I’m feeling really conflicted about this iPhone 15 Pro Max. On the one hand, you have to admire Apple’s ambition. Yes, it still looks like every other Pro iPhone, but there are a lot of new ideas here. New materials, a whole new chip, and lots of new ways of thinking about the iPhone as a smart phone. And when it works, it really works. The A17 Pro chip is really, really powerful, and you can actually feel it. The main camera is fantastic. The Action button is cool. And the USB-C port actually opens up new ways to use your iPhone, in ways we never thought possible. But the 15 Pro Max also has a lot of problems. It still overheats. The battery life isn’t as good as it was before. And it’s still quite buggy sometimes. In trying to chase all-out performance, Apple seems to have forgotten what makes the iPhone, an iPhone. An iPhone is supposed to just work.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max is a powerful flagship phone that delivers upgrade-worthy features, including a lighter and more compact titanium design, a bigger 5x zoom and a useful Action button. The A17 Pro chip is the fastest around and enables console-quality gameplay, while the battery lasts an epic 14 hours. Our only complaints are slow charging via USB-C and a not-quite-great digital zoom.

While there will be little surprise that the iPhone 15 Pro Max improves on its previous version, I believe this model offers a significant step forward for most users. The lighter titanium build is a big step for the iPhone and makes this model feel different in the hand. The camera system hits new heights with the rear three-camera array, offering exceptional quality at a wide range of focal lengths. For anyone looking for a longer zoom, the benefits the 15 Pro Max offers even over the 15 Pro are clear. Arguably the biggest step forward here is the A17 Pro 3nm chip, which delivers performance beyond that of a phone. The capabilities of this phone thanks to that chip extend into professional video, photography and gaming, with the potential to excel wherever it turns its gaze.

From a photographic point of view, there’s little to argue with Apple’s claims that the iPhone 15 Pro Max is the best iPhone yet. I wasn’t really expecting much else – the company is hardly going to make a phone which is worse than the previous generation. However, speaking of the previous generation, the upgrades here are relatively gentle. Whether you want them or not likely comes down to personal preferences and tastes, and what exactly you’re willing to pay for. In terms of image quality, the differences between the iPhone 15 Pro Max and last year’s iPhone 14 Pro are relatively minimal. You get an upgrade in terms of maximum zoom length, so if you’re regularly frustrated by not being able to get close enough, that alone could be enough to convince you to buy one.

The new Apple iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max phones brings a plethora of new features and capabilities that this new generation of iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max a worthy successor to the previous models. Every core component has been made better, and that vastly improves the user experience. The inclusion of Titanium, a better camera, and the new and improved chipset dramatically improved its value proposition and it’s all available at the same price tag as the previous model. So, if you have been looking for the best iPhone ever and want to upgrade from an older phone, the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max are both excellent choices. However, they are not the only smartphone makers in the world. The smartphone industry is highly competitive and smartphones like Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra can be a worthy alternative to this model.

The Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max display performance stood out in the video, color, and touch categories. The device’s readability was above average, held back due to low brightness in low light and a strong drop in luminance when outdoors. The Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max was readable in most conditions, including outdoors, with an impressive 2260 nits measured on a 20% average picture level (APL) white pattern. However, brightness dropped drastically at higher APLs, reaching only 1100 nits at 80% APL (similar to web page APL), meaning the device is more suited for viewing photos than web pages outdoors. Further, the 15 Pro Max is still tuned for only 2 nits in low-light conditions; although this is suitable for a middle-of-the-night kind of environment, users may need to manually adjust the brightness in other conditions.

In virtually every respect, the iPhone 15 Pro Max raises the bar not only for the iPhone family but for smartphones in general. From the new materials to some of the best smartphone cameras we've ever used, Apple's big flagship ticks box after box. It falls marginally short of perfection thanks to a slightly higher price tag than the last model, the lack of true fast charging, and Apple's frustrating insistence on presenting 5x optical zoom as the apex of smartphone telephoto technology. Still, these end up being minor quibbles that don't detract meaningfully from what is a broadly exceptional iPhone experience.

So how about in comparison to Android phones? Well, the Samsung S23 Ultra still is better overall – in terms of the camera at least. With the Samsung, you get four lenses, more reach and a more comprehensive native shooting app. If you’re operating system agnostic, then the Samsung is definitely the one to go for – but there will of course be plenty of people who are loyal to iPhone and feel as if no other brand exists. Overall, yes, Apple has produced the best iPhone ever. It’ll certainly make it on to our list of the best smartphones for photographers – and I’d probably put it up there in the top two or three. Will you be buying one?

