So, if we overlook the minor issues, this is easily the best foldable available in Nepal right now. However, I also like the OnePlus Open. I think the software experience of OnePlus, especially the “OnePlus Canvas” multitasking feature, is the best thing on a foldable. But after using the Honor, the OnePlus Open feels quite bulky. So, if you’re considering switching from a regular phone to a foldable one, I think the Honor Magic V2 is going to be easy to adapt to. However, it’s not wallet-friendly, as it’s quite expensive at Rs. 2.40 lakhs! But, there’s a unique charm to foldable that makes them worth the investment. The Honor Magic V2 impresses with its thin design, strong hinge, and vibrant display. It offers smooth performance, good battery life, and convenient multitasking features. The camera delivers detailed photos, but video quality could be improved. Slow software updates and a high price are minor drawbacks. Overall, it's a compelling choice for those seeking a premium foldable experience.

The Honor Magic V2 achieved a very high score in its display tests thanks to big improvements over its predecessor the Magic Vs in all attributes, especially color and video. The unfolded screen’s readability benefited from the anti-reflective film, which was effective on most wavelengths, especially when used outdoors. The Magic V2’s peak brightness in outdoor-like conditions, however, was measured at 950 nits in High Brightness Mode, which is on the level of most foldable devices, but much lower than the 2500 nits advertised. The gamma was also better on the Magic V2 because the rendering under sunlight was a bit more natural. The Honor Magic V2’s 120 Hz refresh rate (versus the 90 Hz on the Magic Vs) did not result in any flicker on the screen. After readability, color was the device’s next strongest point.

The Honor Magic V2's has got a great display on the cover and a large bendy one inside, and makes proper good use of both. Its cameras aren't exactly cutting-edge, but where they fall short, they don't do so in a dealbreaking manner. And we were actually quite pleased by the main and the ultrawide units on the back, for stills in particular. Battery life is bested by some key competitors, and there's no wireless charging capability, but the charging speed sort of makes up for that. The lack of an IP rating isn't great, we'll admit, and the lack of Android 14 upgrade doesn't bode well for the Magic's long-term software future. Overall, the Honor Magic V2 is probably not the best value in its class. But its main claim to fame is its slim waistline, and if you want the benefits of a large foldable in as close as possible to a bar form factor, this one is shaping up as a top choice.

The Honor Magic V2 is a foldable smartphone that is positioned as an alternative to Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. It has an equally stunning display, performance, and battery, but has a better value, thanks to the lower price tag. It is also thinner and lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 5, which can have a significant impact on the user experience and may change people’s perception of foldable smartphones. To achieve a lower price tag, Honor had to cut some corners. These drawbacks are a lack of wireless charging and an official IP rating for dust and water resistance. So, if you don’t care much about wireless charging or IP ratings, then the Honor Magic V2 is an absolute gem. But if the lack of wireless charging is a deal breaker for you, then you should look elsewhere. The obvious alternative would be the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 but it comes at a high price tag, so we have a different alternative for you and that’s the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra.

Now for price, and the Honor Magic V2 does not come cheap at R39 999 (RRP). This isn’t really a surprise given the components that went into this foldable’s construction, not to mention just how much thinner and lighter it is compared to the competition, but even at R40k it is a tough sell. That said, it is one of the better folio-style foldables you can get right now, and if you are indeed wanting to pick up a foldable phone, the Magic V2 comes highly recommended. Just be prepared to pay should you want to get one, as is the case with most flagship foldables at the moment.

We're giving the Honor Magic V2 an overall rating of 9 (out of 10) despite what it misses. Honor didn't only make an effort to slim down the phone while still providing a great foldable experience. It still provided high-performing hardware, a good main camera, and exceptional battery life. Being five hundred bucks cheaper than its main rival also helps it get a slightly higher rating because of its overall strong showing. Sure, it's missing wireless charging and water resistance, but you probably won't get the svelte foldable phone that people have been hoping for, and this is Honor's design choice. The Honor Magic V2 comes in Black, Purple and a Black PU vegan leather options for its rear backing. Retailing at S$1,999, there's only a single 16GB + 512GB configuration available in Singapore.

If you like the idea of a big-screen foldable but are put off by the size and weight that usually comes as part of the package, the Honor Magic V2 could be your perfect companion. The delayed European launch means that some of the hardware is no longer cutting-edge, but the phone still performs brilliantly and is well worth your consideration.

Overall, this is an exquisite piece of hardware that, like its Porsche Design RSR sister, shows Honor’s intent at establishing itself as one of the forerunners in the smartphone industry in the years ahead. It is most impressive because of its slim and light design and build, as it feels less hefty in the hand when folded than some large non-folding devices. The battery experience and the high-quality displays are other plus points. Having access to a larger screen when needed (for work or for play) is a delight, but going forward the firm needs to up its software and multi-tasking game to the level of Samsung’s. This is the third book-style foldable in a row, after Galaxy Z Fold 5 and OnePlus Open, that has won me over so much that I don’t want to go back to using non-foldable smartphones again.

Of course, some trade-offs have been made. It notably lacks rated water resistance handling and a good telephoto camera with high levels of optical zoom. There’s also no wireless charging on the phone, which is a bit of a shame. The crease isn't quite gone either, and it's more visible than from its Oppo rival. Depending on your budget, these downsides can feel minor when you realise other bookstyle foldables of the same class can command nearly S$1,000 more (especially for a 1TB storage variant from Samsung). In that vein, the Honor Magic V2 seems excellent, both as a representation of its category and what to expect from this class of devices in the future. It seems like the days of expensive flagship-class bookstyle foldable phones will eventually come to pass if Honor keeps the pressure on the incumbent.

For those considering importing the Honor Magic V2, using the device on T-Mobile’s network, I was able to connect to 5G or 4G LTE in southwestern Virginia. It does not support T-Mobile’s 5G UC, which is where the highest speeds reside. The Magic V2 is an incredible conversation piece due to its thin profile. Honor’s engineering chops — between the materials used and the form itself — are on full display. It absolutely looks like the future and a leap forward in foldable phone hardware design – because it is. In the Magic V2, Honor has produced shockingly thin foldable hardware, equipped it with a modestly capable camera set for photos and videos, powered it with futuristic battery technology, and sabotaged it with software that will make some want to throw it out of the nearest window. At $2,000 US, I find it hard to recommend when there are foldables that offer a more polished experience and longer software support for less money.

Taking close up images of food were generally decent, with accurate colour representation, while night shots were surprisingly good with little noise or grain. You do get motion blur with moving subjects due to the slower shutter speed though, as seen by the fan blades in the photo above, but this is present across most phones using night mode. I’ll definitely be looking to test the cameras in greater detail over the coming days for the full review. The phone performed fine as well for day to day usage with no slowdowns or stutters, thanks to the high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip inside. The synthetic benchmarks will be available in the full review, but we don’t expect the numbers to be disappointing at all.

The Honor Magic V2 is an exquisite piece of hardware with software that can’t quite live up to expectations. The folder is so close to being a regular phone when folded that it’s easy to forget a giant screen hides on the inside. But the software is just not as polished or capable as rivals, nor is it supported for long enough. The lack of a water-resistance rating puts doubts on durability, while camera performance is a little weak in some areas. None of these issues are outright deal breakers and many could be fixed with updates. But they are disappointing for a device of this price, particularly when cheaper rivals do better on these fronts.

I am really quite keen on the Honor Magic V2 5G. The hardware is fantastic and it feels as good after a few weeks of usage as it did on day 1 when it came out of the box, The hinge is smooth and the motion is fluid the lack of crease is so nice to see and use. The screens are crisp and clear no matter what the lighting. The external display size makes this feel like a normal slab phone but you have the benefit of that extra real estate when you unfold it. In terms of software, Honor has stepped up here and I think they have improved upon the Magic VS and I expect more will come in the update to Magic OS 8.0. Multi-tasking is more capable than the pixel fold if you want to use it but the basic of two apps on the same display works brilliantly. The Magic OS implementation has become more in line with the Android ‘Stock” feel that people think of without needing to use all the bells and whistles to get stuff done.

Honor took its time in launching the Magic V2 globally, and as a result, the phone is running last year's silicon and Android 13. It also misses out on an IP rating and wireless charging, and the software doesn't have the same level of polish as its rivals. But all of these issues fade into the background once you actually start using the foldable. The Magic V2 is the thinnest foldable available today, and using it is transformative — it is fundamentally different to every other device I've used, and it feels like a regular phone while still featuring a tablet-sized foldout display. It also has the best battery life of any foldable, a smooth hinge that's easy to use, standout performance, and the cameras take great photos. Sure, it has its downsides, but if you want a thin-and-light foldable, there isn't anything better.

The Honor Magic V2 raises the bar for foldable phone design. It’s thinner and lighter than its comparatively priced rivals, and borrows enough high-spec features from Honor’s premium candy bar devices to warrant plaudits beyond its impressive form factor. That said, you’ll pay handsomely for the privilege of owning one, and have to settle for middling software and no water resistance.

If you haven’t already heard, the world’s thinnest folding phone is now in Singapore. I know, you’re probably skeptically thinking: “how thin can a folding phone be?”. To my surprise too, the Honor Magic V2 is actually almost as thin as a normal phone! Check out the following images.

The engineering prowess on show in the Honor Magic V2's large but still portable displays, surprisingly high battery capacity and high-res camera system is certainly impressive. However, the asking price for this phone, first launched mid-last year, may make this a difficult foldable to justify buying, assuming you can get it at all.

Alongside the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 or Google Pixel Fold, the Honor Magic V2 looks like it's plucked out of the future. It's thin, light, and has a comfortable-sized cover screen as well as best-in-class battery life. However, the phone lacks wireless charging, there's no IP rating for weather-resistance, the software interface could do with refinement, and its cameras are good but not the greatest. Overall, however, the Honor Magic V2 remains a milestone for foldables thanks to its slim profile and excellent hardware.

As I mentioned at the beginning, the Honor Magic V2 isn’t available in the US, and even where it’s available internationally, it’s prohibitively expensive at €2,000. You will likely have to think twice about spending this amount of money. On the one hand, the Magic V2 is likely the most technologically advanced hardware out there in the foldable space right now. On the other hand, the company still hasn’t figured out how to optimize its Android skin for an international audience. If hardware is the most important thing to you, and you want to live on the bleeding edge of what’s currently physically possible in phones, then the Magic V2 might be worth consideration. But if software is more important to you (or even just equally so), the OnePlus Open presents a much more viable alternative. OnePlus’s smart software features that allow you to use three apps at the same time without things feeling cramped are unmatched, and even if the hardware may not be as impeccable as on the Magic V2, it offers a better overall experience.

HONOR made a considerable move forward with the Magic V2, compared to the HONOR Magic Vs. Not only is the hardware a lot better than it was, ranging from the general feel to the size, folding mechanism, and so on… but the use of a silicon-carbon battery is also a smart move. This phone is not perfect, but if you don’t mind MagicOS; or actually like HONOR’s software, this could be a great option for you. The phone originally launched in China, but the company did announce its availability for Europe as well. In other words, the global variant is now also available, and this phone surely has a lot to offer. It sure is not cheap, but if you want one of the best foldables around, which shocked the world with its thinness and weight, this is a great choice.

If the durability of Samsung’s foldable opened my eyes to foldables, then the Honor Magic V2 won me over entirely. Not only is the phone stunning, but its looks align with equally impressive performance, a battery life that exceeded my expectations, and a build quality and durability that put to bed many of my foldable fears. This one, in particular, is claimed to be 400,000 folds or roughly 10 years if you open and close it around 100 times per day. However, as was the case with Motorola’s Razr+ in The Great Folding Test Vol. II I mentioned earlier, nothing is guaranteed. Would I recommend picking up the Honor Magic V2? Yes, I would. If you take good care of your devices, they’ll typically take good care of you in return. I’ve gotten over my foldable fears, and maybe it's time more of us did the same. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve a moat to dig and a stick to sharpen to fend off Honor when they come to take it back from me.

The Honor Magic V2 did not make the final review rating easy for me. It is the first foldable that, despite its increased weight, I would still use as a daily driver due to its large external display and, above all, its incredible thinness, if I hadn't already opted for a Motorola Razr 40 Ultra. However, it was precisely because of the bulky form factor that I picked up the Motorola. The Honor Magic V2 is the first foldable where I really enjoyed using the large internal display. The battery life was not only surprising but also outstanding. On the other hand, the recommended retail price is a whopping €2,000, which, let's not kid ourselves, will cause a black-sized hole in in the monthly household budget. Foldables should be significantly cheaper after 5 years of availability. It is ultimately the price that cost the Magic V2 a very good rating.

A foldable that wants you to forget it even is one, at least half the time, doesn’t sound like a winning approach. And yet I think it works like a dream for the Honor Magic V2. The low weight, thin frame and normal-shaped front display don’t compromise everyday interaction, yet that huge inner screen if perfect for productivity. Even better, it undercuts both the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Pixel Fold, while competing on performance, battery life and camera image quality. Traditional form factor flagships still have it beat on the photography front, though, and Honor’s software isn’t quite as slick as the OnePlus Open, which is also even cheaper. The firm also needs to extend its long-term update support. That means the Magic V2 isn’t a revelation – but by addressing the areas that turn prospective foldable buyers off, it’s very much worth your attention.

At £1,699.99 in the UK, the Magic V2’s price sits squarely between the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Google Pixel Fold — which both start at £1,749 with less RAM and half the storage — and the £1,599 OnePlus Open with the same 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage as Honor’s foldable. That puts the Honor Magic V2 in a difficult position. It doesn’t have the IP rating, ultra-thin glass, wireless charging, or more powerful software of Samsung’s Z Fold 5. And the OnePlus Open manages to beat it on price, while also offering more multitasking options and less in the way of error messages. Honor’s Magic V2 is unquestionably an impressive piece of hardware. It really is slim and light enough to (mostly) feel like you’re using a regular smartphone until you want to unfold it. I just wish its software were similarly svelte.

Reviewing the Honor Magic V2 again in 2024 after the official launch, following my early look last year. Thankfully I've seen loads of improvements in the Honor Magic V2 including to those camera smarts and the everyday foldable phone experience. So while the OnePlus Open is still my favourite bendy smartphone in 2024, the Magic V2 is a hot rival for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Pixel Fold. When it comes to the camera performance, the Honor Magic V2 isn't as powerful in all conditions as the Pixel Fold, with Google's excellent image processing. It's fine for most everyday shots however and that telephoto lens has improved. Where the Honor Magic V2 impresses is its design. This foldable smartphone is ridiculously skinny and light, better even than the OnePlus Open, with zero gap. Plus the hinge is now just the right level of stiff. Likewise, I really liked the external display, which is much easier to use than the Galaxy Fold 5's. Battery life is another area where the Magic V2 absolutely smashes the competition.

The HONOR Magic V2 is proof that the foldable form factor has been largely polished, with the usual issues seen in the earlier generations of foldables mostly ironed out. Sure, the crease is still technically noticeable and the cover screen is still a bit too narrow, but it’s gotten to the point where these are such minor issues that you’ll forget about them almost immediately after using this phone. And with each generation to come, these little imperfections will go away through refinements. his is honestly the best foldable phone I’ve ever used and the most fun I’ve had with a smartphone in general in a long time. While I’m still mainly an iPhone user, if I ever had to switch back to Android and choose a foldable, the Magic V2 would be my first pick. I hope that, in the near future, they patch up the small software kinks I mentioned, but honestly, they aren’t dealbreakers.

HONOR is certainly making a name for themselves in Malaysia with a series of solid offerings of late including last year’s Magic5 Pro that was one of the most powerful yet affordable flagship phones in the market. For 2024, they’re looking to add another feather in their cap as they’ll be launching their titular foldable the HONOR Magic V2 – in Malaysia that’s currently the world’s lightest and slimmest inward foldable. We managed to get a unit ahead of its official launch – here’s our HONOR Magic V2 first look and unboxing where we check out what their flagship foldable has to offer.

