Análisis para el Asus Eee PC 1005PE
The Netbook Revolution!? Not yet officially released but already available - with the Eee PC 1005PE, Asus presents one of the first netbooks based on Intel's new Pine Trail range. Intel's new Atom N450 processor now contains the memory controller and the graphic engine (Intel GMA 3150), which allegedly consumes even less electricity. Read in this review about how the new netbook stands up against models with an Intel Atom N270 or N280 processor.

The 1005HA will not be available anymore, as the 1005P is replacing it. Overall, we liked the netbook just like the 1005HA, since it's essentially the same thing, just rebranded with bumped up specifications. However, all the things we didn't like the first time around are back in this netbook, like the overly glossy finish, the response of the keys and the sticky trackpad. We wish Asus would have spent a little more time on the drawing board and fixed these issues before launching it. If you don't mind these and are in the market for a netbook with good battery life then the 1005P is a good choice.

The Asus 1005PE is a general-purpose netbook from the company that came up with the idea of the netbook. Like its predecessors this is a cheap computer designed with portability in mind – it’s light and easy to carry around – and with enough computing power for office tasks but not much more. No stand-out features but a good-quality netbook with decent design, and not too expensive.

I'm not sure I'd want to recommend the Eee PC as your first and only computer. It is more a second machine, maybe for travelling with, and only then if you can cope with the small keyboard and non-familiar operating system. I'd also say ‘watch this space', because I'd like to think Asus can do more with the concept.

Sleek, curvy and undeniably attractive, Asus' Eee PC 1005PE looks far classier than it has any right to at this price, and on top of those good looks it's a capable wee beastie.

Asus can personally take credit for the explosion of netbooks a few years back, as its original Eee PC kicked off the trend of smaller, lighter portables. The Eee PC 1005PE is the latest in a long line of Eee PC netbooks and, while this new model offers few original features, the quality has not dipped.

Asus' new mid-range netbook succeeds the Eee PC 1005HA-M. Aesthetically close to this model, it retains the same "elegant and natural" design and matte panel. A direct descendant of the Asus Eee PCs, the 1005PE has been build on the same recipe: a high-quality netbook, comfortable to use and with good battery life. We were nicely surprised by the screen contrast and the record battery life. We would however have liked to see some design changes (less gloss) and a slightly quieter machine.

When netbook prices soared, Asus' Eee PC 1005HA came as a breath of fresh air. Great looks were paired with performance, and it was a comparative steal. Now, Asus has incorporated Intel's latest netbook platform, Pine Trail, to produce the Eee PC Seashell 1005P. The Eee PC Seashell 1005P is undoubtedly good-looking, but when you factor in the unnecessary design changes Asus has made, it somehow ends up being less appealing than its predecessor.

Like I already said, Asus managed to lift the bar even higher with their standard 1005PE netbook, making it one of the best in the 10 inch class. You can get better, but not for the same money. Too bad for the glossy body that still catches lots of fingerprints and scratches from the moment you get it out of the box, otherwise this device would be spotless.

It's nearly impossible to walk through an airport or coffee shop without seeing an Eee PC. That's in part because there is a confusing array of overlapping Netbooks that all carry the Asus Eee PC name, despite having different components, prices, and even screen sizes. This retail version of the popular Eee PC Netbook, the 1005PEB, hits the required notes, and is a little less expensive than many other retail Netbooks (but more than some online models).

At an MOP price of 20975, this model comes in quite reasonable, compared to other new Pinetrail models. The CPU performance does not disappoint in any way, with regular readings we get while reviewing these Pinetrail platforms. The battery is the real hero here; it’s a positive outlier, statistically speaking. We got a reading of 10 hours 13 minutes while normal browsing, which is very very good. Looks wise it’s alright, nothing spectacular and keyboard ergonomics are also much better than average.

Not a great deal has changed from the 1005HA released last year to this 1005PE, going on initial appearances and first impressions. The underlying technology has been boosted, but the improvements are almost negligible in everyday use. Smooth HD video playback is possible with some other slight improvements here and there, but buying the 1005PE to replace the 1005HA isn't a wise idea.

ASUS offered some outstanding battery performance in their previous 1005HA but they have managed to improve on that with the PineTrail based Eee PC 1005PE. Users can expect to easily achieve over ten hours of running time in most applications. Unfortunately, the PineTrail platform doesn't really improve on the performance much and HD video support is still missing. Still, it is currently the best choice for those needing long running times and it doesn't hurt that it has an attractive design and comfortable keyboard.

Some may end up disappointed by the novelties brought upon us by Pine Trail, mainly because the advancement is the least where many would like - on the performance field. As we stated in the introduction, weak competition allows Intel to present improved solutions at a rather laid-back rate. Still, one should not be unrealistic and underrate the gain bestowed upon the user by the new Atom platform. If anything, a three-cell battery, cheaper and lighter than a six-cell one, in the netbook will now suffice for many.

While it doesn’t bring the changes we had hoped for, Intel’s new Atom platform and the N450 processor combine with Windows 7 to elevate the Asus Eee PC 1005PE above its predecessors. However, though it can handle 720p video and uses less power, the 1005PE's benefits aren't substantial enough to make it a must buy.

Intel launched its latest generation of netbook-centric Atom processors right at the end of 2009. While the following weeks saw plenty of announcements heralding new machines based on the chips, those PCs have only now started to arrive on shop shelves. It's a nice netbook and, yes, it has the latest Atom tech. But does that make it a better than the rest? Unfortunately not.

What measures 10.1-inches, brings great pleasure to those who possess it and can often be found on the seedier side of the Internet? Well, yes, there is that, but we were actually referring to the Eee PC 1005P -- one of the first netbooks to use Intel's next-generation Atom N450 CPU. The Eee PC 1005P is pretty much identical to its Eee PC 1005PE sibling, but sports a smaller hard drive and is slightly less expensive. It's still a fabulous piece of kit, though, and will appeal to anyone requiring a comfortable netbook with good stamina away from the mains.

Intel's latest update to its netbook platform certainly changes some things around, but it still lacks needed improvements in the graphics and video playback department. Of course, there's the stopgap solution of having the Broadcom Crystal HD companion chip to handle the needs of the HD playback, but it doesn't exactly speak well about the platform if it requires yet again an external solution to address this issue. NVIDIA's ION platform filled this gap marvelously, allowing for light gaming and HD playback, but at the cost of extra power consumption, of course.

If you have an Asus Eee PC 1005HA or 1008HA and you’re looking for a reason to upgrade to the latest model, there’s only one here: The Asus Eee PC 1005PE gets spectacular battery life. Performance-wise, it functions like virtually every other netbook that’s been released since mid-2008. That said, if you’re in the market for a new netbook, the Eee PC 1005PE is a strong contender. It has an excellent keyboard and touchpad, a slim and attractive design, and it offers decent performance for an Intel Atom powered netbook. The sub-$370 price tag doesn’t hurt either.

As the company credited with practically inventing the netbook category, it's no surprise that Asus makes some of the most popular mini laptops around -- chiefly the machines in the Eee PC 1005 series. Combining low (but not the lowest) prices with great battery life and good overall design, the 1005 series has become the netbook reference design for the entire industry. The first next-gen Intel Atom netbook that we've seen, Asus's Eee PC 1005PE offers amazing battery life, but otherwise feels like a last-gen system.

A new round of netbooks has officially begun, as Asus grasps onto Intel’s Pine Trail platform and injects it into the Eee PC line. (Pine Trail, touted by Intel as a power-efficient core-component innovation for netbooks, incorporates the memory controller and graphics acceleration directly onto the CPU die.) Judging from this, the first Pine Trail-based netbook we've seen, the new chipset doesn’t improve performance to a great degree, but we’re seeing big improvements in battery life. Built around Intel’s new Pine Trail platform, this 10-inch netbook has a reasonable price, an excellent battery, and performance that slightly outstrips more expensive models.

Most of the changes relative to the older 1005HA (and 1008HA) are very minor. The LCD panel may or may not be better, depending on what particular panel you happen to get. That's unfortunate, but it's the only outwardly visible change. We did feel that the keyboard and touchpad buttons were "loose" compared to the 1005HA, but it might simply be a case of getting an early sample. The design doesn't appear to be any different so we can't imagine ASUS making changes to the keyboard that are clearly worse.

If you've been waiting for Pine Trail netbooks hoping for noticeably better performance and graphics, you're not going to get it -- and the truth is you probably won't even notice the difference between the 1005PE and older Diamondville-based Eee PCs until you start using it on battery power alone. Though we're a bit disappointed in Pine Trail's minimal performance improvement, especially in terms of streaming 720p video content, that's not to say the $380 1005PE won't be a solid, affordable choice for those looking for a 10-inch netbook with seriously impressive battery life when it goes on sale January 4th. And when it comes to netbooks, Pine Trail or not, you can't really ask for much more.

In the Eee PC 1005PE-P, ASUS has improved upon its best netbook in multiple ways. For roughly the same price as the earlier version, you’re getting a larger hard drive, a sturdier keyboard, over 100 minutes of additional runtime, and more robust software. While Intel’s new Atom N450 processor doesn’t really improve performance, the extra endurance it provides will certainly be welcome among netbook users. At $379, this netbook is a bargain, undercutting the Toshiba mini NB205 by $20 while lasting longer on a charge.