The iPhone 15 Pro Max is an exceptional smartphone. It does a lot and puts a lot of pressure on Samsung, Oppo and Xiaomi to make vast upgrades over the next 12 months. Importantly, Apple has fixed the number of issues I had with the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The weight has been drastically reduced, the sides rounded for a comfier feel and the defunct Lightning port replaced with a much more modern alternative. Then there are the smaller changes like the matte sides repelling fingerprints and the bezel being reduced. It would have been nice if the charging had been faster and a higher-specced USB-C had been included in the box. The price has also jumped up, by process of the base 128GB model saying bye-bye. Look at the 256GB models though and the UK price has actually slightly dropped over last year. It’s not a complete reinvention of the series and those who upgraded to the 14 Pro (or even 13 Pro) shouldn’t feel the need to rush out to upgrade. Those phones remain excellent, and the slew of features in iOS 17 only make them better.

In almost every way, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is better than its predecessor. It’s a little lighter, a little faster, a little more convenient, has a little bit better camera, and has the same battery life. And yet, the improvements are rather boring. USB-C is finally here and if it wasn’t years late that might be exciting. The lighter titanium frame only brings Apple in light with the weight of its competitors. The 5x optical zoom is fun and can be useful, but it’s no game-changer. Shooting video in the Log color space is an awesome pro feature hamstrung by requiring you to shoot ProRes and the lack of any LUT application in playback. The best new feature is the Action Button, which should really be on every iPhone and not relegated to £1,000/$1,000+ models, but even that just saves a tap or two. Perhaps this is just where smartphones are now; modest yearly improvements are appreciated, but hardly a reason to upgrade. Like laptops and desktops, the technology is at a plateau.

It may not seem like it, but the iPhone 15 Pro Max has a ton of upgrades and quality-of-life improvements that make it a much better phone. The biggest change is the switch to USB-C; Apple hasn't hobbled the connector in any way, and that means all your favorite USB-C accessories now work just as well on the iPhone. The switch to titanium means it is lighter and easier to hold, and the new Action Button unlocks a lot of customizability. Reviewing Apple's iPhone 15 Pro Max, two months after my unboxing to see if those iOS 17 updates have improved the experience. Good news: the iPhone 15 Pro Max is now usable as a smartphone! As long as you don't travel, that is. The heating issues I first experienced have apparently been solved, as my review handset no longer heats up when I get it to do anything. Likewise, Apple has sorted the iPhone 15 Pro Max's dire battery life, so it can now survive a full day. Performance is good enough for gaming on anything on the App Store, although there's still few dedicated tools for gamers. So overall, this is now the best Apple phone as we head into 2024. That said, the iPhone 15 Pro Max offers very few upgrades vs last year's mobile, besides the shortcut button and Type C USB port.

Apple has made almost zero concessions on its iPhone 15 Pro Max. A year ago, if I had to name the smartphone(s) I was considering buying with my money, I would have opted for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 or the Galaxy S22 Ultra. But my buying criteria have evolved quite a bit. I attach much more importance to durability. From a financial point of view, don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to be a moralist. My carbon footprint could be drastically reduced. I've flown to work four times this year, and I still sometimes throw a packet of potato chips in the garbage instead of plastic. And my vials of electronic cigarette liquid are an absolute ecological disaster. No, when I talk about a sustainable smartphone, I'm talking about a smartphone that you can keep for a long time, not only because it will remain functional and efficient, but also because it will retain its value over the long term.

With iPhone prices going higher with every passing year and Apple introducing a new tier in its ‘Pro' segment this year, the iPhone sure seems to be losing points when it comes to overall value. This also means that the best possible iPhone experience gets pushed further out of reach for many this year. However, keeping in mind all the meaningful upgrades we have seen with its lighter design, improved primary camera, impressive telephoto camera and sheer raw performance with its brand-new processor, it's hard to argue that the new iPhone 15 Pro Max isn't worth upgrading to despite its higher sticker price, even if you own last year's iPhone 14 Pro. Unlike previous models, Apple's pitch for the iPhone Pro has also changed this year. It is no longer meant for the “Pros” or for videographers who simply prefer the best possible imaging quality from mobile phones.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max marks an important history for Apple. This was the generation that was forced upon Apple. The introduction of Type-C might hurt Apple’s banks a bit, but it will open up opportunities too. Most people I know hesitate to get iPhone only because of its prices. Now that storage becomes less of a problem, you no longer have the necessity for a larger storage. You don’t want to deal with the hassle? Then pay RM8,499 instead for the sake of convenience. I think it’s fair that way.

Okay, so that was all for my full one-month review of the new iPhone 15 Pro Max! And what I can tell is this is obviously the best iPhone ever made and arguably the best smartphone on the market right now. The 5x portrait camera, USB-C port, and console-level graphics are great to have, but they won’t offer you a whole new experience! So, you should wait for next year’s iPhone 16 Pro Max instead — or whatever it ends up being called — where Apple might bring a more robust, shatter-proof design, make full use of the hardware by striking a deal with other gaming studios to bring more AAA games. And maybe they will also bring an even better zoom camera that matches the S23 Ultra, who knows? The new iPhone 15 Pro Max brings brings a bunch of upgrades, from the titanium frames, a 5x telephoto camera that's a perfect companion for street photography, to the USB-C port. And overall — although it sounds cliche — this is once again one of the best smartphones you can buy right now.

