Despite problems with its screen, the HP EliteBook Folio 1020 is still a very good ultraportable laptop. HP’s list price of nearly £1500 ex VAT is hard to stomach, but thankfully it can be had at a much more reasonable £956 ex VAT if you shop around. Its excellent build quality, good battery life, comfortable keyboard, wide selection of ports, quiet operation and useful security features make it a top-notch lightweight business laptop.

The HP EliteBook Folio 1020 is a well-made machine that offers the portability and aesthetics of the Apple MacBook Air 13-inch (2014), our Editors' Choice mainstream ultraportable, but doesn't match it in every respect. It doesn't deliver the all-day battery life or the potent performance offered by the MacBook Air or similar Windows systems like the Dell XPS 13 Touch. It's a great option for office workers who want both portability and a solid work system, particularly for the security conscious, but if you want to make the most of your work—whether in the office or on the go—you'd do better with either the Apple MacBook Air 13-inch (2014) or the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro.

The HP EliteBook Folio 1020 is a fantastic premium laptop that delivers on almost expectation of a business laptop. When it comes to portability the Folio 1020 is ideal because of the lightweight design, while the durable chassis ensures that the device will hold up to the wears and tears of the road; and let’s not forget the long-lasting battery life that helps users get the most out of a single charge.

Pequeño bálsamo de fierabrás. El fabricante describe su nuevo EliteBook como un resistente compañero de viaje. La construcción y las emisiones nos impresionan, pero hay que hacer sacrificios en rendimiento comparado con la competencia.

Although Windows 10 was available to some to download as early as August last year this is the first unit that I have reviewed that was designed to use Windows 10 and by that I mean it can use all the features that Microsoft had as selling points when they tried to persuade people to upgrade. A natively installed product this is what Windows 10 should be.

Basically, the EliteBook Folio 1020 G1 is a clamshell version of the Elite x2 1011 G1: a well-made and well-equipped business machine, held back by a few niggles and an immense price. It can be worthwhile to invest in a laptop as secure as this, but firms and individuals who don't generally deal with hyper-sensitive data could probably get away with a cheaper consumer ultrabook.

So that touchpad may end up costing the Folio 1020 some customers, which is a shame because this is a fantastic all-rounder. For me, there’s not one area where it falls short: it’s light, compact and capable, and it feels built to last. It’s a business laptop that’s as refined and desirable as a MacBook, yet there’s no compromise on connectivity or security.

The Folio looks and feels fantastic, but HP’s desire to make the best-looking business laptop on the market has resulted in compromises in several departments. Performance can’t match rivals, battery life is middling, and other machines offer more versatility at cheaper prices. The Folio is stunningly stylish, but it’s a machine for people with more money than sense.

The HP EliteBook Folio 1020 is an incredibly capable business notebook that is thin, light and looks great. The price isn’t a factor that buyers can overlook, but the premium design, ability to withstand small drops and performance that will meet the needs of professional users justifies a higher price.

HP is charging an arm and a leg for this Special Edition laptop ($2799 for our specific review model), and this is way too much for what you get. We’re accustomed to business laptops costing a lot more than consumer models, but it’s not like this notebook has a killer configuration or any features that are out of the ordinary.

The HP Folio 1020 G1 is a laptop with stunning good looks, mediocre performance and rugged durability. The downside is that the energy efficient Intel Core M processor doesn't deliver more performance or battery life. Despite its gorgeous QHD resolution touchscreen display, users with graphic needs should steer clear of the Folio, but the average office worker who lives inside Chrome, Office and YouTube will find a lot to love about this business Ultrabook. HP's design attention, security focus and emphasis on durability makes this a winner for road warriors who need a light system for travel.

Business laptops have gotten appreciably thinner and lighter in recent years. HP's latest EliteBook is about as slim, light, and attractive as Apple's MacBook, but with more ports, thoughtful business-focused features, excellent input devices, and long battery life. If you need to travel light, it's one of the best business laptops we've tested to date.

The EliteBook Folio G1 is an ideal size for productivity users on the go, providing enough room for a full-size keyboard and a screen that can show plenty of content without making you squint. With strong performance, a colorful display, a world-class typing experience, accurate face logins and a drop-friendly design, HP's laptop also ticks off most of the boxes we'd put on a checklist for making the ultimate ultrabook.

The Folio is light, slim and good-looking, and HP has crammed a superb screen and a decent range of business features into its svelte frame. Compromises have been made elsewhere, though, which means that other notebooks are faster, longer-lasting and cheaper.
