The iPhone 13’s brighter display, longer battery life and powerful cameras make it the best iPhone for the money. But we wish it had faster charging and the iPhone 13 Pro’s adaptive 120Hz display.

The iPhone 13 improves on what was already the best iPhone for most people by introducing a bunch of welcome enhancements. I especially like the longer battery life, as the iPhone 12’s endurance was underwhelming even for a 5G phone. I wouldn’t recommend that iPhone 12 owners upgrade to the new iPhone, but the iPhone 13 is worth it if you own an iPhone 11 or older device. I don’t think many people will care about the smaller notch. What truly stands out on the iPhone 13 is the camera. The low-light performance is even better now, and computational photography features like Cinematic mode and Photographic styles flex the A15 Bionic’s muscles in ways that go way beyond benchmarks. I’m also glad Apple doubled the starting storage at 128GB, as that move was overdue and puts the new iPhone on a par with Android flagships. I’d like to see Apple offering faster charging next time around — be it via USB-C or MagSafe — as well as a 120Hz display. The bottom line is that the iPhone 13 is a fantastic phone and raises the bar for what you think a camera phone can do.

We're pretty confident when we say that the iPhone 13 is the best iPhone for most people. It may look like Apple has only changed the position of one of the phone's back cameras since last year's model, but trust us when we say that there are more substantial upgrades than that. With a new display, larger battery and better camera hardware and software, the iPhone 13 is the new benchmark for flagship phones. Once again, Apple's made the iPhone 13 far more powerful than its Android competitors thanks to its 5G-ready A15 Bionic chip. If the raw performance doesn't interest you, photographers can play with the new Photographic Style filters in the camera app, while videographers will be excited by the new Cinematic mode focus-racking ability. The regular iPhone 13 has some flaws. The charging is still relatively slow compared to some Android phones. And I don't like that only the iPhone 13 Pro models get a 120Hz display and telephoto zoom. But based on my in-depth iPhone 13 review, this new iPhone is the best phone for the money.

Apple doesn’t do things by accident. Every feature of the iPhone 13 was carefully calculated and plays a specific role in the larger iPhone 13 family. The company has provided consumers with four phones to choose from, ranging in price from $699 to $1,599 depending on the model and storage options. With a starting price of $799, the iPhone 13 is the device most consumers are likely to pick based on its balance of cost and capabilities. The iPhone 13 has a lot going for it. It covers the sub-flagship basics with a large, pixel-rich screen, all-day battery life, and a toughened, water-resistant chassis. It goes a step further than rivals with killer performance, near-universal 5G support, and an unmatched software ecosystem. Some things do hold the iPhone 13 back. Charging speeds aren’t quite up to par with the competition, and the cameras only match competitors rather than surpass them. Moreover, the proprietary Lightning port is still a pain. So who is the iPhone 13 for? It’s for people who want to make the safe choice.

Although not drastically different from its predecessor, the boost to battery life for this generation makes it an ideal choice for those seeking a big-screen device. Sure, you do miss out on a handful of nice-to-have features compared to the Pro model - including the telephoto zoom lens and 120Hz fast-refresh display - but the iPhone 13 is still an excellent all-round device that, importantly, doesn't cost quite as much.

Fundamentally, Apple has decided to go with deeper and more lustrous shades of green, and you may or may not like it. Colours are subjective, after all. Personally, I would like to see them attempt a more electrifying and brighter shade of green like Lamborgini's Verde Ithaca. Prices of the phones are unchanged. So you are looking at a starting price of S$1,799 and S$1,649 for the iPhone 13 Pro Max and 13 Pro respectively, and S$1,299 and S$1,149 for the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini respectively. The phones are available for pre-order now on the Apple Online Store and will be available from 18 March. Alternatively, you can also consider getting it via Amazon. If you're using a HSBC card on Amazon where a minimum purchase of S$650 or S$1,000 is made, you're also eligible to receive a S$50 or S$75 Amazon.sg gift card respectively. This offer is applicable until 25th March 2022 (or when fully redeemed, whichever is earlier).

The strengths of last year's model have only been amplified with the iPhone 13, which delivers some of the best performance on the market, bolstered by exceptional camera quality, and the improved battery life that fans have been asking for. All of these standout upgrades, however, also accentuate its weakness, which at this point feel explicitly engineered to push people towards the pricier 13 Pro. That 60Hz refresh rate on an otherwise excellent display stops it from being one of the best around, while there's seemingly no sign that Apple intends to improve its charging speeds or add a telephoto camera onto anything other than its Pro phones. If you need that higher refresh rate or better zoom capabilities in your life, there are a host of Android alternatives across almost every price point that should satiate, otherwise, your only options are really this year's pricier iPhone 13 Pro or 13 Pro Max. Of course for some, 60Hz is plenty good enough and a pair of rear cameras still covers a range of photographic scenarios.

If you thought that the base model iPhone 13 will be severely lacking behind the Pro variants, it’s not. This is the gold standard of what a smartphone should be not just in 2021 when it was launched, but also in 2022, especially with retail prices starting from RM3,899. The deciding on factor whether you should get this or the other iPhone variants is what you want / need in a smartphone. For a more versatile camera setup and high refresh rate, go for the Pro variants. You want a bigger display? Go for the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Want something even more compact? Go for the iPhone 13 Mini. Otherwise, the base model will serve you excellently. At the end of our Apple iPhone 13 review, I award this smartphone with our coveted Gold Pokdeward.

But while most of these Android flagships bring comparative and even better hardware in some departments, they still trail the iPhone in the matter of software upgrades and consistent performance over a period of time. We have been using the iPhone 13 for over two months now, and it still purrs along smoothly. Given Apple’s track record, it is likely to continue being a great performer for quite a while and still get a good value when one finally decides to sell it. This is why we think the real challenge to the iPhone 13 is not the Android brigade but its iPhone 13 mini sibling, which brings exactly the same spec sheet but with a smaller display and form factor at a lower price; and the iPhone 12, which remains a formidable proposition even today. Of course, there are some visible improvements that the iPhone 13 brings to the table, with camera and battery topping the list, but that apart, this seems more like an upgraded iPhone 12 than a totally new device in its own right. While those using the iPhone 11 or its predecessors should definitely upgrade to the new iPhone in town

The Apple iPhone 13 is a decent upgrade over the iPhone 12, but nothing more than that. The improvements are generally small and incremental, and even the addition of sensor-shift stabilisation and Cinematic Mode aren’t that exciting in reality. That doesn’t make the iPhone 13 a bad phone; far from it. It’s an improvement over the iPhone 12 in many areas – and that’s saying something, as the 12 was, for me, the pick of the iPhones last year for value. This year, however, I’d recommend spending a bit more on the iPhone 13 Pro instead: it has all the tech of the iPhone 13 Pro Max in a more compact, more affordable package, not to mention a better set of cameras and superior battery life to the iPhone 13. No two ways about it, for £120 more the iPhone 13 Pro snatches the value crown in 2021.

Overall, despite its incredibly capable cameras, top-class performance, and favorable design, I simply don’t get why Apple hesitated to include a higher refresh rate screen here. Had that been the case, the iPhone 13 would have easily been my favorite iPhone of 2021. Therefore, you should only buy the iPhone 13 if it gets a price drop, which is quite likely—with the Black Friday and New Year’s sales right around the corner. So, watch out for that! And be sure to check out the iPhone 12 as well because it goes on insane sale from time to time as well.

The iPhone 13 and 13 Mini received a number of significant upgrades including new cameras, a bigger battery, more storage and a brighter screen. The iPhone 13 is a delightful upgrade to last year's already wonderful iPhone 12 family. Some will be disappointed because it's not radically different from previous models, but that's actually part of the charm. Familiarity has been one of the keys to Apple's success with the iPhone, and the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini are those same reliable friends that seemingly never change. The iPhone 13 starts at $829 (£779, AU$1,349) and the 13 Mini at $729 (£679, AU$1,199). That's for the base model, which comes with 128GB of storage. If you buy and activate your phone on a carrier plan, that price drops by $30, and that's before adding on the impressive deals from carriers. For all intents and purposes Apple launched two phones in 2021: The iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 Pro. If you want a small version of the iPhone 13, get an iPhone 13 Mini. If you need an iPhone 13 Pro with a bigger screen and battery, get the 13 Pro Max.

There is no denying that the iPhone 13 is a phenomenal handset and, if we take into account its £779 price tag, it may even be the best smartphone on offer right now. The only issue Apple might have is convincing people it's enough of an upgrade, because it is oh so similar to the iPhone 12. However, by improving the areas that appeal most to smartphone consumers, such as battery life and camera software, Apple might have given the 13 all it really needs. So forget the 12 because the iPhone 13 is a video powerhouse that's pulling some serious focus.

That said, if you're using the iPhone 12, you don't need to upgrade right now. While the iPhone 13 has faster hardware, takes better photos, and has a screen that gets brighter, these additions don't justify an upgrade. However, the one feature where you'll see an immediate difference is battery life. That's one area where all 2021 iPhones have a considerable lead over their predecessors, and if your current iPhone doesn't quite last all day and you're planning on switching, the iPhone 13 is an easy recommendation. Sure, the iPhone 13 doesn't have a new design, but it comes with the upgrades that actually matter. The screen is a little brighter, the camera is a lot better, and the battery lasts longer. If you switched to the iPhone 12 last year, it doesn't make much sense to get the iPhone 13 right now, but if you're on an older device, there is a lot to like here.

The iPhone 13 takes the best from the iPhone 12 and adds new and advanced features making it a very refined upgrade this year. The phone uses new camera sensors, a brighter display, faster than ever A15 Bionic chip and offers stellar improvements in battery life. The cameras take some brilliant pictures in daylight but leave you wanting for more when it comes to pictures taken at night. The Cinematic mode opens up new ways for you to make shallow depth-of-field videos and it will only get better at recognizing edges over time. At its asking price of Rs 79,900, the iPhone 13 is a no-brainer for someone who is looking to upgrade from the iPhone 11 or before. For people looking to upgrade their iPhone 12, the iPhone 13 is only but an incremental update and does not warrant a switch, especially since the iPhone 12 is now available at a lower price. If you are someone who’s looking to get into the Apple ecosystem, then too, the iPhone 13 is a very dependable starting point as it is packed with all the latest bells and whistles, save for some features like a high refresh rate screen.

For most, the iPhone 13 is the best choice among Apple’s new iPhone generation. You lose faster screen update and telephoto focal length compared to 13 Pro, but the rest is for all practical purposes just as good on an iPhone 13. Since most people share their photos on social media, it is greatly exaggerated how good image quality you actually need, because the compression on providers’ platforms robs your images of resolution, dynamics, and color depth. If, on the other hand, you print images in larger formats, you should go for one of the 13 Pro variants. This also applies to those who actively use the mobile as a camcorder and need ProRes for finishing. For pretty much everyone else, the iPhone 13 is the right choice.

The iPhone 13 has everything that you would want in a smartphone. It has an eye-catching design, excellent performance, battery life that will give you no reason to complain and consistent cameras. It’s hard to find a fault in the iPhone 13 except that the 60Hz refresh rate could’ve been added but Apple kept it for the more expensive Pro series. At Rs 79,900, the iPhone 13 is a must-have for anyone looking to upgrade from the iPhone 10 and above. For the iPhone 11 users, it makes a strong case to upgrade but not for those with iPhone 12. The iPhone 13 will be a chart-topper across the most popular smartphones in the world simply because it is the new iPhone that most people will buy and be content with.

If you want a deeper dive into iOS 15 and my experience with features like Focus mode, watch out my run-down of iOS 15's best features. I do want to mention that I used review phones that Apple lent me. During my five days, the iPhone 13 Pro Max powered off unexpectedly twice and the iPhone 13 Pro Max shut down once. I don't think this is a major issue or anything to be alarmed about, but I wanted to share my experience. In terms of the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini, it's been a good start but we have more in-depth testing to do with the batteries, durability and comparing its cameras against other phones. But right now, the iPhone 13 will be the reliable phone that most people will be more than happy to use for the next few years.

The most desirable iPhone from this year’s lineup is the iPhone 13 Pro, but the iPhone 13 offers an incredible amount, the extended battery life being our favourite 2021 feature. We do wish that the telephoto capability wasn’t just available on the Pro, but there has to be differentiation somewhere, of course. If you’ve got an iPhone 11 or older, you’ll really notice the difference if you buy this phone. The step-up is less high from the iPhone 12 and so if you’re on a budget, it’s a good idea to look at the iPhone 12 as well.

Comparing two generations of smartphones iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, I had both positive emotions from the new generation and neutral ones. Frankly speaking, I did not find a big and significant difference between the two versions of devices in the iPhone line. Therefore, from my point of view, I see no reason to switch to a new generation of smartphones. For example, the appearance, with the exception of the reduced bangs and the location of the camera sensors, remained absolutely the same. But some interesting colors have been added, such as blue and pink on the new generation iPhone 13. I can also highlight the increased capacity of the built-in battery by 15%. But the rest of the features remained almost the same. Yes, perhaps the manufacturer will talk about better performance, but in fact, even the performance of the iPhone 12 will be enough for most tasks for a few more years, that’s for sure. The same applies to cameras, as you could see from the examples of the pictures, I did not reveal a strong difference between the two versions of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 smartphones.

There's no doubt that the new iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini work smoothly. The iPhone 13 mini in particular could be a good upgrade if you're currently using an older iPhone and want to stick with something small. On the other hand, the iPhone 13 is more in line with the current market, and should be more versatile for a lot of people. The choice between the two sizes is primarily about convenience and ease of use (and your budget), but do consider that there's also a difference in battery life. These phones offer a lot of what you'd get with the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, at much lower prices. They're still very expensive though, and you don't get some of the nicest touches like the 120Hz screen. If you don't really need Cinema Mode or Photographic Styles, you might be perfectly happy. The iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max aren't officially available anymore but you can still find them on sale at prices that overlap the iPhone 13.

Apple’s new more efficient displays, larger batteries, as well as notably more efficient A15 chip represent a holy trifecta of hardware characteristic improvements that is extremely positive to the longevity of the new phones. The Apple iPhone 13 shares most specs, including the camera setup, with the smaller iPhone 13 mini. The main difference is the size of the Super Retina XDR display which measures 6.1 inches on the iPhone 13 and 5.4 on the mini. The device is powered by Apple’s own A15 chipset and available with up to 512GB of built-in storage. In the camera department, the iPhone 13 cannot offer a dedicated tele module but comes with several improvements over last year’s generation. The new primary module uses the same size sensor as last year’s top-of-the-line iPhone 12 Pro Max and there is now Dual-Pixel autofocus instead of PDAF. Light is channeled through an f/1.6-aperture lens and a sensor-shift stabilization system is keeping things steady. The primary module is accompanied by an ultra-wide camera that features the same tech specs as on the iPhone 12 generation.

The certainty and uncertainty abounding Apple’s September launches are constant. Nearly everyone knows that the new phone would look and feel like the older one — as they say, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it — still, there’s always the expectation that Apple might throw a surprise with a feature or two. This year’s Apple iPhone 13 launch has been no different. Apple was consistent with its design and presentation style, promising 20 per cent more something and 30 per cent higher another thing. Consumers demand a new model every year, and if a company were innovative every year, it would also be forever out of the market.

No, better get the iPhone 13 Pro instead. The marginal $100 difference, or even $70 if you buy the iPhone 13 unlocked, is well worth getting the higher iPhone 13 Pro display refresh rate, longer battery life, better main sensor, the ultrawide camera that doubles as a Macro model, and the true 3x optical vs the faux 2x digital zoom on the iPhone 13. Under the hood, the iPhone 13 Pro comes with record large pixels for unsurpassed low light shots, more memory, as well as an extra GPU core that really shows when you are shooting and refocusing in the new Cinematic mode option. These advantages, however, don't warrant a jump from the iOS ecosystem if you are already invested, just if you are considering swapping a lowly Android for Apple's latest but not greatest. The whole of our iPhone 13 review, however, points to the fact that the iPhone 13 purchase is not really worth it now that the Pro has a 120Hz display on top of all its other numerous advantages for just a Benjamin more.

The iPhone 13 starts at Rs 79,900 and for the price, brings a lot to the table including a gorgeous display, excellent performance, capable cameras and class-leading battery life. That said, the iPhone 12 is no slouch either and it is neck and neck to the newer model in most, if not all of the aforementioned parameters. What’s more, the iPhone 12 is heavily discounted right now owing to the ongoing Flipkart Big Billion Days sale. In fact, buyers can pick up a 128GB iPhone 12 for as little as Rs 57K, and that’s without slapping any additional bank offers. Consequently, if you were looking to get into the Apple ecosystem by purchasing a brand-new iPhone, I’d say your money would be better spent on the iPhone 12, at least during the sale period. Once the price bounces back to say, 71K (as listed on Apple’s website for the 128GB model), you’d be better off with the iPhone 13.

I think it’s all too easy to look at the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini and not think much of the updates this year. Cameras get better every year, and every company promises good battery life, after all. And compared to the massive changes we saw on the iPhone last year, the 13 looks iterative, more like an iPhone 12S than truly new models. I won’t pretend that reading is totally wrong, but I also think it misses the point. Fancy new features are fun, but the fundamentals of battery life and camera are more important. Because if you focus on the fundamentals, your whole game gets better. And the iPhone 13 has got some good game.

Especially in terms of color, the device has made big strides, but improvements were evident in every category except for touch. The color tone is better than before; the yellow cast, which could be a little distracting in previous iterations of the iPhone, has been toned down. At a time when every top Android flagship reaches or well surpasses the four-digit price range, the iPhone 13’s $799 starting price can be considered a very good value, especially since Apple has doubled the base storage this year to 128GB instead. Is the iPhone 13 worth the wait for older iPhone users? It is. However, while last year’s iPhone 12 kept close enough to the 12 Pro in features and power, this year’s iPhone 13 is clearly a level below the iPhone 13 Pro. It’s one thing to lose out on the zoom lens, but to also lose the macro lens, 120Hz refresh rate, and noticeably smaller image sensors? This makes the iPhone 13 not quite an Apple flagship. It’s an almost-flagship, the way the Galaxy S21 and Pixel 5 are almost-flagships to my (admittedly very nitpicky) eyes. The iPhone 13 Pro is the phone that truly shows off what Apple wanted to flex this year. But if you really cannot (or refuse to) pay more than $800, then the standard iPhone 13 is still a fine option. You’re still getting the best SoC and video capabilities in the smartphone space.

Love or hate Apple, the tech giant does know how to make a smartphone and the iPhone 13 is the latest in a very long line of excellent offerings. It’s not a massive leap on from the iPhone 12, but it does address areas that some will say needed attention – the camera quality and battery life, for example. Add to this a minor improvement in screen quality, one of the most musical performances you can get from a smartphone and an excellent user experience, and the iPhone 13 is undoubtedly worthy of five-star status.

The iPhone 13 keeps everything that was great about the iPhone 12, cuts £20 off the price, doubles the starting storage and adds two meaningful upgrades: longer battery life and a better camera. That makes it one of the best phones you can buy, particularly when you take into account that you can safely use it longer than any other smartphone with in excess of five years of software support provided by Apple, plus reasonable and accessible battery replacement options. It is not perfect – it lacks a telephoto camera and the screen is slower than rivals. It is not worth the upgrade for anyone with a recent smartphone. But for those looking to replace a three or four-year-old phone, the iPhone 13 should be very near the top of your hitlist.

