Análisis para el HP Victus 15t-fa000
Origen: The Verge EN→ES
Ultimately, the HP Victus 15 is an $800 laptop that can game. That fact alone is enough to recommend it to some degree (again, especially if you see it on sale). But it is worth considering a few alternatives. For example, the Victus 15 with an RTX 3050 (which we’d expect to deliver a better experience on those AAA titles) MSRPs for $969 but is on sale for $697 as of this writing. Acer’s staple Nitro 5 with that RTX GPU is currently available for $899 (just $100 more than my test model), as is Dell’s G15 with an even more powerful RTX 3050 Ti. My point is that if you can pay just $100 more, can find a good discount, or are willing to buy used, there are all kinds of options available for close to this price that can really nail AAA games. At the end of the day, this is a budget laptop with budget laptop frame rates — and if you’re in a position to do so, you can get much more gaming power for not too much more money.

As long as you don’t plan on running Microsoft Flight Simulator, which is known for bricking GPUs, Shadow of the Tomb Raider (there’s not enough VRAM), or any other game that requires a lot of graphical juice, you should be fine with the Victus 15. My only reservation with the HP Victus 15 is that its rival, the Acer Nitro 5, is often regularly discounted. At one point, it was only $50 more than the HP ($849 at Best Buy(opens in new tab)). And according to our testing, the Nitro 5 blows the Victus 15 out of the water — and it has a modern Nvidia GeForce RTX 30-series GPU. The HP Victus 15 is regularly discounted, too. I've seen it drop to $699 on Best Buy!(opens in new tab) At that price point, the Victus 15 is a total steal. That's $150 cheaper than the Nitro 5, which makes it far more appealing. Long story short, wait for the HP Victus 15 to hit a sub-$700 price point if you can. If not, the Nitro 5 offers better value, especially if you manage to snag one at $850.

The HP Victus 15 is not a great gaming laptop. It’s unattractive, flimsy, and has a lackluster display. And, most important of all, game performance is merely adequate. Most titles are playable at 30 FPS, but reaching 60 FPS will often require significant cuts to visual fidelity. It’s saved by the price. The Victus 15 I reviewed carries an MSRP of $799, which is already inexpensive, and is currently reduced to $549.99. That’s an absolute rock bottom price for a laptop with discrete graphics. And, despite its flaws, the Victus 15 offers a good keyboard, pleasant touchpad, and solid processor performance. That makes the HP Victus 15 an easy recommendation for budget PC gaming. It’s not ideal, but it’s a deal at this price. Just keep in mind that it’s value, not features, that gives the Victus 15 its edge—and that edge will be dulled the moment a competitor drops its own price to compete.

So wrapping up this review, if you’re on the market looking for an entry-level gaming laptop with upgraded internals then the Victus 15 could actually offer a good value. It can easily run popular AAA titles, and the laptop also has good thermals to keep the temperature under control. Gaming aside, its mediocre display, basic design, and average battery life could be a dealbreaker to many.

The base-model HP Victus 15 has a temptingly low price (especially if Best Buy keeps its discount), but to be blunt, there's no need to settle for GeForce GTX 1650 graphics when so many affordable gaming rigs today offer RTX 3050 or 3060 GPUs. Unless your budget just can't stretch beyond $600 or $650, look for a higher-end configuration of the Victus 15, or look elsewhere to better-equipped rivals like the MSI Katana GF66 or Acer Nitro 5.

Rating the HP Victus 15 is challenging given its wide range of configurations. The $600 configuration (on sale from $870) with an AMD Ryzen 5 5600H and a GTX 1650 provides a lot of value and will likely provide similar performance to my review unit. Speaking of that, the configuration I reviewed justifies its $800 price, but barely. In the end, the Victus 15 performed well enough and is built solidly enough to make it a solid new entry in the budget gaming arena. You’ll just want to compare the available options before making your choice.

The HP Victus 15 is what you should envision when you think about what a budget gaming laptop should be. One of the latest models in HP’s growing lineup of low-cost gaming machines, the Victus 15 starts off extremely affordable without compromising too much on specs and only moderately increases in price as the specs climd higher. It's certainly a no-frills option that lacks a lot of refinement, but you at least get three simple colors options (mica silver, performance blue, and ceramic white) for the chassis, so it's not a bad looking laptop either. HP Victus 15 (15.6-inch Silver) at Amazon for $1,024.05. The Victus 15 is sturdy and a bit chunky, so bags that aren’t made to carry around larger gaming laptops will have a harder time fitting it. The HP Victus 15 has a good assortment of ports and its 15.6-inch display is pretty good for the price, with solid viusuals and resolution even in higher settings, and the 144Hz refresh rate is surprisingly good.
