The MacBook Air M2 is the better laptop, but the MacBook Air M1 is close behind. If you can afford to spend $100 or more depending on sales, the MacBook Air M2 is the better pick. It has a separate charging port, a brighter screen, a better webcam and keyboard, significantly more battery life, and slightly more performance power. The MacBook Air M1 is the better choice for those looking to save a bit of money. It’s older, so it’s more likely to go on steep sales, and you wouldn’t be sacrificing much. The MacBook Air M1 has almost 12 hours of battery life and a bright, color-accurate 2K Retina display.

The MacBook Air M2 mid 2022 is a great work machine for those who prefer Apple technology. The laptop’s design has changed, and it no longer tapers on one side, but still remains thin, lightweight, and easy to travel with. This laptop is a good choice for those who work with texts, surf the Internet, watch videos and perform other simple tasks. That’s why the Air line was created back in the day – these are essentially ultrabooks for light workloads. Does it seem like “not enough for the money”? Then perhaps Apple technology is not for you, no matter how snobbish it may sound. Yes, we’ve all heard about the miraculous capabilities of Apple’s proprietary Silicon processors, but the Air doesn’t have active cooling, and even if its theoretical power is extremely high, it will overheat and not be able to handle high-load tasks. Need more? Check out the MacBook Pro series.

Although the MacBook Air is very good, it isn’t perfect. The Midnight finish acquires smudges faster than Grab can lose money; there’s only two USB-C ports and no SD card reader; the display isn’t OLED; and it only comes with 8GB of memory as standard. But these are minor niggles. Fact is, the new MacBook Air is, without doubt, the MacBook that most people should buy. Even Windows users shopping for a new notebook should at least check out the new MacBook Air out at a nearby Apple Store. It might change your mind. It’s super portable, well-built, has a nice display, good performance, excellent battery life, runs silently and cool, and is relatively well-priced (if you go light on the options). All in all, I think the new MacBook Air is a home run. It's everything that most people want from an everyday MacBook. Well done, Apple.

Apple has turned the concept of product pricing strategy into an art form. Be it a phone, a watch, a tablet, a pair of true wireless buds, a desktop computer, or, as in this case, a laptop, no matter what device you’re eying up for purchase, there is almost always a slightly fancier model with some bonus extras that’s so perilously close in price that a voice in your head whispers to you: “…maybe I should spend a little bit more.” For any current prospective MacBook Air buyers, the M2 model is that device. It’s a touch more elegant, it’s a shade more powerful, the speakers are a touch fuller, the screen is a tinge larger and brighter. Put simply, it’s just that tiny bit nicer than the humble MacBook Air M1, which is set to remain on sale as the entry-level MacBook Air for the foreseeable future. Are all those flourishes worth an extra $200? For me, that answer is yes. As is the case so often with iterative consumer tech, it’s the little touches that make the difference, and the MacBook Air M2’s quality-of-life changes improve the quality of the overall experience (the slower SSD excluded). Sometimes it’s okay just to want the nicer product, not the one with the tightest value equation. Times are tough, money is tight, and the M1 Air is inarguably a better deal. But the MacBook Air M2 is a better laptop — the best portable laptop that runs macOS, no less, and if you’re still lugging around an Intel Air model and are in search of an upgrade, you won’t be disappointed.

Battery life is strong enough for a busy work day and the M2 processor doesn’t just chew through basic tasks but is more than capable of running through more ‘pro’ tasks with ease. My only real issue with the MacBook Air M2 (2022) is the price. It’s more expensive than the M1 version which remains a very good buy, and once you start upping the memory you’re not far off the technically superior MacBook Pro 14-inch. If this machine hovered around the £1000/$1000 mark it would be the best laptop without question, but at its current asking price it might be a little too pricey for many.

That leaves a slightly sour taste in the mouth, but does it do enough to undermine the M2 MacBook Air’s overall appeal? If Apple hadn’t raised the price of the base model by £250 I’d be minded to dismiss it with a wave of the hand. Alas, the price hike means anyone who can only afford the cheapest model will be paying more for what is, in one aspect, a slower laptop than the older and cheaper M1. That’s a shame because, in general, the M2 MacBook Air is a triumph. It’s slim, light and attractive. Its battery will last you all day and then some. Its fanless design means it runs completely silently. And it’s a more capable laptop from a performance perspective than any rival Windows ultraportable. In short, there is no laptop that I’d rather take away on a work trip. There is no laptop – if I had to have one computer – that I’d rather have as my daily driver. However, it’s not quite the outright bargain its predecessor was.

