The Snapdragon-powered Surface Pro has a handful of new features, but delivers the same, great experience. Right now, the 13-inch version is $300 off ahead of Black Friday.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 11 is a premium machine with great build quality, snappy performance, and long battery life. If you want to transform this thing into a full-blown 2-in-1 device, you have to buy the pricey external keyboard. If you need a stylus, this will add a few more bucks to the hefty end price. The IPS screen (LP129WT342166 (LGD077B)) of our “laptop” has one important advantage over most OLEDs and that’s the lack of PWM usage. The panel is impressively bright since it nears 600 nits of max brightness in both SDR and HDR modes. The content creators out there should be happy because of the 99% sRGB coverage and the great average dE result of 0.9 when our “Design and Gaming” profile is applied.

The Surface Pro has always had the makings of a great business device, with all the power of a laptop, the portability of a tablet, the flexibility of a 2-in-1 convertible. What it hasn't had, though, is the internal hardware with the right mix of processing power and battery life. Now it has. The new Surface Pro is faster than many mainstream laptops, and will last significantly longer without a recharge. And while not every Windows application will run on ARM64 hardware, the list is getting shorter, and the most popular productivity and creative apps won't give you any problems. The Surface Pro 11 won't be for everyone, and it gets very expensive in its higher configurations, especially when you factor in the price of the Pro Flex keyboard. Yet it's a superb ultraportable computer, and one that feels like it's been built for what's happening in IT right now.

If you’re wavering, my advice would be to consider a regular laptop before buying the Surface Pro 11. All the alternatives I’ve mentioned in this review are cheaper – including the M3 MacBook Air – and you won’t have to purchase an extra keyboard to make them usable. However, that’s not to denigrate Microsoft’s achievement here; the Surface Pro 11 is unequivocally a fantastic laptop. As with all the recent Snapdragon machines we’ve looked at, its battery life is stunning. General performance is snappy, it will run most software without issue and it’s even a little upgradeable. It’s a fantastic alternative to the iPad Pro and it’s cheaper, too. The move to Snapdragon chips has been consolidated, nay strengthened, by the move to Snapdragon chips and this remains the best 2-in-1 detachable Windows laptop you can currently buy. If that’s what you want, go buy one.

Microsoft's Surface Pro 11th edition is an awesome computer for professional artists who want a high-performance machine with a brilliant display. The era of Windows on Arm laptops is finally here, and I can't wait to be a part of it. Prices for the device start at $999.99. My review unit with the 12-core Snapdragon X Elite chipset, 16GB of RAM, and 1TB SSD costs $1,699. However, it's important to note that those prices are without accessories like the Flex keyboard. They cost extra, and they're not exactly cheap, with the Flex keyboard and Slim Pen combo running $449.

That means that at the absolute cheapest price with just the $199.99 Surface Pro keyboard (which isn’t wireless), you’re looking at $1,649.98 for the Surface Pro (11th Edition). The base Surface Laptop, on the other hand, is $1,449.99 for the exact same specs, just in that traditional clamshell form factor. So right off the hop, unless you need the 2-in-1 form factor offered by the Surface Pro, you can save yourself at least $200 going with the Surface Laptop. The Snapdragon X chips offer tons of potential, while the Surface Pro (11th Edition) bundles it all in a familiar and versatile form factor, making for a compelling overall package that’s great for the following people:

The Paint and Photos apps are also loaded with AI-based features for creating and editing images. The options to remove background distractions and use blur effects to simulate portrait mode were useful; the styling options, which transform a photo into an alternate style (Impressionist, Anime, and so on) feel gimmicky. The real question is whether those features are powerful enough to make you switch from your current image-processing tool to one of Microsoft's built-in options. History says that's a pretty big ask. Even if you avoid the AI features completely, though, there's more than enough power in this budget PC. Plus, as long as your apps and hardware requirements aren't exotic, you'll appreciate its cool, quiet operation.

The Surface Pro 11th Edition is the fulfillment of a long journey for this line of devices. It’s always been a device that was more about what it could be than what it’s been. But now, the Surface Pro is not just the best Windows 2-in-1 ever made, it makes a compelling case for the category as a whole. If this doesn’t inspire a larger movement in the ecosystem, nothing will. The only real downside is the price. The $999 base configuration sounds great, but you’ll need to add on the $140 keyboard at the very least. Most people may even opt for the $280 add-on that includes both the keyboard and Surface Slim Pen. That being said, Microsoft says it sells them separately to allow people to reuse older Type Cover keyboards.

The Microsoft Surface Pro has always been a hit among a certain subset of dedicated 2-in-1 users, but this latest device holds more promise than I was expecting. Its style, robustness, versatility, and brand new high-efficiency chip make this the strongest challenger to the iPad Pro I've ever seen.

Comentario
