Call it the emancipation of Apple, the company’s freedom song or just plain liberation. With the advent of the M1 chip, Apple is free –– free to be faster and stronger, free to dominate. And the company’s wasting no time in asserting its dominance. Not only does the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1 have better overall and graphics performance, it has some of the longest battery life we’ve ever seen on a laptop. Apple could have stopped there, but instead, you get faster web page loading times, a more powerful camera and seamless integration between Mac, iPad and iPhone thanks to native Universal apps. The 5nm chip even improves the camera and microphones. However, with all this impressive power, it would have been nice to get a new design, or at least a new color. Some other things that continue to grace our MacBook wishlist are slimmer bezels and more ports. If you are looking to save a few bucks and get somewhat comparable performance and a brighter display, consider the $999 Asus ZenBook UX325EA. But if you’re looking for the fastest, most powerful premium laptop in the land, say hello to the new king.

The Apple MacBook Pro M1 is not your usual run-off-the-mill laptop. The price may surely seem too high for many but, it is about what the laptop offers you at that price point. You get the performance that you deserve to get the most seamless workflow ever. Besides, you just can’t compare the MacBook Pro M1’s performance with any Windows laptop out there. The M1 chipset is on a whole different level that is designed to bring top notch performance to the table. Take your business and editing anywhere and everywhere with you with the Pro M1 model. It is worth every bit of your penny and I assure you that. However, what I would recommend is not getting into experiencing MacOS from a Windows user’s perspective. That will definitely cloud your judgement. Both the operating systems are world apart. There are advantages and disadvantages in both the operating systems and none is perfect. You just have to take a leap of faith into the new world of MacBooks and the Apple MacBook Pro M1 will not disappoint you.

The MacBook Pro M1 is easily one of the best 13-inch laptops money can buy. You get blazing performance and epic battery life for your $1,299. And yet the speed gap between the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air with M1 is not that great. There are some reasons to splurge for the MacBook Pro with M1, though. You get better sustained performance for larger tasks, because the MacBook Pro has a fan and the Air does not. And I do appreciate that the MacBook Pro has a brighter display and a better GPU for its opening price. If Apple threw in two more Thunderbolt ports I think the Pro would be an easier sell. Some may prefer the MacBook Pro 14-inch, which sports a larger 14-inch mini-LED display along with a more powerful M1 Pro chip and more ports. However, that laptop starts at $1,999. A new entry-level MacBook Pro 2022 with an upgraded M2 chip is reportedly launching later this year, but we doubt that it's launching anytime soon. Overall, I really like the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1 and it’s an excellent choice for power users.

For our purpose of mobile work, the M1 MacBook Pro is a completely sufficient replacement for our 15in MacBook Pro, offering both high speed and unprecedented battery life (we managed two working days in a row without charging in between). The small form factor does not bother us as much as we thought it would, on the contrary: it fits much better in our backpack. The screen is bright and brilliant. The biggest compromises are the sound (but we have other output devices for that), and the poor 720p camera. The camera is one reason why we can hardly wait for the 14in Macbook Pro said to be coming later in 2021 - that could even bring Face ID.

Overall, I really like the MacBook Pro 2020, but the newer MacBook Pro with M1 chip is a generally better option because Apple Silicon delivers faster performance and longer battery life. The main reasons to get this $1,799 configuration of the 13-inch MacBook Pro is if you want to stick with Intel and have four Thunderbolt 3 ports instead of two.

Do you think that the power of the Apple silicon will push Intel and AMD to the ARM architecture, or you think that team Blue and team Red are yet to show their true power? Regardless of anything, the laptop we tested today is the foundation of something great, and as AMD likes to say – it will mature like fine wine, especially as developers continue to create ARM desktop applications, and as Rosetta 2 gets updated to support even more x86 programs.

The new Apple MacBook Pro powered by the new M1 processor by Apple sets an incredible new standard. This applies to both performance and battery life. This machine can easily take on photo and video editing in any of the popular applications like Adobe Lightroom Classic, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and more. Amidst this kind of performance, you can also expect exceptional battery life, with almost 6 hours of continuous editing and nearly 18 hours if you just stick to the normal workloads. There's hardly anything to fault here, and we're talking about the base, entry-level machine!

We've spent over a month with all three of Apple's M1 Macs, testing them and comparing them to other computers including Intel-based Macs and Windows laptops. Over this past month, it's been made clear that Apple is currently revolutionizing the personal computing industry in ways that many didn't even imagine. Apple is doing it with their very first Apple Silicon chip, the M1, which is meant to replace the lowest-end entry-level Intel chips. So far.. the performance is so good that it's taking on even the highest-end Intel Macs in various different use-cases. I also discuss gaming, which was hugely controversial when Apple first announced the transition to their own custom chips, especially since Boot Camp support is going away. However, ever since people got their hands on these new Macs, the gaming side of the M1 Mac has been thriving.

If you are looking to buy a new laptop and don't mind spending Rs 1,22,900, you can't go wrong with the new MacBook Pro. It is worth every penny. It is a fantastic general-purpose computer that almost everyone -- except gamers -- will love. It is perfect for working professionals, and perfect for students. For gamers, obviously, there are better laptops out there. The M1 chip offers great graphics performance compared to previous Intel chips, but the MacBook Pro is not a gaming laptop. Then, there is the new MacBook Air M1 13-inch. The performance difference between the two laptops is not much, though Pro has a brighter screen and better battery life, and if you are not going to edit a lot of videos, create 3D models or compile programs you will be more than fine with the new Air. Essentially, you can buy either the new Pro or the new Air, and you are going to get an extremely fast computer with arguably the best ever battery life in a laptop. Yes, M1 is that good and so is the MacBook Pro 13-inch.

These ARM-based CPUs offer tremendous performance, heat and battery life improvements, even when relying on Apple’s Rosetta 2 Intel emulation mode. Apple’s own programs are ARM-native as is the Big Sur operating system these laptops ship with. A growing list of 3rd party programs are going universal or native with M1 support. The casing and design for both machines is identical to their Intel predecessors. We compare the 2 laptops, look at compatibility issues, and compare them to Windows competitors and more powerful Mac laptops like the 16” MacBook Pro. Prices for the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1 processor start at S$1,849. It's not cheap but if it lives up to its performance claims, it could be something of a bargain. If you absolutely cannot wait, I wrote earlier that it should be safe to update to these new Macs if your usage centres around Apple's own apps and web apps. Those apps have been designed to run on M1 and would work flawlessly out of the box. On the other hand, if you rely on a lot of third-party apps, it's prudent to adopt and a wait-and-see approach – unless your bank account ends in more zeroes than you care to count.

But from what I can tell of the MacBook Pro 13-inch, there aren’t any. I’m sure over time as more people use the laptop, issues will creep up.
