EN→ES Archive.org versionThe notebook we are looking at today is the G2 notebook which comes outfitted with a ATI Radeon Mobility X1700, a large 17" LCD screen, and some unique lighting features. In the end, I think the Asus G2 is a good gaming product for the mid-range market. It doesn't break the bank like your typical SLI notebook and provides some decent game performance. The Asus G2 is a well rounded product offering a excellent balance of price, CPU performance, gaming ability, and slick style. However, if you're really serious about gaming I would suggest researching other models as they may prove to offer more gaming bang for the buck.

The performance and specs of the laptop matches most 15.4” notebooks, but in terms of graphics and other 17” notebook there is much to be desired. The notebook is geared towards people looking for an excellent screen, and good CPU performance and average graphical power. It is a desktop replacement for midrange performance and those who wouldn’t mind using a relatively low native resolution. In the end the notebook did meet all my needs in a 17” notebook, except for graphics. Like many we would want something much more powerful like a 7900GS or GTX or an ATI comparable solution. The price is also a bit steep for what you are getting when considering the GPU can be improved. Look forward to other 17” gaming laptops, and possibly the rumored Asus G3.

Until then, this preview should let you know that there is a new player in the enthusiast gaming notebook market. Although they have served as an ODM for several of their competitors in this segment, ASUS is now wanting a piece of the pie themselves and are taking this market seriously.

ATI Mobility Radeon X1700: La tarjeta gráfica ATI Mobility Radeon X1700 para laptops es el sucesor del ATI Mobility Radeon X1600. Alcanza un rendimiento más alto con el mismo consumo de energía debido a strained Silicon. Debido a píxel- y vertex-pipelines adicionales el rendimiento es claramente superior al del X1600 y por lo tanto suficiente para juegos actuales con configuraciones altas y medianas. El competidor directo debería ser NVIDIA GeForce go 7700.
También una variante XT con un clock probablemente mayor (codename M66-XT) podrían ser planeadas.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Este es el sucesor Core Duo y el Core Solo con un pipeline más largo y con una velocidad entre 5-20% sin mayor consumo de energía. Adicional al diseño de Core Duo existe un cuarto decodificador, una unidad SSE ampliada y una unidad lógica aritmética (ALU) adicional.
Sus características son: 2 núcleos (cores), una amplificación de comando de 64-bit EM64T y 2 o 4 MB L2 Cache y 291 millones de transistores, que son acabados en 65nm. Mas allá de esto, todos los tipos soportan técnicas "Execute Disable Bit", SSSE3 (SSE4), Enhanced Speedstep, LaGrande y la mayoría de técnicas de virtualizacion (VT) Vanderpool.
El Core 2 Duo para laptops es idéntico a los procesadores Core 2 Duo para desktops, pero los procesadores para notebooks trabajan con tensiones más bajas (0.95 a 1188 Volt) y un Frontside bus clock (1066 contra 667 MHz).
