Análisis para el HP EliteBook 2740p
Origen: Notebooks.com EN→ES Archive.org version
The HP EliteBook 2740p offers users a versatile user experience that fits in well to the corporate environment by including security and docking features. The EliteBook enables businesses to include tablets in the mix of computers without making special cases exceptions and relying on consumer grade devices. Given the flexibility and the durability of this device it’s certainly worth considering for corporate environments where note taking is key as well as for use with specially designed corporate applications designed to work on a tablet; especially those that need significant processing power.

The EliteBook models are HP's attempt to combine business features with both style and sturdiness. The 2740p takes the great pen experience of previous EliteBook tablets and adds the performance of a full-voltage Core i5 processor, plus the convenience (and sheer fun) of touch. There are a lot of nice-to-have touches like the card scanner and keyboard light, but you wouldn't buy the 2740p to get them and you're certainly paying for everything you get. Budget for the extended battery (or a second standard battery) or you'll be disappointed. But if you need a tablet PC that gives you the input options of tablet and the power of a real PC that you can use as your main system, and that combination is worth this kind of money to you, the EliteBook 2740p very nearly has it all.

It's fun to zoom in and out of images and play with the toys of Windows 7's Touch Pack, but in the absence of everyday touch-enabled applications like those of HP's TouchSmart consumer PCs, tablet PCs depend on in-house apps for vertical industries such as healthcare. The EliteBook 2740p's mix of precise stylus and breezy touch input makes it an outstanding platform for development and deployment of such apps.

While it takes an extra battery - and added weight - for the HP EliteBook 2740p to feel complete, this small laptop can handle mobile work anywhere. It's quick, and the convertible touchscreen makes it especially versatile. That touchscreen and the unit's all-around performance make up for the shortcomings in battery life and screen colours.

If this review was solely based on performance and battery life, the HP Elitebook 2740p would blow every other convertible tablet out of the water. Transitioning to standard-voltage processors gives performance seekers something to cheer about and the dual batteries delivered unprecedented battery scores for a convertible tablet. Still, HP needs to improve in two areas (namely the user experience and screen luminance) before it can pose a threat to Lenovo's tablet.

The HP EliteBook 2740p tablet PC offers great performance with a strong and durable chassis. Compared to other EliteBook notebooks, some areas, like the screen cover, seem weaker, although we didn't find any indication that the plastic screen cover would protect the screen less than a metal one. The 2740p closely matches the Lenovo ThinkPad X201, with its high quality screen and faster Core i5 and Core i7 processor, and easily surpasses the Dell XT2, which is still based on the older and slower low-voltage Intel Core 2 Duo processors. Overall, we were impressed with its attractive design and well-engineered slice battery that looks like it is one solid part with the tablet when connected. If you are in the market for a new tablet, consider the HP EliteBook 2740p, with models starting at $1,599.

For those who want the versatility of a tablet that supports both pen and touch input, the HP EliteBook 2740p is a good value. For $1,699 you get Core i5 performance, a sturdy design, and security features galore. The price of that power, however, is below-average battery life; you’ll want to spring for the heavy optional slice if you want all-day endurance. We also wish the touchpad were taller. Overall, we prefer the pricier but more powerful Lenovo X201 Tablet ($1,900) because it features an even faster Core i7 processor and an eight-cell battery that doesn’t add too much weight, along with a better pointing stick. But if you’re on a tighter budget, the 2740p is a solid choice.

More than a decade before Apple stole headlines with its iPad, HP was among the first to offer a convertible laptop that could serve as a standard notebook PC or as a tablet. Its latest progeny is the EliteBook 2740p, a fast 12.1-inch ultraportable that also happens to be a killer tablet. HP brings Core i5 power to convertible tablets with the EliteBook 2740p. The input experience is excellent, but this model will push the limits of what buyers are willing to pay.