Apple rarely makes big changes to their phones and it’s no different this year. The design is the same and while there are a couple of significant improvements and interesting new features, these new phones are fundamentally iterative updates of last year’s phones. But that’s just the way smartphones are. As I said before, gone are the days when you see huge leaps in performance and features year-on-year. Ultimately, this year’s phones build on the strengths of last year and rectifies some of their weaknesses. They look and feel expensive, performance is peerless, the displays are better, the cameras take nicer photos, and battery life is even longer. These are just very solid well rounded phones that are capable of doing many things very well. Those who decide to splash the cash will be very happy with their purchase. At the end of the day, the question isn’t, “Should I upgrade?” Instead, you should be asking, “Who are these upgrades for?” If you own the iPhone 12, but you’d love to have two extra hours of battery life, then yes, you should consider upgrading. However, if you’re already content with your phone’s runtime and cameras, and Cinematic Mode doesn’t “butter your biscuit,” then an iPhone 13 upgrade would merely serve as a nice-to-have — not a must-have. As for me, I’m already looking forward to the iPhone 14. Perhaps the next-gen iPhone will have a greater generational leap and bring about more significant, worthwhile upgrades for the average consumer.

There's a lot to like here - the noticeably improved camera, the longer battery life - and it's hard to find anything substantial to complain about. We're probably just spoiled after last year's cavalcade of goodies. Our biggest criticism is therefore really the name, and it's not because we're superstitious. Under the old naming scheme, this would have been a solid iPhone 12s.

The Apple iPhone 13 is a very capable smartphone - it has one of the fastest chipsets and one of the best camera kits - that's why it is ideal for photography and video capturing on the go, great for bloggers and vloggers on a budget. It also does a brilliant job at streaming your favorite shows and playing demanding games. Its speakers are surprisingly nice, too. The iPhone 13 is not a perfect smartphone - the notch is still huge as Apple doesn't want to resurrect the Touch ID yet, the 120Hz display is exclusive to the more expensive Pro model, and it just won't allow for faster than 25W charging, though the last one could be somewhat responsible for the longer battery lifespan of the iPhones. There are also controversial aspects that will never change - the aim towards a port-less phone, the minimalistic retail bundle that reduces electronic waste, the iOS-specific file manager, among other controversial Apple policies.

The camera is the best at this price point; the display is great for HDR video, and I still absolutely love this design with its flat edges and smooth sides. The slightly smaller notch and the extra hit of brightness for outdoor viewing are welcome, too, although neither is particularly standout. If you upgraded to the iPhone 12 last year and don’t have a yearly upgrade option then you’re not missing too much. The prospect of a ProMotion display and possible hole-punch camera cutout coming next year with the iPhone 14 should end up being more tempting.

The iPhone 13 is the new iPhone that Apple expects most people to buy, and it’s easy to see why. It has most of what makes the premium 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max great, including the blazing-fast A15 Bionic processor, an ultrawide camera, and a battery that easily provides than a full day of usage before you need to recharge. If you’re a true power user, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will beat out the iPhone 13 with their 120Hz ProMotion screens, additional telephoto lens, and generally superior lowlight performance. But you’ll also pay a premium over the base iPhone 13, and let’s face it: The average person isn’t going to split hairs over 60Hz and adaptive 120Hz. The iPhone 13, together with its pint-sized sibling, the iPhone 13 Mini, gets the job done and gets it done well. Yes. If you like the price, size, and extra battery life, the iPhone 13 offers plenty of value, even if it isn’t the most premium option in the lineup.

Clearly, high among the appealing factors of the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini is the pricing: these are both considerably cheaper than Apple’s “Pro” phones. Your money gets you a near-identical iOS 15 experience, dependable cameras, and a welcome improvement in battery life. Apple still may not include a charger in the box, but double the base iPhone storage is a great consolation. All the same, I find myself thinking that for many – certainly those who want to see the bulk of Apple’s 2021 refinements – the iPhone 13 Pro would be a sensible upgrade. Yes, at $999 it’s $200 more than the iPhone 13, but the beautiful ProMotion display and significant uptick in photographic capabilities are stars of the show here. They’re things you just plain miss out on with Apple’s cheaper devices. Like last year, the iPhone 13 is probably the right pick for most people. Unlike last year, the iPhone 13 mini doesn’t make too many compromises to recommend it to only those seriously devoted to smaller phones.

The iPhone 13 is a refinement, not a revolution. Compared side by side with the iPhone 12, it's not going to shock you with anything other than stellar battery life. That said, the additional juice is absolutely worth the $100 premium over the still-on-sale iPhone 12 or the iPhone 13 mini, making the standard iPhone 13 our Editors' Choice winner. It's about having less stress, and in 2021, nobody needs more stress. The iPhone 13 Pro Max, meanwhile, should be the choice for professional and wannabe-pro content creators who rely on iPhones to add beauty and entertainment to the world. Its additional zoom lens, big screen for viewing and editing content, and nearly immortal battery life makes it a true "pro" content creation studio. So this year, go big. You won't regret it.

I spent five days testing all four phones and decided to share my results in two reviews. This one covers the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini; I wrote a separate one on the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max. You can also compare all four iPhone 13 models here.

You may look at iPhone 13 and think this is a not a huge upgrade on the iPhone 12. That's somewhat true. Honestly, you shouldn't even expect ground-breaking tech in every 12 months. Most fancy features introduced in a small cycle end up being useless and are often phased out. At the end of the day, any smartphone is defined by its reliability, longevity and utility. The iPhone 13 ticks all boxes. You get improved performance, better battery life and upgraded cameras -- at the same price at last year's iPhone 12 (which by the way came with 64GB of storage on the base variant). The fact is iPhone 13 doesn't even compete with iPhone 12 and as I said before, anyone on last year's model should ideally skip it. But, for anyone on a two- to three-year-old iPhone, the iPhone 13 is a massive upgrade in all departments and most importantly, it's still available at a starting price of Rs 80,000.

The iPhone 13 isn’t a game changer for Apple’s series of smartphones, but it’s an important iteration that offers better battery life, a better processor and an upgraded camera setup than iPhones that have gone before it. If you’re looking for a fast and capable smartphone, and don’t need the extra features of the pricier Pro model, this is a top choice.

It was only 11 months ago when Apple released the iPhone 12 but here we are already with the iPhone 13 and there have been some impressive improvements and upgrades. And it’s the same line-up with the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 pro and iPhone 13 pro Max with screen sizes at 5.4 inches, 6.1 inches, 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches respectively. And like the iPhone 12, the iPhone 13 is also 5G compatible with networks now within reach of even more customers. iPhone 13 also comes preloaded with Apple’s latest iOS 15 which also brings with it several new features and enhancements.

Anyone who’s been waiting years to upgrade an iPhone XR or perhaps something older will be pleased with the 6.1-inch iPhone 13. You’ll get a faster device with a better camera and much longer battery life. Even iPhone 12 owners will see a few improvements. Just not enough to justify replacing a practically new handset. Those looking for an upgrade for the iPhone 11, XS or 8 need search no farther than the 6.1-inch iPhone 13. Apple’s latest mid-size handset offers far better performance than those older models, a noticeably longer battery life and a better camera. Plus there are some other nice additions, like a smaller notch.

The sum of the iPhone 13’s updates and improvements over the iPhone 12 do add up and the result is a much-improved handset. Just about every element of this phone has had a tweak in one way or another, making it all the better. And that you also get double the amount of storage on the base model and it more than justifies the $100/£100 price difference. Everything the iPhone 13 does, it does well. It’s a solid reliable smartphone with some clever photo and video features that comes in at a price point that is competitive. For those that want the very best, the iPhone 13 Pro range has that under control. For everyone else, the iPhone 13 is the phone to buy.

You do get the same headlining new camera features as with the Pro models – Cinematic Mode, which automatically adjusts focus between subjects in a frame, and Photographic Styles, which lets you customise the tone and character of photos you take before they are rendered. What's also worth noting is that sensor-shift stabilisation, previously exclusive to the iPhone 12 Pro Max, is not standard across all four models. However, you don't get the Pros' 3X telephoto cameras, or the ability to take macro stills and videos. The wide and ultra-wide cameras are also not the same as those on the Pro models, and have slightly weaker specifications. It will be interesting to see whether the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini offer enough to set them apart from the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini, respectively, which remain on sale at lower prices and benefit from the new iOS 15 release. That's what we'll aim to decide in our full review, which is coming up very soon.

The fact that the smartphone has plateaued is not a bad thing. It means you can enjoy the one you have for years to come without missing out on anything major. And when it feels right to upgrade, you are in for a piece of mature technology that is incrementally — though not dramatically — better.

The iPhone 13 will be a strong upgrade for anyone who decided against switching phones for a number of years. The camera is looking very much like it’ll be the best at this price point while the display is now much easier to read in bright sunlight. It could be the improvements to the battery life that stand out most though.

I’d recommend upgrading to the iPhone 13 for its camera setup alone. The power and battery life increases are also significant and well worth considering, even if you are an iPhone 12 user. The same goes for the new product’s more futureproof 5G network connectivity. I applaud Apple for equipping the $799 entry-level iPhone 13 with 128GB of memory, which will be plenty sufficient for all but the most avid video enthusiasts. Those can double the storage to 256GB for another $100, or opt for a top-spec 512GB iPhone 13 version for $1,099.

Assuming you’re starting with a good foundation, I think the list of what really makes a big difference in phone upgrades is actually short. The first thing on the list is improved battery life. The second is an improved camera. Those are the two things that make a fundamental difference in your day-to-day experience of a smartphone (assuming, again, that the basics don’t stink). Those are also exactly the things Apple tried to make better in the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini. Those two improvements come on top of the major changes the company introduced last year with the iPhone 12. If you already have an iPhone 12, this year’s update looks iterative because it is. If you have an older iPhone, the full list of what’s better on the iPhone 13 is almost too long to enumerate. The iPhone 12 brought new technologies and a fancy new design (and a new, Mini-sized version). The iPhone 13’s battery and camera updates aren’t so flashy, but they’re more important.

Because I am a tech enthusiast lucky enough to test all the latest Android flagships, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini’s dual-camera system doesn’t have the versatility for me. But for other less demanding users, the iPhone 13/ 13 Mini cameras represent a noticeable upgrade over last year’s cameras: the main camera image sensor is larger, it gained the sensor-shift technology only available to the Pro Max model last year, and I love cinematic mode. The iPhone 13 Mini, in particular, is about the only small flagship phone in town, so if you really hate the size of modern flagships, this is the phone to get.

This is a difficult question to answer, similar to the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. While the iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13 are indeed upgrades over last year's iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12, the improvements are marginal. Whether the iPhone 13 mini or iPhone 13 is a worthwhile purchase for you will come down to what iPhone you're currently using. If you already have an iPhone 12, it might be worth sitting this year out. However, if you're using an earlier iPhone, like an iPhone X or an iPhone 11, then the iPhone 13 is a solid offering.

I only wished they got rid of that cursed Lightning port.

The Apple iPhone 13 phone has flaws, which from the tech enthusiast’s point of view cannot overlook, but at the same time, the remarkable features overshadow the drawbacks and shortcomings. This phone is a real visual treat, and the screen looks beautiful without general features. The company also fills in the neglected gaps and brings better specifications. If you’re looking for a premium phone, the Apple iPhone 13 is the most fantastic option you can choose. But if you’re bored with Apple’s ecosystem and want to try something interesting, the ZTE nubia Red Magic 6s Pro is a great deal on the mainline at the same price point.

But that practice has been at the center of legal and regulatory challenges in recent years. Last week, a federal judge ordered Apple to let app developers direct customers to other payment methods in their apps, which could enable them to avoid Apple’s commission. Regulators in the United States, Europe and India are also investigating Apple’s App Store practices.