The Apple MacBook Air is excellent for school. It's very portable, and its battery lasts easily through a typical day of light use. It has a sharp and bright display, a comfortable keyboard, and a large and responsive touchpad. Its M2 SoC can easily handle general productivity tasks, like text processing, web browsing, and video playback. The SoC's GPU performs reasonably well but loses performance when it gets hot, so it isn't ideal for students in fields like 3D design. Unfortunately, it only has two USB-C ports, and its M2 SoC only supports one external display.

The new sleek design and improved performance of the M2 MacBook Air would make it a must-have upgrade if it had the same price as the 2020 edition with M1 chip. However, the higher price means that many users may prefer to stick with the M1 version for now -- especially if battery life is a top priority. However, if you've got the budget, the M2 MacBook Air is one of the lightest and most elegant ultraportable laptops we've seen, and once more throws down the gauntlet to its Windows-based rivals.

With performance improvements and better-balanced battery life, the new M2-powered MacBook Air 13 is the better option for a new laptop, even at the higher price of $1200. However, if you already own the M1-powered version, you have to decide whether these upgrades would be of help for your workday.

The MacBook Air M2 is simply the best laptop for the money based on my testing. You get stellar performance, a vibrant display and superb battery life all wrapped up in a design that is delightfully portable. Yes, $1,119 is a steep price, but I would easily recommend this system over the $999 MacBook Air M1 staying in the lineup because of its better performance and display, along with sharper webcam and MagSafe charging. The Dell XPS 13 is another great choice, which starts at $999 for a 12th gen Core i5, 8GB of RAM and 512GB SSD. A Core i7 model with 16GB of RAM brings the price to $1,249. If you want an OLED display, you’re looking at a Dell XPS 13 Plus for at least $1,599. (You can also check out our detailed Macbook Air M2 vs Dell XPS 13 Plus comparison). There are some things I don’t like about the Air M2. I wish you could connect more than one external monitor, and the notch at the top of the display is a bit of an eyesore. But overall I would highly recommend the MacBook Air M2. It is the new laptop to beat.

Apple generally discontinues the previous generation of devices when it launches a new one. That, however, has not been the case with the MacBook Air. You can still get the M1 MacBook Air, which remains a truly impressive product — it was launched almost 18 months ago — and cheaper than the M2 MacBook Air. The M2 MacBook Air starts at Rs 1,19,900 and the new design is certainly impressive. The M2 processor asserts Apple’s supremacy in the chipset game as it builds on an already successful processor and makes it better. The upgrade in terms of performance might not be too obvious but it’s noticeable enough. The all-new design of the M2 MacBook Air will be a bone of contention for many buyers as the old wedge design is still adored by many. Apple’s M2 MacBook Air’s biggest competitor is the M1 MacBook Air. At Rs 99,900, the M1 MacBook Air is still a superb option for most buyers as long as you aren’t in the market for all things new and shiny from Apple. Having said that, Apple has got another winner on its hands with the M2 MacBook Air. You can buy it and rest assured — barring mishaps and bad ‘luck’ — you are sorted for the next 4-5 years. The Rs 20,000 question here is whether you should buy the M1 MacBook Air or the M2 MacBook Air. You will get a better webcam, an all-new design, a MagSafe charging port, a newer processor and then some with the M2 MacBook Air. Apple has made its best laptop — for most buyers — better and that is always a good thing.

The MacBook Air M2 slots in ahead of the already superb MacBook Air M1, tempting would-be owners with a more elegant design, greater peak performance, and quality-of-life changes like a higher-res webcam, brighter screen, and fuller speakers. The Air M1 is inarguably still a better value buy, but the little extra touches make this the better laptop — Apple's best MacBook Air to date, no less.

With that in mind, however, the M1 MacBook Air from 2020 is slightly cheaper, starting at US$1,000. It has a slightly different design, but is only a tiny bit heavier and may be slightly more compact thanks to a smaller display. Its keyboard is also excellent, though not quite as much since it doesn’t have a full-sized function row. But the M1 processor, older as it may be, is no slouch, and if you already have one of those machines, there’s no reason to upgrade right now. And if you feel like saving a bit of money, you can buy the older M1 Air without losing too much.

The MacBook Air M2 is a well-rounded pick for anyone that prioritizes display quality and battery life without sacrificing too much in performance or aesthetics. The squared off chassis is even more breathtaking than the MacBook Air M1 or MacBook Pro 13, and it finally gets the much-needed webcam upgrade. While both MacBook Air models are excellent productivity laptops, the M2 Air’s larger display, improved battery, and modern look make it the better buy.