Assuming that the iPhone 15 Pro Max lacks innovation, or is just an iterative upgrade would be a mistake. There are many subtle upgrades, all of which add up to make something special. The iPhone 15 Pro Max introduces a robust yet lightweight titanium design, making a significant impact on everyday use. It also smartly replaces the ringer switch with the Action button, which adds convenience. However, given the price of the device, we cannot say that the device is for everyone. This one is strictly for the pros — the flagship truly deserves the moniker Pro. If you’re someone who shoots a lot of videos, an influencer or a video content creator, or simply want the best performance that a smartphone can provide, then the iPhone 15 Pro Max is for you. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is the standout phone of 2023. The way it looks, the way it performs, the way it broadly clicks images give you a proper iPhone experience. The use of titanium and the big camera improvements ensure that this will be the most popular iPhone. The only thing that goes against the iPhone 15 Pro Max is the massive price tag it brings along. Starting at Rs 1.59 lakh, this is one of the most expensive smartphones money can buy. Using it is an excellent experience and you can sense why it is so much in demand. Apple knows how to deliver a flagship experience and the iPhone 15 Pro Max is its poster child. The thing, however, is that Apple’s proper flagship experience costs a lot. If you’re willing to splash that kind of cash — and you will be surprised that many are — then trust us, it will be a memorable experience and one that will last for a good many years to come.

Rs 1,59,900 for the base 256GB model, going all the way up to a heart-stopping Rs 1,99,900 for the 1TB variant, the iPhone 15 Pro Max goes after your bank balance with a vengeance. The 1TB model in fact, could possibly be the priciest smartphone in the country yet. There are niggles and small issues too. And while it finally boasts a Type-C port, some aspects like battery charging speeds still leave a bit to be desired. As far as competition is concerned, the Pixel 8 Pro (review) and the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra (review) come to mind, and the latter can still hold its own after so many months as the most well-rounded Android flagship if that’s the way you swing. The Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max delivered outstanding results in the DXOMARK Selfie tests, earning itself the top spot in our smartphone front camera ranking. The new device uses a similar front camera hardware as the previous iPhone 14 generation but still showed notable advancements in both photo and video, thanks to improvements in the software. The iPhone 15 Pro Max performed particularly well and was the best device tested to date in video mode. This was mainly due to impressive improvements in exposure and noise management. The iPhone 15 Pro Max did not quite take the top spot for still imaging. However, it showed notable advancements over its predecessor and particularly excelled in terms of exposure, color and bokeh, delivering the best results to date in these categories. Overall, the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max is an obvious choice for smartphone users who prioritize creating high-quality image and video content using the front camera.

Without a doubt the iPhone 15 Pro Max is the best iPhone Apple has ever made. It’s got powerful new feature like the A17 Pro chip, which powers console-like gaming. Its new titanium design is not only visually striking, but makes the phone noticeably lighter and, due to its slightly curved edges, easier to hold. The new Action Button lets you customize the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s hardware buttons like never before. And USB-C and that terrific 5x zoom lens are the best additions to the iPhone series in years. Bottom line: If you want the best camera system possible on the iPhone, you must get the iPhone 15 Pro Max. And if you’re considering whether it’s time to upgrade your older iPhone Pro Max, those who own the iPhone 12 Pro Max and earlier should strongly consider doing so. Even if you own the iPhone 13 Pro Max, the feature enhancements of the iPhone 15 Pro Max are so great that upgrading deserves serious consideration.

Apple has done it again: subtle tweaks to picture and sound quality have added dynamism and refinement to a delivery that was already superb. If you care about portable movie and music quality, there’s simply no better phone out there. For us, the fact that it’s gorgeous, supremely powerful and has an incredibly good camera is just icing on a tasty AV cake.

Our initial impression that the iPhone 15 Pro Max had only isolated improvements has been replaced by a feeling of satisfaction. It turns out that all the little things add up to a great experience. We like the lighter design and everyday conveniences like the quick button, not having to look for a Lightning cable when charging and the fact that battery life is back to a comfortable level. We’re also impressed with the increased performance and the new telephoto camera. After last year’s disappointment, the Pro Max is back in the game!

Even though, on the surface, there don’t seem to be many massive upgrades, the iPhone 15 Pro Max offers multiple compelling quality-of-life improvements. The design is much improved, introducing new colors and the feel of the titanium and contoured edges. It adds a 5x telephoto option to one of the best smartphone camera systems on the market, and it finally brings USB-C, eliminating a barrier for Android users to switch over and making charging simpler for people who own multiple devices. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is a great buy if you are due for an upgrade.

