But it’s got an Ultrabook-y vibe to it. Like its smaller counterparts in the Blade line, the Pro 17 is chic and professional, lacking the bells and whistles you might expect to see on a large gaming laptop. The chassis is all black and all aluminum, with Razer’s logo adding a sleek splash of green to the lid. The keyboard, while colorful, is classy and subdued.

The Razer Blade Pro 17 has some of the strongest performance in its class, but it's held back by its heavy build and short battery life – but if that doesn't bother you, there's a lot to love.

I liked the Blade Pro 17 last year, and I like it even more this year. Razer not only kept the best parts of the laptop the same, but they also updated the hardware specs and screen, as well as the keyboard's layout. As a result, this outperforms the previous generation by a fair margin, even if it's not the fastest implementation of the 8Core i7 platform, and remains one of the better-balanced 17-inchers in its portable niche. The short battery life and the steep pricing might hold some of you back, though.

The Razer Blade Pro 17 is coming into 2020 with a take-no-prisoners attitude. The laptop is packed with plenty of powerful specs that will allow it to go toe-to-toe with its main competitors, if not surpass them. And I can’t stress enough how gorgeous the new panels are.

The 2020 Razer Blade Pro 17 is essentially a larger, more powerful version of its 15-inch sibling. And that makes it one of highest-performing, most portable premium 17-inch gaming laptops out there.

The Blade Pro 17 deftly straddles the line between thin-and-light 17-inch general-purpose power models like the Dell XPS 17 9700 ($2,940 at Dell, Inc.) and hulking, steroidal gaming systems like the Acer Predator Helios 700 and Gigabyte Aorus 17x ($3,982 at Amazon). While it may look like a Dark Side MacBook Pro 16, it's not really a competitor; it's much heavier and with far shorter battery life thanks to its more gaming-focused components. But its big, high-resolution color-accurate Adobe RGB screen and good performance in applications and games that use both the CPU and graphics processor for optimal performance -- think Shadow of the Tomb Raider, 3DS Max, Maya and so on -- and full set of connections make it particularly well suited for gaming, graphics and photo editing.

The laptop is packed with plenty of powerful specs, including an 8-core Intel 10th Gen H Series CPU and Nvidia Super GPU, which allow it to go toe-to-toe with its main competitors. The laptop also managed to deliver great endurance on our battery test. And I can’t stress enough how gorgeous the new panels are. Is the price tag a bit hefty? Yes, but that’s to be expected from a premium gaming laptop, especially one that’s being positioned as a competent workstation.