The new M2 MacBook Air is a class act and a good upgrade over the older M1 MacBook Air in pretty much every way. It is more expensive by about Rs. 20,000 which is on the steeper side for sure, but it might be worth it if you want the latest MacBook design, a better webcam, MagSafe charging, and a newer processor. I would suggest choosing at least a 512GB SSD in order to avoid any potential bottlenecks. If your budget permits, spring for the 10-core GPU variant which automatically gets you that much storage plus the higher-wattage power adapter. Apple's new M2 SoC is a decent incremental update over the M1 but if you're expecting a dramatic improvement like we got going from Intel to Apple silicon, then that's not the case. Depending on your video editing or transcoding workflow, you may or may not see an improvement going from M1 to M2. If you're getting a MacBook Air strictly for casual use or lighter workloads, then 2020's M1-based model is still more than capable. In fact, it's far better value for money.

It is only when you are a frequent traveller that you realise the impact a few extra grams in your backpack can have on your health. I started appreciating the convenience of lighter computers once I became a regular at airport security and the long lines at airline gates and immigration counters. A heavier device starts taking its toll on your shoulders and back, so much so that finally you start dreading your next trip. And this long fight with spondylitis is what made me move to an iPad as my primary device while on the move. But on a quick trip to the US last week, I packed Apple’s new MacBook Air M2, because it was as light, or maybe a lighter, than the iPad Pro which has been my fellow traveller for years.

Even though it costs $200 more than its immediate predecessor, I still think the new M2 version of Apple's MacBook Air is a great default starting place when you begin your laptop search. In the 14 years since the MacBook Air line launched, I've often described it as "the most universally useful laptop you can buy." That's because the Air has always attempted to hit a delicate balance between price, portability, ease of use and features. And since 2008, Apple has succeeded in nailing that formula more often than not. Thanks to a new design, a larger display (13.6 inches versus the previous 13.3 inches), a faster M2 chip and a long-awaited upgrade to a higher-res webcam, I feel comfortable keeping that "universally useful" title for the new 2022 version of the MacBook Air, with one caveat. At $1,199, the $200 increase over the traditional $999 MacBook Air starting price is a disappointment. Note that we're reviewing the step-up $1,499 configuration, which adds more GPU cores and more storage space (but still only includes 8GB of RAM).

For long the MacBook Air has been a go-to laptop for most people. Reason: it is arguably the best value for money laptop ever created. With the Air M2, however, Apple is pushing the Air series upwards, both in terms of its feature set and its price. The laptop now gains a display that is closer to the screens of MacBook Pro laptops. It also gains a design -- those full-size function keys -- and a sound system that is more upmarket. All of these are welcome additions to the Air. But they come at a cost. Literally. The price of the Air M2 starts at Rs 119,900 and that I believe is on the higher side compared to what it offers. I feel the Air M2 is a fantastic laptop but it no longer carries the kind of value that the previous Air offered. Instead, for most people I recommend the Air M1 which continues to be on sale in India in its base variant (256GB storage + 7-core GPU). Combined with the discounts that Air M1 often gets, it is a much better purchase than the Air M2.

If you already have an M1 MacBook Air, you probably don’t need to upgrade to the M2. If you’re running an Intel Mac of almost any kind, however, you’ll achieve an immediate performance boost when you move to Apple Silicon. Always get the best Mac you can afford. When you do, accept that Apple will introduce a better model of what you just acquired years before you are ready to upgrade. You should also pay for additional memory, as this is one of the best ways to boost performance and future-proof your device. Don’t neglect that Apple still offers the M1 MacBook Air for just $999. This is an excellent price for an also excellent machine, and if you’re looking for a second Mac, or a machine to make available as a resource to desktop-based teams, that may well be the way to go. Yes, the M2 model is better, but the M1 remains a huge improvement above older laptops, including Intel-based MacBook Pros.

There are some things I don’t like about the Air M2. I wish you could connect more than one external monitor, and the notch at the top of the display is a bit of an eyesore. But overall I would highly recommend the MacBook Air M2. It is the new laptop to beat.

In the current MacBook product line, the new Air, like the 16-inch Pro, is an extreme existence. The difference is that the Air is extremely thin and light, while the 16-inch Pro is the ultimate performance . These two products always correspond to a very small part of the crowd. For most ordinary people who swing between these two products, the 13-inch Pro is relatively portable, and its performance can also cover most needs. It’s an easy choice. As for this Air update, what excites us most is not only its new thin and light appearance but also the performance that is sufficient for this thin and light appearance. With the iteration of M-series chips,

The MacBook Air is back with a new design for 2022, and it sports Apple’s new M2 processor, which Apple rightly claims is 18% faster than the M1 for multicore performance and 30% faster for graphics. The modern redesign ditches the wedge and the 2.7 lb /1.24kg Air look like a thinner and smaller 14” MacBook Pro. It has a larger 13.6” display that’s no longer second fiddle to the 13” MacBook Pro’s, and it has smaller bezels, a 1080p webcam and MagSafe. Apple’s upping the ante for 13” Ultrabooks in the $1,200 to $1,500 price range.

The new MacBook Air M2 is a laptop we'll be able to recommend without hesitation. It's the perfect Mac for everyday use and light workloads. Thanks to M2, you'll be good for medium usage, such as multiple tabs, photo editing, and video editing, on top of all your everyday essentials. There's a slight price jump from the last model at $1,000 to $1,200, but with the new design and extra power, that's a justified increase. If you're looking for the most extreme Mac, this isn't for you. You'll need to turn to the Pro options, or consider a desktop. But it's not supposed to be. MacBook Air is Apple's best-selling laptop for one reason – it's the every-man machine. And this latest MacBook Air M2 is exactly that, once again.

The new MacBook Air is a success on virtually every level. It’s got a better screen, thinner and lighter design, better speakers, a much-improved webcam, an excellent keyboard and trackpad, more convenient charging, and excellent build quality. But that success comes at a cost, literally, and the performance advancements over the M1 model aren’t as stark as the design and feature improvements are. The M2 Air is a better choice for the vast majority of people over the 13-inch M2 MacBook Pro model, even though the Pro has slightly better performance and longer battery life. The harder choice for many laptop buyers coming from older Intel MacBooks or even switching from Windows to Mac for the first time will be choosing between getting similar performance and battery life with the M1 Air for a significantly lower cost (especially when you consider how easy it is to find M1 models discounted) or paying more for the better quality of life features that come with the M2 model. I’d personally lean towards the M2 Air — the thinner design and better screen are very compelling for me...

The M2 MacBook Air builds on the already excellent foundation established by the M1 MacBook Air. The new design is stylish, very portable and a pleasure to use. The larger 13.4in Liquid Retina display gives you more space than before, and the M2 chip delivers noticeably better performance with class-topping battery life. All up, with the New MacBook Air with M2 chip onboard, there’s little that anyone would want from a laptop intended for day-to-day use, and we absolutely love the new Midnight colour!

The latest chapter in the MacBook Air’s (starting at $1,199, reviewed at $1,899) saga is compelling to say the least. The laptop eschews the wedge design of old for a look that puts it squarely in MacBook Pro territory. But staying true to its name, the Air is 20% smaller than its predecessor in terms of volume. You even get some snazzy new colors to choose from this time around. Apple’s also added a few other new goodies such as a 1080p webcam, a new speaker setup and a bigger display. But the real star of the show is the Apple’s M2 chip, which offers great performance for an ultraportable laptop. It’s faster and more powerful than the previous model and is ideal for anyone looking for a super-light workhorse. Plus, it lasted over 14 hours on our battery test and has fast charging. Barring a couple flaws, the MacBook Air M2 is nearly perfect. It’s a bit pricey, but for the performance, portability and endurance, the M2 Air is the latest entrant to our best laptops page and hands down the MacBook you should buy.

The one downside to the MacBook Air's revamp is that it now starts at $1,199, $200 more than the M1 model. That older machine is still a decent option if you find it on sale or refurbished, but otherwise I'd say the M2 model is absolutely worth the extra cost. Just be prepared for the price to rise quickly as you start adding extra hardware. If you wanted to bump up to our review unit's specs, you'd have to pay $1,899. Personally, I'd say prioritize throwing in as much RAM and SSD storage as you can. The M2 chip will still be very capable without the $100 upgrade for the more powerful GPU. It’s remarkable to think how far the MacBook Air has come since 2008. It used to be overpriced and underpowered, a testament to Apple’s tendency towards style over substance. Since then, the entire PC industry jumped aboard the ultraportable bandwagon, and Apple found a way to pack a ton of power into a razor-thin case. Now, the MacBook Air is arguably Apple’s best laptop yet.

The main downside is the price. There’s no avoiding the £249 hike, and Apple retaining the M1 in the line-up feels like tacit admission that this new Air isn’t an entry-level machine in the usual sense. But it is an excellent laptop that – in the world of Apple – is reasonably affordable. And given that the M2 is more than enough for most tasks, this is the Mac to buy unless you’ve very specific needs.

The Apple MacBook Air (2022, M2) is a massive upgrade to an already iconic laptop. From the new design to the added features and the beefed-up M2 chip, this is the best version of the MacBook Air that Apple has ever made. It’s not the best Mac that Apple offers, but it’s clear that this is easily the best Mac for everyday users. When listening to music, the M2 MacBook Air's speakers performed better than video in our experience too, with The Beatles' Here Comes The Sun and Ed Sheeran's Shape of You both sounding great - though again, not quite as good as the M1 MacBook Air. There's not huge amounts in it but worth a mention nonetheless. For the everyday user, the MacBook Air (M2, 2022) is a superb machine with a fabulous lightweight design, excellent and fluid performance and very, very little (basically nothing) to complain about. The MacBook Air (M2, 2022) is Apple's follow-up to the best laptop it ever made, and while it comes close, it doesn't quite beat the previous model. Based on our initial impressions, the new MacBook Air 2022 could be one of the best laptops of the year. The design is delightfully portable, and the display is simply awesome in person. I also like the powerful sound system and the potential of the mighty M2 chip. So who would get the $1,299 / AU$1,999 13-inch MacBook Pro? Anyone who wants even more power (thanks to its active cooling system) and 10-core GPU standard. Plus, the Pro offers even longer battery life of up to 20 hours of video playback. First impressions are good. In many ways, it looks and feels like a smaller, thinner, lighter 14-inch MacBook. And that’s no bad thing. I think all that remains is to see just how much faster the new M2 chip is and whether it’s worth ponying up the extra dough for this new MacBook Air, or get the older M1 MacBook Air (which remains in the lineup) and save some money. The new MacBook Air is available in two off-the-shelf configurations. One with an 8-core GPU and 256GB of storage for S$1,699 and another with a 10-core GPU and 512GB of storage for S$2,149. Overall the new MacBook Air is likely a dream computer for many people. It looks great, it’s light, and it offers ample performance under the hood. However, Apple continues to sell the 13-inch MacBook Pro (now with an M2 chip) and the older M1 MacBook Air, which is still a great computer. I’m attracted to the new Air ($1,499) since it’s new and looks the best of the three, but if you want to save $200, the base-level Air ($1,299) is still a fine laptop. If you do a ton of high-performance work, perhaps the M2 13-inch MacBook Pro ($1,699) is the better option. That said, it doesn’t seem like a machine that should cost more than the new Air, mainly since it only includes fans and a slightly larger battery. This messy medium-tier laptop sales strategy may allow Apple to hit more price points and ideally bring in new customers. Still, with the minimal differences between the two MacBook Air models and the MacBook Pro 13-inch, I think consumers are likely going to be confused. Further, it would be nice to see Apple attempt to build a machine that’s the best of all three.

Against all odds, we got a look at the brand-new MacBook Air (M2, 2022) just moments after it was officially unveiled at WWDC 2022. Plenty of speculation has surrounded this powerful little laptop in recent weeks, from a potential host of color options to the chance that it might not make an appearance at the event due to manufacturing issues caused by Covid-19 lockdowns across China. We're glad that Apple managed to pull through and deliver, but will the M2-powered MacBook Air be a worthy upgrade from its predecessor? Luckily, TechRadar was at the in-person event -- one of the first in years after pandemic-related lockdowns -- and was able to spend a decent amount of time kicking the tires on the new laptop in order to create our first hands-on review of the atmospherically thin new Air.

The new MacBook Air M2 (2022) looks so good that you're going to wonder if you should pay for a MacBook Pro. Compared to the previous MacBook Air M1, you get a more powerful M2 chip, bigger and brighter 13.6-inch display and improved 1080p webcam in an extremely portable design that's 20% smaller than the previous model. The catch? The new MacBook Air starts at $1,199 / AU$1,899, which is $200 / AU$400 more than the MacBook Air M1 and just $100 / AU$100 less than the new 13-inch MacBook Pro 2022 with the same M2 chip. I just went hands-on with the new MacBook Air 2022, and I came away impressed with its display, sound and sleek redesign (especially the new Midnight blue color). But the price is steep for a MacBook Air given that people are used to paying $999 / AU$1,499 for a laptop in this class.

The latest MacBook Air appears to tick the right boxes: it debuts an M2 processor that should provide big performance gains, while also boasting a lighter, refined design that brings it into line with the MacBook Pro (2021). Our first impressions, then, are incredibly promising. It might not showcase anything mind-blowing, as the first model did all those years ago, but it certainly fills the entry-level MacBook slot with an improved and compelling option. With the advancements Apple has made, we suspect this will be very popular with those who crave an Apple laptop but don't require the power of the MacBook Pro.