Let me be straight with ya: there are fifteen other devices on my desk that excite me more than Apple’s latest silver slab. That's because I chose a business that satisfies my predilection for novelty – and folding phones, retro recorders, and laptops that unfold into mobile workstations are much better at stoking that fire than predictable, pragmatic progression. But that same safe iteration is what’s made the iPhone the Must-Have Device for most folks in the US who aren’t like me – normal folks who see their phone as an un-sexy necessity, like a toaster oven.

The 15 Pro Max is Apple’s best big phone yet, offering more camera, more screen and longer battery life than other models. But it is the new titanium sides and decrease in weight that makes the biggest difference in day-to-day usage. The camera is genuinely great, with the new 5x optical zoom, which meaningfully closes the distance to objects, and the automatic portrait mode that makes fancy shots super simple. The screen is tremendous. The action button is handy. The USB-C port is very welcome, as is long battery life, fast chip and the larger 256GB of storage as standard. But it is still very much a superphone. Massive, colossally expensive and facing stiff competition with even greater zooms and more features. For iPhone buyers the 15 Pro Max is undoubtedly the pinnacle, if you have the hands and wallet capable of handling it.

At the end of the day, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is another upgrade cycle in the tick tock style (not to be confused with TikTok). And while it's not huge if you are coming from an iPhone 14 Pro Max, it is very noticeable if you are on an older model. It does feel a bit stingy that a $1,200 model still comes with 256 GB, especially since Apple markets this phone as a pro videographer tool. And the fact that it doesn't, at the very least, come with a nice USB 3 cable in the box is slightly controversial (par for the course with Apple phones, really). But we can't deny that it's an excellent piece of kit — as a phone, as an entertainment device, as a camera. Keep an eye out for those A17 Pro overheating news, but if all is smoothed out — this phone is a definite buy. iPhones are predictably solid, but this year Apple has pushed the boundaries with the lighter weight, the big camera upgrades, and the new USB-C port. But has the company done enough to convince you to buy it? Let us know in the comments!

Sure, you could make the case that they don’t break new ground and that they are playing catch-up in some ways, but it’s also hard to deny that they are highly capable and do very little wrong. I know I say this every year: anyone who buys these phones will be very happy with their purchase. But I also think that this statement is a little more true this year than the last.

Google's Pixel 8 Pro & regular flagship and Apple's iPhone 15 Pro Max are the subject of this week's TSW, as my review woes continue. Here's a quick summary of Google's big Pixel 8 series announcements ahead of my unboxing, and how the battery life, heating etc on the iPhone 15 Pro Max has been in a second full week. Spoiler alert: the bloody thing's going out the window. The Pixel 8 Pro delivers a few hardware upgrades vs last year's 7, including some camera updates, an LTPO screen and that Tensor 3 chipset. Likewise, the regular Pixel 8 has a 120Hz display, upgraded lenses and hopefully a boost to gaming performance and battery life. However, most of Google's changes are AI-led, with the majority again focused on the camera experience. Here's hoping Tensor 3 doesn't heat up like the A17 Pro, which turns the iPhone 15 Pro Max into a pocket-sized pizza oven at times. Battery life is still crap, a fortnight later - frankly, the Pixel 8 Pro would have to be awful to put in a worse performance.

Price is a crucial consideration for many when choosing a smartphone. This year, Apple has made a subtle but impactful change in pricing. While the price difference between the Pro and Pro Max remains the same, Apple has discontinued the 128GB model for the Pro Max. As a result, the entry-level iPhone 15 Pro Max now starts at $1,199 for the 256GB model, while the entry-level iPhone 15 Pro comes in at $999 for the 128GB model. This $200 price gap might influence the decision of budget-conscious consumers. In conclusion, your choice between the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the iPhone 15 Pro should align with your personal priorities and preferences. If you prioritize a larger screen, longer battery life, and enhanced camera capabilities for your creative endeavors, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is an excellent choice.

So, yeah — the iPhone 15 Pro Max is pretty great. It’s no secret these days that the new iPhone is probably going to be a damn good smartphone, and that hasn’t changed with this latest generation. But as I mentioned at the beginning of this review, the changes that Apple made this year are pretty important. The new titanium design is exquisite. It looks stunning and feels absolutely lovely. The better in-hand feel also makes it a lot more accessible to anyone who was previously put off by the Pro Max’s size problem. Combine that with the convenience that comes with the USB-C port, the added flexibility of the 5x telephoto camera, and everything else that’s great about the phone, and it’s a seriously impressive package.

