One could argue that the Red Magic Nova is a multi-purpose device. Sure, it's labeled as a gaming tablet and has all the features to prove it - high-refresh-rate display, a premium and comfortable build, plenty of gaming-oriented software features, it's compatible with plenty of gaming accessories and plenty of horsepower under the hood. Not to mention, it's very good at sustaining high performance over long periods of time, and it's one of the fastest-charging tablets on the market. However, it could be argued that it could also be a nice productivity tool.

The RedMagic Nova is quite an easy recommendation, primarily because it’s the only product of its kind in the segment. For just $499, you can tap into the full potential of a top-tier Qualcomm silicon, which is half the competition’s current ask for such a facility. The build is great, and gaming enthusiasts will appreciate a healthy bunch of innovative features. It acts more like a mobile gaming console if you also have a larger screen at your disposal and love emulation gaming. The RedMagic Nova is also the fastest-charging tablet, and the heat dissipation kit is reliable. The UI is also clean. The only downsides are crushed color output on the screen, garish software design, and heat generation courtesy of its performance profiles.

You should absolutely buy the Redmagic Nova gaming tablet, with a few caveats. For starters, go for the upgraded version. You'll want the 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Secondly, remember this is a gaming tablet meant for indoor use. That's probably not too much of a deal-breaker if you plan to use it indoors most of the time, but you'll also want a case for it. At $499 ($649 for the upgraded version), you're getting one heck of a piece of hardware from a company that seems laser-focused on gaming. Everything about the Redmagic Nova is perfect for gamers. And thanks to apps like Steam Link and the Xbox game cloud, this tablet is almost ready to replace your console and maybe even your PC.

Not content with all but cornering the market in affordable gaming phones, Nubia has now turned its attention to addressing an even more niche market: that of the gaming tablet. Following the limited launch of the Red Magic Tablet in 2023, the Red Magic Nova Tablet stands as Nubia’s first globally available gaming tablet, and is positioned as a full-sized tablet with top-level gaming performance at a mid-market price. The Nova largely delivers on that promise, offering a level of gaming performance that punches well above its weight.

The RedMagic Nova is built for gamers. Its powerful Qualcomm chip, ample memory, responsive screen, and effective cooling system make for a smooth gaming experience, while RedMagic's helpful software puts powerful gaming tools at your fingertips. That said, its screen could be brighter and its battery could last longer. If you want a dedicated gaming tablet, the RedMagic Nova outperforms most similarly priced Android slates, making it your best choice. Those seeking an Android tablet more for everyday use will be better served by the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE+, which has longer battery life and comes with a productivity-enhancing S Pen stylus for $100 more.

The RedMagic Nova is extremely easy to recommend; it’s simultaneously a great value option and also the fastest Android gaming slate that money can buy. If you’re looking for an affordable way to take your mobile gaming to a larger display, look no further. That said, the Nova isn’t perfect. An OLED panel would have been nice to see, and some extra brightness wouldn’t go amiss. My main gripe, though, is the standby time. If you leave the tablet unused for a few days you can expect a much lower state of charge than when you left it. At least it charges super quick. Its closest competitors are the OnePlus Pad 2, and the 10th-Gen iPad. Both are similarly priced, and both are likely better options for casual users, with a more robust set of accessories to enable productivity on the go. However, the RedMagic Nova isn’t directly trying to compete with those; it’s about gaming above all else, and in that department, neither comes close.

The thing about the Nova Gaming Tablet is it occupies an odd space. It's a gaming-focused tablet, which means it's less portable than a smartphone and less powerful than a computer. Not necessarily ideal for gaming on the go, but also not a substitute for a modern video game console (except maybe the Switch) or gaming computer. Of course, that processing power can also come in handy for non-gaming apps, so it might also appeal to graphic designers, animators, etc. That being said, the hardware is impressive for what it is. The tablet runs really graphics-intensive games very well, doesn't feel like it's overheating while doing so (thanks to that fan), and you'd likely have to keep playing — or working — for a dozen hours or more before needing to even think of seeking out a place to recharge.

Qualcomm Adreno 750:
