The Acer Aspire Switch 10E tries to lower the barrier of entry for anyone desiring the taste of a 2-in1 tablet-laptop hybrid significantly. At Rs.30,000, it offers a 10-inch netbook with a detachable screen with enhanced touch input. While the device’s screen and bottom panel are encased in a textured blue plastic case that feels nice to touch and hold, the device itself seems bulky and thick – negating the effect created by its brightly coloured shell.

You need to keep the targeting of the Switch 10 Special Edition in mind when looking at its benchmark numbers. This hybrid, from its design to its price point, is designed to be an entry-level product for budget-conscious consumers. And from that perspective, the Switch 10 performs well enough.

With such a low price point, the Acer Switch 10 E is a bit of a bargain. While not the most powerful device around, it’s still perfectly capable for those who want to do little more than edit a document or two, or browse the web while on the move. Battery life is decent and there’s nothing objectionable about the hardware.

While it might not be the fastest or flashiest hybrid out there, it's a well-priced machine with enough oomph to handle most everyday tasks. For anyone in the market for a cheap Windows device, this will just about do the job. But if you’ve got an extra bit of cash available, the £350 Asus Transformer Book T100 Chi offers more power and fewer compromises.

The Acer Aspire Switch 10 E presents consumers with a commendable value proposition. For $349, you're getting a highly usable detachable device which works great as a mini-notebook, a tablet, or in its in-between tent and display modes. Also notable are its outstanding keyboard and touch pad plus a 500GB storage drive in the keyboard base. We measured class-topping battery life with enough stamina for a full workday's use.

A small hybrid with extra storage. Little about the Acer Switch 10 E jumps out at first. The screen is overly glossy and the top-heavy body tends to tip over backward if you're not being careful. Performance is decent, but not what you'd need for an all day, every day mission-critical computer.

I like the Acer Aspire Switch 10 E. Yes, it's the least powerful machine in our round-up, but it also fills a very specific, very portable niche. That's more than I can say of the Acer Aspire E-15, for instance—a relatively powerful machine that unfortunately does nothing to distinguish itself from Toshiba's more powerful C55-C. The Switch 10 stands out, and there are plenty of valid reasons why you might choose to carry one. Would I use it as my default machine? Probably not. It's a bit too small and slow for it to be someone's primary device, I think. But it would be great as a situational supplement to a better-equipped computer.

The Acer Switch 10 we reviewed in June of 2014 had a lot going for it. It had similar specs to this model, except the 2014 version had the Intel Atom chip with higher memory bandwidth and a slightly higher Turbo Boost clock, plus a slightly higher resolution display. It was still slow, but it was otherwise a decent budget PC.

Despite its off-putting design, the $349 Acer Aspire Switch 10 E has several positive qualities that shouldn't be overlooked. For starters, there's the nearly 8.5 hours of battery life that will get you through a full workday or school day. The hybrid is also highly versatile, transforming among four modes with a quick snap and a twist.

The Acer Aspire Switch 10 E is a solid budget device, but like any budget machine there are concessions. The most notable of which comes from the device’s lackluster performance. The Atom processor and slow HDD shouldn’t be too big a problem for people looking to complete simple computing tasks, but try for anything more and you’re going to notice to the laptop’s shortcomings. We would have loved to have seen a higher resolution screen, but the durable gorilla glass finish and solid color contrast proved to be a nice touch. The quality keyboard and touchpad were a pleasure to use and NBR still loves the latchless hinge design.

When it comes down to it, the Acer Aspire Switch 10 E doesn't offer performance or enough features to make it a worthwhile. Its low-brow hardware, an Intel Atom processor and barely HD display don't measure up against its competitors. Beyond that, the battery, which is supposed to last for 12 hours, is beaten in benchmarks by the Asus Transformer Book T100 Chi , and it takes forever to recharge.

The Aspire Switch 10 E is just like any 10" convertible laptop: great for consuming content and doing word processing, not great for creating content and playing games. It doesn't rival the Transformer Book T100 Chi in terms of build and portability, but it does have better value-for-money, and that you can't underestimate.

The Acer Aspire Switch 10 E is a good hybrid all-rounder, and its lacklustre performance is reflected in the budget pricing. We’ll need a full review model before we can cast our final verdict, but it seems like Acer has nailed its target market.

The Aspire Switch 10 E is one of the most inexpensive 10-inch 2-in-1s available right now. It offers the full Windows experience in a sturdy and colorful body, a nice IPS touchscreen, a fairly good keyboard and a big battery, all for $270 at launch and probably a lot less down the road.

The Acer Aspire Switch 10 E for 2015 looks like a possibly good choice for those after a Windows 2-in-1 laptop and tablet without breaking the bank. However, it's a shame that not much has been changed from the original.

Along with all ports - bar the USB 3.0, which is on the keyboard dock - the tablet carries the 30Wh battery, delivering a suggested 12-hours of life per charge. For a small product that's exceptional - but we'll need to get a review device to text just how true that is. It might be budget and have quirky looks, but as 2-in-1s go, the Acer Aspire Switch 10 E looks to be a respectable addition to the Switch family from what we've seen.

Don't allow the Acer Aspire Switch 10 E's low price tag to convince you to buy this machine. It looks good, it feels good, and it even appears to be well-constructed. Unfortunately, it will underperform and you'll wish you'd spent a few extra bucks on something with more power and speed.

The Acer Aspire Switch 10 E is set to go on sale in the UK from around May, with prices starting from £280. It certainly has potential to capture the budget end of the hybrid market, as even if it won't set the world alight in terms of performance it works brilliantly in both tablet and laptop modes. We'll be taking a more in-depth look a little closer to launch, so be sure to check back for our final verdict.

Intel Atom:
