the price (while slimming down the chassis) with the $298 Aspire One AOD250. For the price, it's hard to find fault with Acer's even cheaper version of the 10.1-inch Aspire One, as long as you're not expecting top-of-the-line features

Mini-notebook screen sizes have been creeping up ever since the 7in Asus Eee PC launched in 2008. Now 10in screens are the norm, and that's exactly what you'll find on the Aspire One D250. The Aspire One D250 is well-built and comes with a good range of features. It's by no means perfect, though, and as with all mini-notebooks, it's important to remember that only suitable for relatively basic computer tasks. A good hard disk and processor with decent battery life, but few distinguishing features given the price.

With most netbooks measuring over an inch thick, Acer found another way to improve its best-selling netbook: Make it thinner and lighter while (most important) not raising the price. With the Aspire One (D250-1165), Acer has eliminated a considerable amount of the plastic of its predecessor, the Aspire One (10-inch), making it slightly lighter and only 0.8 inch thick. It's merely an aesthetic overhaul, though; it keeps the original Intel Atom parts and the below-average (89 percent) keyboard. Still, the street price remains constant at $300 ($350 for the six-cell configuration). The Acer Aspire One (D250-1165) is now thinner and lighter than its predecessor without raising prices.

Usability is paramount when it comes to netbooks, and given the updated keyboard found on Acer's Aspire One 751 it's hard not to feel a little hard done by that the company has opted to use the old Aspire One A110 keyboard on the D250. The new machine is not without its charms, but with the similarly specified Eee PC 1000HE boasting 802.11n, a better keyboard and a barn-storming nine-hour maximum battery life, we suspect many will opt for Asus' offering, especially since it costs the same. Naturally, the Eee PC 1000HE's long battery life means a bigger battery and, in turn, a heavier 1.45kg netbook – it's almost twice as thick, too - it's up to you whether you think it's worth the extra 350g

Following in the attractive, glossy-blue footsteps of previous Acer netbooks, the Aspire One AOD250-1165 continues the product line's tradition of low price, lightweight design, and travel-friendly features. Of course, that description applies to most netbooks, so any netbook looking to break away from the pack today needs something special to distinguish it. Acer's latest Aspire One netbook has a thin design and lightweight price, making it a top contender for budget-minded travelers.

Acer’s flagship netbook gets smaller and lighter. Overall, we’re very impressed with the Acer Aspire One AOD250. It performs very well, and at $298 ($349 with a 6-cell battery), it’s competitively priced compared to both the ASUS Eee PC 1008HA ($429) and the MSI Wind U123 ($379), which, while $80 and $30 more expensive, respectively, have faster processors and long battery life. Still, we’re at a loss as to why Acer felt it needed a nearly identical system in terms of price and performance, albeit one that’s marginally thinner and lighter. We would much rather give up that extra 0.3 inches of thickness for a wider keyboard and touchpad. But, as far as netbooks go, the Acer Aspire One AOD250 is every bit as good as its predecessor, in an even smaller package.

Netbooks are busting out of the 10in screen restriction, with the Acer Aspire One 751 a good affordable example of the type. The stretched display not only offers more screen space, helped by the high 1366x768 resolution, but allows for a normal-sized keyboard which makes typing that much easier. Price tag on our model was around 370€, which is not modest especially for a netbook. Since slightly faster Acer Aspire D150 can be purchased for 70€ less, all comes to one question: Do you need larger display and keyboard? On the other side, when compared to MSI X-Slim X320, Acer Aspire One 751 isn’t that much expansive any more, isn’t it. Since there are just few netbooks with resolution larger than 1024x600, Acer Aspire One 751 comes as natural choice for all users that seek comfortable working experience combined with exceptional portability and autonomy.

Used to be, people were content with a 10.1-inch screen on netbooks. The Acer Aspire One AO751h is a newcomer that goes bigger--to 11.6 inches. While that seems like the sweet-spot screen size for a portable PC (whether netbook or ultraportable), some design missteps with this model lead Acer astray. It's a shame. The AO751 potentially has so much right, but a few key bungles keep me from throwing my weight behind Acer's big-boned netbook. Maybe a deluxe model with a better CPU or a discrete GPU? Maybe less preinstalled gunk to clean out? Whatever the case, as shipped today, this model is tough to recommend.

If your expectations of an 11.6-inch netbook are a device solely for browsing, email and MP3 playback then the AO751’s 5+ hours run-time may tick your boxes, especially if you can find it significantly cheaper than the $399.99 MRSP online and if you do plenty of text entry. That to us screams of a niche too far, however, and we’d rather spend a little more for a stronger processor that can do the screen justice. To make no small amount of noise about the high-definition resolution of your display and then package it with a processor that can’t keep up its side of the bargain smacks of marketing cynicism. The AO751h-1522 certainly puts in a better showing than the earlier versions, but it’s still far from our first choice of budget ultraportable.

Acer's Aspire One 751h is a compromise in features among netbooks that some may like and others could hate. It uses a larger, higher resolution display that gives it a much better working environment. This also gives it a larger keyboard that is surprisingly pleasant to use over long period. The downside is the slower Z series Atom processor that makes the already slow netbook experience even slower. At least it is able to provide long running times with the lower wattage processor and has a very attractive price point.

Netbooks were once touted as small and cheap alternatives to laptops. But, with models like the Acer Aspire One 751, sporting a large 11.6-inch screen, appearing on the scene, it's difficult to know where the boundary between a laptop and a netbook now lies. This is especially the case since, priced at around £380, the 751 isn't that far off the asking price of most low-end laptops. We really love the Acer Aspire One 751's slim frame, amazing screen and spacious keyboard, so we find it incredibly frustrating that Acer didn't kit it out with a faster processor. It's still a very neat netbook, but, with a speedier processor, it could have been one of the best on the market.

The definition of a Netbook keeps getting fuzzier around the edges, with displays growing from the original 7-inch designs, and the selection of CPUs expanding to include Intel, AMD, and Via. If we are to take 12-inch systems such as the HP dv2 and Samsung NC20 as Netbooks (we've so far let them slip in under the wire), than an 11.6-inch model is a sure thing. Acer's 11.6-inch Aspire One AO751h might usher in a new standard for Netbook sizes, but the slower-than-usual processor can lead to frustration.

Call me a notebook geek, but I can't help but get excited anytime a netbook advertises a full-size keyboard and screen specifications other than 10 inches and 1,024-by-600 resolution. The Acer Aspire One (A0751h) was full of promise when it was announced back in early April 2009 as it featured the biggest netbook keyboard to date and the first-ever 11.6-inch widescreen. Battery life, conducted with MobileMark 2007 tests, delivered a superb 7 hours, 15 minutes. For $350, with a unique widescreen and full-size keyboard, we can ignore the Acer Aspire One (A0751h)'s slow Atom processor and the crappy mouse buttons.

The appeal of the new Aspire One 751h is not so much what this netbook adds to Acer's netbook line, although we do like its roomy 11.6-inch screen and new slim design. Rather, the most significant update is what it does away with. Gone is the trademark cramped Aspire One 89-percent-wide keyboard, replaced by a full-width model that's a pleasure to type on. The Aspire One 751h has one of the better screen-and-keyboard combos we've seen on a netbook, but its performance disappoints.

Acer’s first 11-inch netbook offers a bigger screen than the competition and long battery life, but its processor is somewhat slow. If you’re craving a little more screen real estate than the average netbook, along with a high-res display, the $379 Acer Aspire One AO751h combines several compelling features, such as seven hours of battery life and an exceptionally slim 1-inch thick shape. But if all you want is a netbook—and not necessarily an 11-inch one—there are several comparably priced (albeit, thicker) 10-inch models, such as the $399 Toshiba NB205 and the $389 ASUS 1005HA, which run faster and last even longer.

The new Acer Aspire One 751 has a screen that measures 11.6in on the diagonal with a resolution of 1366 x 768 and that’s mighty big for a netbook. As it happens, we were told a few months back that Intel has strict rules about the sale of Atom N-series processors to avoid cannibalising the sales of Core 2 and Centrino products. The large - for a netbook - 11.6in screen on the Aspire One 751 takes these little laptops in an interesting direction. However, the price is getting uncomfortably close to the point where you can buy a proper laptop with a proper CPU

When we come to summing-up our feelings about the 751 it is difficult. We want to love it: it looks great out and about, but has so many issues, it is a nightmare to live with. Yes, the increased screen size is welcomed, but there isn't the performance boost to support it, so it still stumbles through HD content. Sure there could be the opportunity to boost the RAM, but it needs to be remembered that this is still a humble netbook. Overall it's slightly disappointing then, as we had high hopes for the 751. It looks stunning, but the performance isn't compelling enough to make us part with our cash. The crown for the king of the 11.6-inchers is still available.

The Frugal One. With the Aspire One A110/ A150, Acer has passed other Asus EeePC clones last year and reached the Netbook throne. It seems the Taiwanese company has found the right price-performance mix as they sold more and more items without any spectacular aspect and reached a market share of 37 %. With new additions, the product mix covers a wide spectrum of Netbook segment. We had reviewed the immediate successors Aspire One D150 and Aspire One 531 and now focus on the Acer Aspire One D250. Our review shows the improvements built into the model and how it fares with competitors.

Telstra has teamed up with Acer to provide a Windows XP-based netbook solution with a built-in Next G module..The Aspire One ZG8 with an integrated Next G module is one of the best netbooks on the market. The integrated 3G module means there are no dongles hanging off it, and the overall build quality and style of the netbook is superb. We recommend it for anyone who wants a small laptop to get online anywhere and anytime.

The State of the Netbook. The all-time favorite, Acer Aspire One, attempts to deliver high performance, unlike the other typical, Atom-based netbooks, with its Intel Celeron M processor. To find out how well the netbook performs, and whether or not it is worth the buy now that the Apple "iPad" is out, read our in-depth review.

If you want a netbook primarily for internet access or an office suite, the Acer Aspire One 725 is a decent performer. The relatively large display with more pixels is easy on the eyes. The unit runs cool, it is silent even when stress-tasked, it's easy to carry around, and it's built well. But if you look beyond these basic positives, you'll be disappointed.

The Acer Aspire One 725's so-so battery life and sometimes sluggish performance means it's less pleasant to use than an ultrabook or tablet. Its low price, comfortable keyboard and selection of ports, including USB3, Ethernet and a SD card slot, make it reasonably good value if you want a second computer on a budget.

Acer:
