Análisis para el Motorola Moto G Play 2024

One of my primary phones is the OnePlus Open, but I will never take the $1,699 foldable with me when I run, ride my bike, or head to the beach. In situations like those, a backup like the 2024 Moto G Play is perfect for maintaining communications while having a battery that easily gets me through a full day. The Moto G Play isn't going to blow anyone away with its performance, but it feels good in the hand, offers handy Moto customizations, and serves as a solid budget device.

When I think of budget-friendly Android phones, I immediately go to Motorola’s Moto G series. That’s partly because my first smartphone reviews for Android Authority were of classic Moto G devices, but it’s also become one of the most consistently updated Android series over its decade of existence. And each time Motorola trots out its refreshes (outside of the year it tried to introduce the one-and-done Moto G Pure), the Moto G Play has been first in line. It’s the most affordable and modestly spec’d device in the lineup, and it’s hoping to prove that 4G-only devices still have a place in 2024. Let’s see if there’s any truth to the idea. Although not a perfect copy, the Moto G Play (2024) takes most of its design cues from Motorola’s top-tier Edge lineup.

We all think that the best smartphones in 2024 are the most expensive. But what happens if I told you there's a smarphone that costs 1/10th the price of some flagships but gives 95% of their features? Well, say hello to a shockingly good option for almost everyone.

If you stack this phone up against more expensive devices, and I'm not even talking $1000 phones, but some as much as $325, like the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G, you'll get a more powerful and complete smartphone experience. But for $150 and even looking at $200, it's a pretty solid device. Motorola made the right concessions in building a budget smartphone and learned from its mistakes in the 2023 variant. For someone on a tight budget or looking for a first phone for their kid, the Motorola Moto G Play (2024) can fit that bill. The phone isn't going to win any performance battles or wow everyone with its photography prowess. But it has great battery life, runs mostly stutter-free, and has a very serviceable camera. Pair those features with Motorola's clean version of Android 13, and you end up with a reliable smartphone for less than a weekly trip to the grocery store.

The Motorola Moto G Play (2024) smartphone possesses a unique set of features and hardware that make it better than all other smartphones in the same price range. The US market is a tricky one to crack but we believe the smartphone has a real chance, especially at that price tag. Its pros include the design, display, camera, and even battery. But it has one major con and that’s the lack of 5G connectivity, which can be a deal breaker for some users. But at this specific price tag, you not are likely to get a 5G phone. So, if 5G is not a priority for you, this smartphone will provide a lot and it will be more worth spending. But if 5G is a priority for you and you are looking for an alternative smartphone then you will have to spend some extra cash to get the Samsung Galaxy A15 5G which comes with 5G support and also a better display, chipset, camera, and even battery. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.

My time with the Motorola Moto G Play (2024) was a bit of a mixed experience. For a $150 device, the design was quite pleasing to the eye, the display was decent, and it offered fantastic battery life. The overall performance was all over the place. The device can handle the basics, and from my gaming tests, it can do a bit more. It just doesn't do it smoothly. The constant lag caused the device to feel a bit jittery and it was a jarring experience overall. The Moto G Play (2024) is quite the upgrade from the Moto G Play (2023) edition. It has a much-improved processor, double the internal storage, and an extra GB of RAM. The Moto G Play (2024) even gives more expensive devices like the Moto G Stylus a run for its money. Motorola is aiming this device at the ultra-budget shopper or as a first-time smartphone for young kids.

We test a lot of thousand dollar smartphone flagships. But today we move to the opposite end of the spectrum and test a budget $149 dollar smartphone. This little android phone has a single camera on the back and appears to be entirely made form plastic. BUT has a 1tb SD Card slot - which is rather incredible. A full size 6.5 inch 90hz refresh rate screen all while only costing 149 bucks?!

The 2024 Moto G Play offers several impressive upgrades over last year's model, including faster performance and more storage—and it costs $20 less. Unfortunately, the lack of 5G connectivity and the short-term software support hold the phone back. If you're willing to spend an extra $50, we highly recommend the Samsung Galaxy A15 5G, our Editors' Choice winner. It offers better cameras, a higher-resolution screen, and longer battery life, as well as a much more generous commitment to software and security updates. It's pricier, but almost certain to last you longer.