This is the best iPhone Apple’s ever made. The camera revisions are great. USB-C was long overdue but is fantastic now it’s here. The Action button is useful. And all this builds on already top-notch components like the display, speakers and app ecosystem. There are drawbacks. I fear Apple will trip over its own shoes regarding gaming. And you might argue too much change in iPhone is iterative rather than revolutionary. Although the last of those complaints usually comes from tech journos jaded by dozens of phones flying past their noses every week. Most normal people don’t think like that. So should you buy one? Not if you’ve last year’s Pro Max. The differences aren’t big enough, unless you are a very keen photographer, desperate for USB-C, or have a fetish for chamfered edges. Everyone else? If you can afford it, and if you want the best Apple has to offer, the iPhone 15 Pro Max really is the best.

Of course, the new USB-C charging port also gives a good reason to upgrade to this model – finally unifying all of your device charging with a single lead. The fact that this is not the biggest reason to upgrade just shows how far the phone has come.

Making informed decisions about smartphone upgrades can be challenging. The iPhone 15 series, like any other smartphone, has its strengths and weaknesses. It’s imperative to differentiate between valid criticisms and unwarranted hysteria. While Apple is not infallible and has its share of shortcomings, it’s equally important to recognize that every smartphone has imperfections. The iPhone 15 series represents Apple’s commitment to refinement, offering improvements over its predecessors while staying true to its design language. Ultimately, whether you choose to upgrade or stick with your current device, the decision should align with your personal preferences, needs, and your place within the Apple ecosystem. While skepticism is a valuable tool in navigating the tech landscape, it’s equally vital not to get swayed by sensationalized narratives. The iPhone 15 series may not be perfect, but it undoubtedly has its merits and deserves a fair assessment.

Between the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, the choice is perhaps trickier, particularly for photography enthusiasts because of that 5x telephoto. After mulling over this for days, I think it boils down to how often you felt you couldn’t get close enough to your subject. If you frequently wished that the 3x optical zoom cameras of older iPhones weren’t enough, it makes sense to get the iPhone 15 Pro Max. If you don't care for the telephoto camera, then it’s a simple matter of deciding whether you want a phone with a bigger screen and if you can stomach the higher starting price. Regardless of which phone you pick, these are very solid phones. Sure, you could make the case that they don’t break new ground and that they are playing catch-up in some ways, but it’s also hard to deny that they are highly capable and do very little wrong.

So, is upgrading to the iPhone 15 Pro Max worth it? The answer depends on your specific needs and preferences. If you’re currently using the iPhone 13 Pro Max, the jump to the 15 Pro Max may not be a critical necessity. Both models share many similarities, including the ProMotion display, exceptional camera performance in well-lit conditions, and outstanding overall performance. The differences between the two are noticeable but relatively incremental. Key factors that might influence your decision are the enhanced camera capabilities of the 15 Pro Max, especially in low-light scenarios, and the slightly lighter build. For those who own the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the decision is a bit more nuanced. While the iPhone 15 Pro Max introduces several improvements, including the dynamic island design, better low-light photography, and a 5x optical zoom, the differences may not be dramatic enough to warrant an immediate upgrade.

I've also compared Apple's massive pricey slab to Samsung's Galaxy S23 Ultra in yesterday's video, including a camera test. So check that out to see how that fresh zoom lens stacks up to the best flagship phone of 2023. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is the only new Apple smartphone that seems worthy of the upgrade. It’s hard to be ultra critical of the iPhone 15 Pro Max because it is such a good overall package. It is lighter and sleeker than its predecessor. It has the same long battery life and it’s faster, too, albeit with some caveats. The camera is also better– if you can see yourself using the extra reach of that telephoto lens often enough. It may not be a big enough upgrade to warrant an update from a 14 Pro Max or even an iPhone 13 Pro Max but, combined with a price freeze and a doubling of storage on the base model this year, the iPhone 15 Pro Max feels like a solid improvement. It remains the best smartphone Apple makes for another year running.

With a DXOMARK Audio score of 143, the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max delivered an excellent performance that was very similar to what we saw on its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Playback quality through the built-in speakers was consistently great across all sub-tests. The timbre was very nice and offered a deep low-end extension. The iPhone achieved great results for the Dynamics attribute as well and the device was capable of creating a nice stereo sound scene with good localizability of individual sound sources. On the downside, our experts noticed some distortion and compression at the maximum volume setting when watching movies and, as with all iPhones to date, the stereo channels are inverted in the music app. Overall the iPhone 15 Pro Max performed best when listening to music and playing games. The best new feature is the Action Button, which should really be on every iPhone and not relegated to $1,000+ models, but even that just saves a tap or two. Perhaps this is just where smartphones are now; modest yearly improvements are appreciated, but hardly a reason to upgrade. Like laptops and desktops, the technology is at a plateau.

In my mind there is no doubt about the goodness that iPhone 15 Pro brings to consumers. It is, easily, the best phone to buy in India right now. It has its issues but then all phones have their issues. On the whole, the iPhone 15 Pro is the best one can get, even if it is pricey. So, who should get it? Well, if you are buying your first smartphone (seriously?) and want something that is the best - money no bar - get the iPhone 15 Pro. Although I will say that on the whole, the "non-pro" iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus this year offer great value for money. But if you are upgrading, the situation is different. Despite seemingly big changes, I feel the iPhone 15 Pro is an incremental update. If you already have iPhone 13 Pro or the iPhone 14 Pro, you should skip this year. But if you are still on the iPhone 12 or an older phone, go for the iPhone 15 Pro. Compared to your old phone, the iPhone 15 Pro will feel like a device from the future.

Notably excelling in portrait photography and videography, the iPhone 15 Pro Max captured intricate detail and rendered skin tones beautifully. While its camera specifications may not look as cutting-edge on paper compared to some competitors, Apple’s engineers have managed to make improvements where it counts. The Quad-Bayer image sensor, like in last year’s iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, enhances image quality and enables seamless zooming to 2x. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is expensive, there's no denying that. What feels notable about this generation of Apple's smartphone, however, is that the distinction in capabilities between the different iPhone price points is far clearer. The gap between the regular iPhone and its Pro counterparts has never felt so broad; doubling down on that, the differences between the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max mean it's no longer just a matter of deciding "bigger screen or smaller?" Much in the same way, comparing the iPhone 15 Pro Max's additions to similar features on rival smartphones feels like it misses the point. Have Android handsets from Samsung, Google, and others offered USB-C, carefully folded telephoto lenses, and macro modes?

iPhones are never cheap and the iPhone 15 Pro Max is the costliest of the bunch. At $1,199 for the base 256GB model, it's $200 more than the base iPhone 15 Pro. Those two extra Benjamins get you double the storage, a larger screen, notably better battery life, and a significantly more powerful 5x zoom lens on the telephoto camera. Otherwise, the two phones share the new titanium frame, customizable Action button, USB-C port with speedy data transfers and reverse charging, A17 Pro processor, and helpful always-on display. The iPhone 15 Plus ($899) costs even less but loses the speedy processor, telephoto camera, always-on display, and more. If you prefer Android, the Galaxy S23 Ultra ($1,199) and Google Pixel 7 Pro ($899) are the best alternatives. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is a revised copy of the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Except that Apple isn't me, who used to smear my A4 sheets with Tipp-Ex and cross-outs. No, Apple made several adjustments with the utmost care. Eight years on, and spurred on by a legislative kick in the butt, the USB-C standard has finally been adopted. The 5x optical zoom finally enables the iPhone to make up for one of its few weak points in photography when compared to its Android rivals. Some points remain problematic in my opinion. Offering USB 3.2 connectivity without providing a compatible cable is certainly petty. Battery life will not be the best, either. I am also worried about the effectiveness of its temperature control with this titanium frame, which may dissipate less heat than before. The fact remains that the iPhone 15 Pro Max left me with the impression of a clear, upmarket move.

You’ll also find phones with more zoom, better multitasking capabilities, and a smarter assistant on the other side of the walled garden. But this is the first time these features are all coming together on an iPhone, and it’s an important moment if you’re firmly rooted in the iOS ecosystem, as many people are. A lot of different forces outside of Cupertino helped shape the iPhone 15 Pro into what it is: competition and regulators included. The result is a device that’s unmistakably an iPhone but shaped into something better by the pressure. That’s worth celebrating, whether you’re inside the walls of the garden or out.

When Apple said their new iPhone 15 Pro Max was going to be made with Grade 5 Titanium - I was flabbergasted. However... it turns out that the back glass of the Titanium iPhone 15 pro max isnt quite ready for prime time. Something is wrong with Apples new iPhone 15 Pro max.

They won’t make it mini, they won’t make it fold, and they still won’t make that logo glow without some hardcore hackery … but survey says that most of you don’t care one bit: you’re gonna keep buying iPhones no matter what Apple doesn’t do to it. As you probably know, that’s not me – as Data says, “I am an Android.” And I promise, I’m not gonna draw this out into a season-long “will he/won’t he” string of engagement bait episodes. The iPhone doesn’t fold, and I’m all-in on foldables. That’s that. But even die-hard Droids have to deal with the data: the iPhone just keeps gaining momentum, at home and abroad. And after a week with the 15 Pro and Pro Max, I’ve found five features that would make the transition even easier – if I switched.

If you want the very best iPhone money can buy these new devices need to go straight to the top of your shopping list. Apple has packed the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max full of must-have features including that new Action button, faster USB-C port and a processor that makes these gadgets feel like a mini games console. The screen is better, the design is infinitely lighter and you get a camera that's way more capable than its predecessors. Go for the Pro Max and things get even better thanks to that new zoom. Even the price has come down in 2023. Yes, you did read that correctly, the entry-level iPhone 15 Pro now starts from £999! Our only gripes with these devices are no upgrades to the charging speeds and the Action Button being slightly hard to reach. Other than that the iPhone 15 Pro range is faultless.

High demand for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max is well-deserved, according to the first reviews, thanks to the new models’ lightweight titanium frames, immersive screens, beefed-up cameras and numerous incremental improvements, Several reviewers noted how smartphone changes are always incremental nowadays. But the upgrades to the iPhone 15 Pro models seem like some of Apple’s best in years.

This year’s new iPhones actually feel like significant upgrades compared to the last two models. With the introduction of the Action button, USB-C and some camera improvements, the changes coming to Apple’s Pro handsets feel meatier than before. Plus, the new titanium build makes the devices seem refreshed, while under-the-hood advances like the A17 Pro processor and a second-generation ultra wideband chip should make for smooth day-to-day use. Though the individual features seem small on their own, altogether this year’s set of updates add up to more than the sum of their parts. Of course, there’s also the non-pro models of the iPhone 15 to consider, and thanks to their new 48MP sensors and pretty colors, they’re a compelling, lower-cost alternative. They also charge via USB-C and come with the same new portrait image effects, which might be good enough for most people.

f you already have the iPhone 14 Pro or Pro Max, there's no single new feature that screams "upgrade," though you certainly won't regret if you do. If you're upgrading from an older device, then the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will be a massive improvement. And, thanks to the freshly introduced USB-C port, there will be a number of Android users who will consider the switch; they likely won't regret it either, as these new iPhones are, in many ways, the most powerful phones you can get. If you're gunning for the Pro Max, you do need to consider the higher starting price of $1,199. Yes, you do get extra storage (256GB vs 128GB last year), but if you're not the type to fill that up quickly, it might be wasted on you. The iPhone 15 Pro, on the other hand, has the same starting price of $999 and the same starting storage of 128GB.

This year's upgrades to the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max are minor at best, with the iPhone 15 stealing the show. Still, some will find a lot to like about Apple's 2023 high-end iPhone line, especially those that spend a lot of time snapping photos with their smartphone. It's a tale as old as time at this point. If you're using last year's iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max, there's likely not enough to make you run out and buy a new iPhone this year, even if you're a massive Apple fan. But if you're an iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 user looking for a reason to upgrade and consider yourself a true 'pro,' the Action button and subtle design changes could be the reason you've been waiting for. The iPhone 15 Pro starts at $1,449, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at $1,749.Both phones are available for pre-order on September 15th and release on September 22nd.

Yes, especially if it has been a couple of years since you last upgraded. If you’re coming from an iPhone 14 Pro, the improvements are less impactful but for those coming from an iPhone 13, this is a very worthwhile upgrade. From a strictly photographic standpoint, it’s the best Apple has to offer.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max is in my opinion a significant upgrade over the iPhone 14 Pro Max. It's lighter, more comfortable to hold, and has a much better zoom lens. The more comfortable in-hand feel is huge, because I'm someone who have thought the iPhone 12/13/14 Pro Max were uncomfortable to hold.

Apple gave its Pro models a glow-up with a refreshed lighter build, a new shortcut button, and the world's smallest processor -- all while managing to keep that tried-and-true iPhone aesthetic front and center. In my time reviewing both phones, I recorded videos of penguins swimming, played the console game Resident Evil Village on the 15 Pro, gave the 15 Pro Max's new zoom lens a spin atop a Ferris wheel in San Francisco, and tried, absentmindedly, to put a Lightning cable into the new USB-C port (old habits, am I right?).

The iPhone 15 Pro Max wows with its lighter and strong titanium design, 5x zoom camera boost and powerful A17 Pro chip. And the battery life is killer at over 14 hours in our testing, even with the handset’s 6.7-inch screen size. The new Action button also comes in handy, letting you assign all sorts of shortcuts. On the software side, iOS 17 gives you access to standby mode, name drop and other fresh iPhone features. In this iPhone 15 Pro Max review, we discuss whether it’s worth it to upgrade despite the $100 more expensive starting price and relatively slow charging. Every phone tested by CNET's reviews team was actually used in the real world. We test a phone's features, play games and take photos. We examine the display to see if it's bright, sharp and vibrant. We analyze the design and build to see how it is to hold and whether it has an IP-rating for water-resistance. We push the processor's performance to the extremes using both standardized benchmark tools like GeekBench and 3DMark, along with our own anecdotal observations navigating the interface, recording high-resolution videos and playing graphically intense games at high refresh rates. All the cameras are tested in a variety of conditions from bright sunlight to dark indoor scenes. We try out special features like night mode and portrait mode and compare our findings against similarly priced competing phones. We also check out the battery life by using it daily as well as running a series of battery drain tests.

The Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max is a really, really lovely device. The titanium build oozes quality, while the lighter weight and contoured edges make for a very different feel for this device overall compared to its predecessor. The Action Button is super convenient and once again changes how you interact with your iPhone - like Dynamic Island did last year - while the improvements to the camera, including 5x optical zoom give this top dog some new tricks. There's a stunning display, great camera performance and a brilliant battery performance too, and it all runs with fluidity and smoothness. The camera might be a little confusing for those of us who aren't pro photographers, and this device is by no means cheap, but the iPhone 15 Pro Max does so many things exceptionally well, that it is in fact very difficult to criticise. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is effortless in its performance and a fantastic smartphone that's easy to recommend.

The iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max are also powered by the new A17 Pro chip – the first mass-production 3nm chip. Apple claims dramatic performance improvements but I wasn't able to really experience or test it out. These phones feel fast, but that can be said for every new iPhone. We'll need to run more detailed tests to know for sure. As I said, these year's Pro iPhones are the biggest updates we've had in a long time. The changes, though not entirely ground-breaking, are significant. I'm not sure if you should upgrade if you have last year's phones – I'll need more time to mull over this – but you certainly should if you are using anything older.

As usual, the top-end iPhone models are where you’ll find the biggest upgrades and there are a good amount of them this time around. With a new titanium frame, 5x periscope zoom and the introduction of the A17 Pro, the Pro Max is looking to be a formidable smartphone for the year ahead. However, that price is still a concern. The iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at £1,199 for the 256GB model, with the 512GB and 1TB variants costing £1,399 and £1,599 respectively. Will these upgrades be worth the money? Only time will tell, of course, and we’ll be able to deliver our final verdict very soon. The iPhone 15 Pro Max, alongside all iPhone models announced at this year’s event, is available to preorder from 15 September, with the release date scheduled for 22 September.

So, which iPhone to buy? It should be fairly clear cut that it’s the size and weight that will be the most important difference: in spite of its 5X zoom, some people will still prefer a smaller, lighter phone. And if you want a bigger screen. go for the Pro Max model. However, if you do not care about the screen, size and weight and can go either way, the iPhone 15 Pro Max does offer some clear advantages over its smaller, cheaper brother. A better zoom camera and better battery life are nothing to scoff at, and will make a tangible difference in your daily use. On the other hand, is it worth £100/$100 (adjusted for the storage difference)? In the great scheme of things, it’s a small difference: both are expensive phones, some of the best around and both are a great choice.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max is the iPhone I've been waiting for. And I say that as someone who has been carrying around an aging iPhone 12 Pro Max. The biggest upgrade for me is the new 5x telephoto zoom, but the most pleasantly surprising thing is how this flagship feels in your hand. The new titanium design isn't just stronger than the stainless steel sides on the iPhone 14 Pro Max. It results in a lighter overall device, which is great when we're talking about a huge 6.7-inch screen. I also noticed how much slimmer the bezels are on the iPhone 15 Pro Max and appreciate the USB-C port. I spent some time with the iPhone 15 Pro Max at the Apple event, and I came away impressed with the potential of the new A17 Pro chip and the versatility of the camera system. The Action button is handy, too. This could be the best phone of the year.

The Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max is the new super iPhone flagship, and it's bringing a number of new tricks to the party. It still looks like an iPhone, but there are a number of key refinements in this model that make it more exciting than your average yearly update. The slimmer bezels around the display look great, the lighter build, thanks to the move to titanium, is refreshing, and the programmable action button gives us a new feature to play with - like Dynamic Island did last year. Top that off with the new camera capabilities, along with the chip upgrade, and you have yourself an iPhone that sets a new standard for Apple users. I'll bring you my full review as and when I get the device in, but for now, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is the iPhone 15 model to watch.

Apple's iPhone 15 event today saw the company spend a lot of time (and money) talking about its "Apple 2030" vision for carbon neutrality and environmental responsibility. The irony is, Apple wants you to buy more iPhones, and to do so, it's introducing new models with slightly different features so you'll spend your money. With the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro this year, Apple is also beginning to comply with EU regulations that mandate every new device made by the end of next year support USB-C charging. While that's good news for most people, it does mean that those who might not have already a compatible wire will have to, once again, get a new charger.

At the end of the day, it's another upgrade cycle in the tick tock style (not to be confused with TikTok). It's not huge if you are coming from an iPhone 14 Pro Max, it'll be noticeable if you are on an iPhone 13 Pro Max (battery, performance), and it will be a leap for people coming from the iPhone 12 Pro Max (refresh rate, camera, battery life, and performance). iPhones are predictably solid and we don't expect many surprises from the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