The HONOR Magic V2 seemingly has it all for tech lovers in the Philippines: it has an attractive design, solid build quality, excellent screens, great cameras, and enough power under the hood to stand toe-to-toe with other flagships. The only problem I have with it is that HONOR is still conflicted about whether to sell this thing in the Philippines. It’d be around Php 80-90K if they did, which is what you’d typically pay for a high-end device like this. It’s expensive sure, but it’d be one of the best folds in the country if they brought it over. One can hope.

Overall, the Honor Magic V2 is a good device. It is good productivity tool as you have plenty of screen real-estate at your fingertips. We admit that there is no special about this phone when it comes to features and performance – because it is all expected from a device at this tier, but, the fact that it doesn’t screen Foldable when you are using it? We mean, the inner display is just hiding on that very thin chassis, giving you that feeling as if you are using a regular smartphone, but when you need a bigger display you can just easily flip it out and you have twice that bigger display than the cover screen and for us, that’s just simply amazing. We have to break it to you but unfortunately, this device won’t be available in our shores anytime soon as this might be a China-exclusive device, but just to give you a perspective on the pricing, the 512GB variant is priced at CNY 9,999 or roughly PHP 76,700.

This is certainly a phone that will attract the attention of anyone that's into the new foldable tech. It is pretty, it is very thin, it's packed to the brim with high tech. Oh, did we mention it also supports a (separately-sold) stylus? The UI... may not be everyone's cup of tea, but the hardware is absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, even though that was an "European introduction" of the phone, it did not come with any price-tag or launch date attached. And Honor is being quite mum on the possibility of a launch. But, let's say we wouldn't be surprised if we were to see it hit certain EU markets in the next two months. As for the US... we wouldn't hold our breath.

Reviewing the Honor Magic V2 after two weeks of using this foldable as my full-time phone, including an unboxing, camera test, gaming, battery life and beyond. The Honor Magic V2 is one of the most impressive bendy smartphones of 2023, even against rivals like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Pixel Fold. When it comes to the camera performance, the Honor Magic V2 isn't as powerful as the Pixel Fold, with Google's excellent image processing. It's fine for most everyday shots, but struggles when it comes to the telephoto zoom - while the Samsung Z Fold 5 beats it for video. However, the Honor Magic V2 has them both beat for design. It's ridiculously skinny and light, with zero gap and a smooth hinge (although it can't stay open quite as wide when sat on a desk). Likewise, I really liked the external display, which is much easier to use than the Galaxy foldable.

However, even with these caveats in place, the Honor Magic V2 feels important. As if foldables have finally reached a tipping point when it comes to their physical design; its thin, relatively lightweight design means you can now choose a foldable without worrying about it weighing you down too much. The most important barrier that foldables such as this need to hurdle, however, is the price, which until now has remained too high for the mass market to consider. Unfortunately, the Honor Magic V2 isn’t going to change that situation when it hits shelves early next year. It’s still going to be expensive. Frustratingly, Honor isn’t announcing a UK price as yet but we’d expect it to come in between the Galaxy Fold 5 and the Honor Magic Vs. Whether you’ll want to stump up that will depend largely on the usual things – battery life, camera, screen quality and the software – and we won’t know how good it is in this regard until we get our hands on one for full testing later in the year. Watch this space.

While I didn't get to put the Honor Magic V2 through its paces to any great degree, there is no doubt that it feels incredible in the hand, and is the first foldable to truly feel like a regular phone in your pocket - bringing everything that's great about the foldable experience without any of the compromises. If the software experience can live up to the external one, then it will be a foldable that Samsung, and others, should be watching closely.

At first glance, the Honor Magic V2 raises the bar for foldable phones. It’s thinner and lighter than comparatively priced rivals, and borrows enough high-spec features from Honor’s premium candy bar devices to warrant plaudits beyond its impressive form factor.

Though it’s far too early to give a definitive verdict, the Honor Magic V2 could be a very tempting option for foldable fans with a much thinner and lighter design than any other available right now, paired with great displays and a capable camera setup.

It's hard to fault the Honor Magic V2 after my hands-on time. A foldable phone that's slimmer and lighter than its rivals (and some standard phones) is very impressive, and shows Honor's trying its utmost to provide users a compelling alternative to a Galaxy Z Fold 5 or Google Pixel Fold. If either Samsung or Google offered a foldable built like this, it'd be an instant recommendation. But since this is an Honor phone, there are two big issues to address. One is availability, since it's no good being a great phone if customers can't actually buy it. The other is software, as it's the main reason why previous Honor devices have not quite been able to crash the party for the best phones or best foldable phones around. We'll be considering both of these when we get a final version of the device to review.

Honor can be a right old flashy show-off sometimes, but we can get on-board with the foldable concept it aims for the in Honor Magic V2. It wants you to forget it’s even a foldable, at least half the time. Lower weight, a thinner frame and a very normal-shaped and fairly substantial front display means everyday interactions don’t feel they are struggling to get by, compromised. The Honor Magic V2 isn’t a revelation. Instead, it comes across a serious attempt to address the elements that turn prospective foldable phone buyers off. Well, apart from the cost, which is still something of an unknown. We’re betting it’ll undercut a Z Fold 5, though. It doesn’t get all the way there, but it’s good to see someone other than Samsung pushing at the boundaries of this relatively new area of phone tech.

The Honor Magic V2 looks to be a very successful foldable. However, that is only a subjective feeling after a first hands-on at the IFA 2023 in Berlin. The technical specs can largely keep up with the Samsung competition, and even surpass it in many aspects. Of course, the price and the camera quality will be a decisive factor. The battery life should also play a decisive role for the unusually thin foldable. As of now, the very thin and light form factor is impressive, despite being a foldable Android smartphone. I am inclined to award 4.5 stars, since the price will still be too high, as expected. However, we will talk more about this in our detailed review.

The slim body of 102.7mm and the light weight of 236.4g endow the folding screen mobile phone with the body of a bar machine. Honor Magic V2, Honor’s third folding flagship mobile phone, is more like a cross-generational product. Honor Magic V2 has the thinnest body and the best feel among folding screens of the same size. It can be described in one sentence. It is so light that you can control the shape of a straight-screen phone at will and so thin that you can enter and exit the jeans pocket. With dual 3840Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, dual LTPO adaptive refresh rate, and ultra-high brightness internal and external dual screens, the Honor Magic V2 shows the ultimate charm of internal and external dual screens with a display quality that exceeds the conventional screen.

The Honor Magic V2 is the new lightest and thinnest book-like foldable, measuring only 9.9mm when folded and 4.7mm when opened. Despite its thinness it packs a 5,000 mAh battery and 16GB of RAM with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The Honor Magic V2 also features a triple camera main system and two selfie cameras on each of the two screens. The two screens measures 6.4-inch on the outside and 7.9-inch inside.

We were left with mixed feelings when reviewing the global Magic Vs some time ago, and a lot of what we didn't quite like was related to its software. We can't know for sure if the V2 will have addressed those when it launches, nor do we know if it will matter - if the V2 does remain confined to the Chinese market, its faults and merits will largely remain a theoretical concept. But the V2 does improve on several areas we didn't really consider in dire need of improving. And we like where we've gotten. Perhaps the most important development is the weight and thickness reduction which is tangible and most appreciated and indeed makes the large foldable a more appealing handset for a wider range of consumers. The advancements in hinge design and battery technology have brought us here and we're hoping they make it to more devices from more manufacturers.

The Honor Magic Vs2 is Honor’s latest foldable smartphone. As you have seen by now, the Honor Magic Vs2 is both an upgrade and a downgrade compared to the previous Honor Magic V2. It has a better build quality that is not only lighter but also more durable, which is a clear upgrade. But there are downgrades as well, specifically in the chipset and camera department. The Honor Magic Vs2 is a league of its own and those downgrades are not downgrades and are justified for the price it asks for. Its only competition is with its previous models. There are no clear alternatives for this foldable smartphone unless you don’t mind paying more. In that case, the Samsung Galaxy Z fold 5 smartphone is an excellent alternative to choose from, but it also costs a little more. If pricing is not a concern, you may as well go with the Honor Magic V2. Anyway, the final decision is up to you, so choose accordingly.

El equipo alemán de diseño de productos de Porsche está trabajando con Honor para lanzar el primer smartphone de la compañía. Técnicamente, es casi idéntico al Magic V2, pero difiere principalmente en el material, el diseño, los accesorios incluidos y el precio.

The Porsche Design Honor Magic V2 RSR elevates the exceptional design of the Magic V2 to new heights while retaining its slim dimensions and superb performance with the inclusion of a more premium backplate, a slew of accessories as well as a useful stylus. While it does not come cheap, it’s nonetheless a luxuriously sophisticated status item for a discerning clientele. The elusively rare Porsche Design Honor Magic V2 RSR is a gorgeous status item, offering improved storage over the base model, a more premium chassis and a bundled stylus to take full advantage of the strengths of the base Magic V2 foldable design though it costs a pretty penny.

I absolutely love this phone. Is it perfect? Of course not. However, a lot of my complaints in this review of the Magic V2 RSR, I think I can overlook and use this as one of my daily drivers. I really like foldables, but some are just so far behind what HONOR and some of the other Far East companies have been able to do in such a short time. I mean, the Magic V2 RSR is just 2 grams heavier than the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which is incredible. On top of that, HONOR has included 1TB of storage here, making it a monster for taking photos and creating content. The only thing that’s going to be hard to look past is carrier compatibility here in the US. I’ve been using it on Google Fi for the past week or so, and so far, there have been no real issues with T-Mobile. But, if I go somewhere that doesn’t have the same LTE bands, this phone is going to basically become a paperweight. So, unfortunately, I can’t recommend it to Americans. But for those in Europe, it’s a really good option, especially if you’re a Porsche fan.

While the Honor Magic V2 RSR Porsche Design boasts a luxurious design, cutting-edge display, and powerful specs, its staggering price tag of 2700 euro raises significant questions for value-conscious buyers. This hefty cost puts it in a different league compared to the OnePlus Open, which offers similar flagship-level features at a significantly lower price point. For me, the main issue comes down to the software experience. That could all change in the coming months as Honor pushed out Magic OS 8.0 to this and other devices in its lineup, but I honestly wasn’t that impressed with the new build that I tested on the global variant of the Honor Magic 6 Pro. Therefore, unless you specifically value the Porsche Design branding, unique foldable form factor, and are comfortable with the high price tag, the Honor Magic V2 RSR Porsche Design might not be the most practical choice.

No, I don’t mean the car phone from the 80s – I’m talking about the product of the same collaborations that gave us the BMW Motorola Timeport of the 1990s; the Pininfarina Nextel i833 of the mid-oughts; and the Porsche Design BlackBerry and Huawei phones from the 20-teens! Truth be told, I found those earlier efforts mostly forgettable – because the phones they focused on were already standouts in design and capability, from brands well-established in their respective spaces. But Honor is another story entirely: a company that’s been trying to make a splash since 2016, but which has been held back by circumstances both within and beyond its control. So as Honor begins offering its groundbreaking super-slim Honor Magic V2 foldable to European buyers, teaming up with German design legend Porsche Design makes all the sense on the continent. (It’s just a shame all its design wins are only skin-deep.)

The Honor Magic V2 RSR is a gorgeous phone that’s a delight to live with. I haven’t always been the biggest fan of foldable designs, often feeling that the compromises outweigh the benefits, but I didn’t feel that here. It’s slim, lightweight, has two brilliant displays and takes great photos. Of course, the delayed launch means that some hardware is slightly outdated, but I didn’t feel that at all in use. It games well, multitasks like a champ and just feels snappy and responsive in general. All of this is true with the standard V2, but what this model offers is a lovely design, some very high-quality accessories, and a massive 1TB of storage. The big question mark is the price. Honor will be announcing the European pricing at its MWC keynote, and with the standard version already retailing for £1,699, it’s guaranteed to cost you a pretty penny. Those seeking value will certainly be better off with the regular Magic V2, but that’s not what the Porsche brand signifies.

Honor Magic V2 RSR is the global premium version of the Honor Magic V2 I first covered six months ago. At the time, it was by far the lightest and thinnest foldable. Now, six months later, the gap has closed a bit, but it's still leading the pack. The Honor Magic V2 RSR brings a 6.4-inch outside screen, 7.9-inch main folding screen, with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and a 5,000 mAh battery. There's also stylus support for both screens.

Suppose you’re after a foldable that can deliver the best that HONOR has been able to achieve and equip on a modern, premium, and one-of-a-kind foldable smartphone. In that case, the Porsche Design HONOR Magic V2 RSR is worth considering. Unfortunately, the company has still not released the official price, making it a little hard to recommend for the average user, but given the provided accessories and extra attention to detail, it likely won’t come cheap. For those looking for an equally good experience, the standard HONOR Magic V2 will likely be a better and more affordable foldable. At the same time, the Porsche Design edition will remain an exclusive for those looking for something truly exceptional.

Honor hasn't shared what the Magic V2 RSR will be available for — that information is set to be revealed at Mobile World Congress. That said, the phone retails for 15,999 RMB in China, or the equivalent of $2,225. Considering the standard version of the Magic V2 costs €1,999 ($2,132) in global markets, it's safe to assume that the V2 RSR will be closer to €2,299 ($2,475) once it starts hitting shelves outside China. That's a lot of money, but you're also getting what is arguably one of the best foldables today. The Magic V2 is a great phone in and of itself, and the Porsche Design additions take it to the next level.

This is a gorgeous edition of an already impressive phone, and it has powerful specifications to boot. The terabyte of onboard storage and 16GB of RAM matches the highest tier of the Honor Magic V2 that launched in Europe on January 26. That version of the phone starts at £1,699.99/€1,999.99. This special Porsche Edition of the phone's pricing will be announced at MWC at the end of February 2024, but it's likely to be higher than that. So then the question is, how does it measure up to other foldable phones? In terms of design, this phone is hard to beat. It's so ridiculously thin and light it's hard to recommend something else. Stylus compatibility is another bonus you don't get with every foldable. But in most ways, it still falls short of the OnePlus Open, which has better software, better cameras, and, by the way, is designed for U.S. customers with proper band support.

Despite its imperfections and slip-ups with regards to a few minute details, the Honor Magic V3 is ahead of the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 when it comes to feeling like a regular everyday phone when it's closed. Its lightweight, high-capacity battery, faster charging speeds and superior cameras across the full range give it an edge that makes it well worth considering. While aspects of the software fall behind the competition, the granular control it offers compensates for the inherent quirks that foldable phones come with regarding app support. There are also thoughtful, meaningful software improvements over the Magic V2.

Tradeshows are, and will continue to be this combination of the mess I like to avoid, and yet the kind of mess that makes you and I the nerds that we are. It's about as tiring as it is fun, and probably the best example of it is IFA, which I will refuse to call out in German because, well, I speak none. It's been 100 years of a tradeshow that's mostly famous for home appliances today, but which was known before by being inaugurated once by Albert Einstein, and because later it became Samsung's launch pad for years of Galaxy Notes and Wearables. It's hard for me to deny how much I love Berlin, how much I loved this year's show, and also the products that caught my eye most.

The slender build makes for a good headline but like clowns in a tiny car, there’s a surprising amount of quality features smushed into the Honor Magic V3’s svelte frame. Performance and battery life, while not quite on par with Samsung, are still very good for a foldable, and the cameras are versatile and effective. The displays are also both wonderful panels, with the external display in particular standing out – if you kept this phone folded and only used that screen, it would still be one of the best phones around.I still think the lack of optimisation for the full-screen format is a downside to foldables in general and MagicOS continues to mildly confound me but even with these issues in play, the Honor Magic V3 is a seriously impressive piece of kit.

The Honor Magic V3’s overall display performance was strong within our foldables category but was slightly behind its predecessor, the Magic V2, due to lower results in readability and color. The flicker-free screen’s strongest attribute was readability, with results that were on par with its closest competitors in indoor conditions. But the V3’s readability diminished considerably in outdoor use cases, particularly in sunlight. Luminance levels didn’t quite match those of the V2 in bright sunlight, and in high brightness mode, the device reached a peak luminance of 720 cd/m², compared to the V2’s 950 cd/m².

HONOR has done it yet again as the HONOR Magic V3 isn’t just a great foldable smartphone, it’s the best one in 2024 for sure. Sure, it has its quirks but considering that some of them can be remedied via software updates, the overall package is the most attractive one yet. The only reason why you wouldn’t get this foldable is if you’re loyal to a particular brand, not a fan of foldables, not a fan of Android, and / or the RM6,999 retail price is too heavy to bear.

Honor’s Magic V3 is undoubtedly a premium foldable phone and the super thin design means it has to be considered up there with the very best. It’s also very well priced, though cuts to other phones in the market mean you’ll need to make a conscious decision to choose it versus what else is around. I wasn’t expecting such a step up from the Magic V2 though – and that’s the real bonus, Honor has clearly decided it needs to try and outpace the competition, though it does need to do more to improve the multitasking in MagicOS.

Speaking of selling, the device costs £1,699 or €1,999, which works out to around $3,000 CAD. That puts the Honor Magic V3 a fair bit higher than the Z Fold 6 at $2,564, which has half as much storage in the starting model (256GB in the Fodl 6 to 512GB in the Magic). We’re in talks with Honor to get a review device, but until then, these are my thoughts on the Magic V3.

The Honor Magic V3 is an impressive triumph in engineering and performance, blending the current world’s slimmest and lightest foldable chassis with an excellent camera along with the might of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. It also packs good battery life and a bevy of Google Cloud AI-enhanced capabilities though its implementation of AI still needs a bit more polish. That minor quibble aside does not detract from the fact that this is one of the best foldables of 2024.

And I absolutely love this phone's in-hand feel, and excellent homescreen UI. I'm blown away by how light and thin this phone is.

Honor clearly knows what it's doing with foldables, and although the Magic V2 launched a year ago, it continues to be among the thinnest and lightest devices around. The ultra-thin design is a major differentiator, and it is the main reason why I used the Magic V2 more than just about any other foldable in 2024 — it doesn't feel cumbersome in the least. Honor is putting all the learnings from the Magic V2 toward its latest foldable, the Magic V3. The foldable retains the best features of its predecessor, but it is thinner and lighter, and that makes it even better to hold and use. Coming in at just 9.3mm folded and an incredible 4.4mm unfolded, the Magic V3 is unbelievably thin.

It’s important to note that we are writing this review before we know the price of the Magic V3. HONOR typically will not disclose the price until it is announced. Not giving it to press early with other embargo material. But we do know that it is priced at CNY9,999 in China for this particular storage size. That translates to around $1,403 USD or €1258 in Euro. So we’re expecting around €1300 in Europe. Which is far cheaper than a lot of the competitor devices we get further West. But regardless of price, this is still an incredible foldable to pick up. HONOR has continued to check just about every box for foldables lately.

The Magic V3 is easy to like, particularly for those who have been continually annoyed by the Samsung Z Folds' brick-like form factor (thick and narrow). Indeed, one of the Magic's major selling points is that you can forget it's a foldable and treat it like a regular bar phone, but still have the convenience of the large screen always in your pocket. The Magic has a class-leading cover display to help make the above case. The internal one, while not the brightest, has little to be ashamed of either. It doesn't hurt that Honor has gone to great lengths to ensure that everything is well protected, too.

At the end of the day, the Honor Magic V3 managed to complete its mission. It beats the Galaxy Z Fold 6 by a hair (0.2 in our rating system). There are arguments to be made in favor of both phones, but if you want the thinnest foldable on the market (at the moment), you should try and get the Honor Magic V3. We say "try" because availability is always a problem (as this thing is not officially sold in the US), but when there's a will, there's a way. The Magic V3 improves on every single area compared to its predecessor and finally achieves the foldable wet dream—it really feels like a normal phone when folded. More importantly, it can compete not only against other foldables, but also against conventional bar phones of a more rigid nature.

This is an absolute cracker of a phone, and Honor have very nearly knocked it out of the park with this one. Unfortunately, and as is often the case, the few snags are essentially software related. The random factory reset really dented my faith in the device, and as outstanding as many of the Magic V3's features are, reliability is the main thing you need from a device you rely so heavily on. The issue may be rare, and it's definitely something Honor could patch. As far as hardware goes, this is one of the best folders on the market at the moment. Honor's very smooth and rapidly growing ecosystem also adds to the appeal, even if signing up is a bit clunky for United States-based customers.

However, I still can’t recommend this as a viable alternative to other foldables on the market simply because the software and battery life wreck my enjoyment of using it. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 ($1899.99 at Samsung) is the most obvious competitor, and it has far wider availability, a resoundingly better Android experience, a longer software upgrade commitment, and demonstrably better AI-based features in the Galaxy AI portfolio. Meanwhile, the just-launched Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold ($1799 at Amazon) comes with what many would consider to be the best Android skin, the incredible Pixel Camera experience, way better AI, and deep integration with the wider Google ecosystem.

If you’re looking for the absolute best book-style foldable hardware out there and are willing to pay for it, yes. For basically everyone else, no. Price remains the big sticking point, while Honor’s take on Android feels cluttered and confusing at times, despite some useful AI features. However, you shouldn’t ignore the Magic V3’s strengths, of which there are plenty. The stunning thin and light design deserves lots of plaudits, while both displays and some cameras are a joy to use. You can also expect solid battery life, impressive fast charging and flagship-level performance, despite a slight drop-off on the internal screen. The Magic V3 remains too niche and expensive a device for most people to consider, but Honor has achieved something very special on the hardware side.

The Honor Magic V3 is a great smartphone, and an excellent foldable device. The software experience isn't entirely to my taste, but I recognize that that's a matter of personal preference -- in any case, the device is silky smooth in operation. There's growing competition from others like Google and OnePlus, but the sheer thinness of the Magic V3 has me preferring it over those other devices while out and about. It's £1,699 (roughly $2,237) price tag isn't cheap, but for the price you're getting an exemplary foldable phone experience.

I've fallen for the Honor Magic V3 in a way that I didn't for previous Honor foldables, despite their overall quality. This is a seriously good foldable, which makes it even worse that it's not available in the U.S. The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which prioritizes usability and design polish in a similar way to the Magic V3, is the closest equivalent to the Honor foldable for American buyers. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and its AI and stylus support could also appeal to users who want a pocketable productivity machine, even if the hardware's getting a bit stale. The OnePlus Open, despite being a year old, remains a better foldable overall thanks to its aggressive pricing, strong design and ingenious approach to multitasking.

When it comes to foldable hardware, Honor has a significant lead with the Magic V3. Last year’s Magic V2 was already thinner and lighter than all the 2024 foldables we’ve seen so far, but the Magic V3 takes that even further. It really does feel like a regular smartphone when folded, and it makes all the difference to everyday use. Despite its svelte dimensions, the Magic V3 boosts durability with improved screen protection and water resistance, and even manages to pack in a 5150mAh battery that’s larger than any other foldable right now. That, combined with the performant-yet-efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 means the phone can last all day, with around seven hours of screen-on time before needing a top-up. The cameras are also pretty good for a foldable.

I've been using the Honor Magic V3 everyday for the past six weeks. I first purchased my own China unit for use for three weeks, and then the last three weeks I've been using this global version.

Honor’s Magic V3 is undoubtedly a premium foldable phone and the super thin design means it has to be considered up there with the very best. It’s also very well priced, though cuts to other phones in the market mean you’ll need to make a conscious decision to choose it versus what else is around.

We don’t have a confirmed price or release date for the Honor Magic V3 just yet, so we’ll need to wait and see how it compares to the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, which has gone up in price once again this year. The Magic V2 was priced at £1,699, coming in between the ultra-pricey Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Google Pixel Fold (both £1,749 at launch) and the more affordable OnePlus Open (£1,599), so I expect that we’ll see the Magic V3 aiming for a similar position: not matching OnePlus on price but still undercutting the big players. And honestly, simply avoiding a price increase could be enough to give the Honor Magic V3 a distinct advantage this year. The slim build is a magic trick that no other brand has been able to replicate, the camera specs are massively improved over last year and missing elements from the V2 like water resistance and wireless charging are rectified here.

It basically feels like the iPhone 15 Pro Max when folded, but with rounder curvier edges. There's a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and two gorgeous screens, and a capable triple lens camera system too. I got the phone from Trinity Electronics in Hong Kong, which can ship worldwide.

The Honor Magic V3 is the world's thinnest foldable phone, at just over 9mm when folded up. This bendy blower has officially launched in China but should go global in 2024 too, boasting upgraded camera tech and SD 8 Gen 3 smarts. Here's the Honor Magic V3 goss, and check out my review of the V2 here on Tech Spurt! I'm also testing the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, more on that soon. Somehow this third version is even skinnier than the wafer-thin Gen 2 model. We've got a bigger battery despite the size decrease, while the Honor Magic V3 also packs in Qualcomm's latest flagship platform. So gaming should be a breeze. The camera is a triple lens setup; this folding phone should be good for snapping everyday photos, if the V2 is anything to go by.

The Honor Magic V Flip stands out from the rest of the competition with its unique cover screen. The cover screen will work similarly to the primary display. Besides, the apps, notifications, music, and other activities are properly customized so that you don’t face any hindrance. Moreover, the device includes good enough performance, stunning camera results, and decent battery life. It could be considered one of the flip phones of the 2024. However, there’s no confirmation about the global version from Honor, and it’s more like a China-exclusive phone from the outer shell. But, if there is any update regarding the official global release, we will let you know.

It features the industry’s largest 4.0-inch external screen, deeply integrating more than 40 third-party apps, making the small folding external screen more than just a flashy “little vase.” In actual use, you can treat this external screen as the main screen, allowing you to watch Douyin, chat on WeChat, and shop on Taobao, performing all the functions of the internal screen. Honor has also introduced a cute pet desktop theme on this extra-large secondary screen, enabling users to interact with the screen by poking it, which adds a warm touch to the small foldable phone.
