A refreshed design does not make a true upgrade. New features, new technology, and lifestyle-enhancing alternations do, and the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra has all of this along with seemingly every other feature or specification bump you could want from a new phone. Not only is it worth buying if you don’t already own a Galaxy Ultra phone, but I’d even say it’s worth buying if you have a Galaxy S23 Ultra, provided you can make peace with the price increase. It’s really that good. Obviously, you don’t need to upgrade your Galaxy S23 Ultra (it’s still excellent), but it’s heartening to discover Samsung hasn’t just sent out a vague refresh of its most expensive non-folding phone this year, which is really what it did with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 over the Galaxy Z Fold 4.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max is a near 7-inch beast like Samsung's Galaxy S24 Ultra, with a camera that also prefers to brighten images. However, only one of these almighty 2024 phones offers AI features right now, while the camera tech, gaming experience, battery life etc depends on your choice. So which is the best smartphone for you? Well, Apple's iPhone 16 Pro Max will apparently gain Intelligence later this year, but for now it's the Samsung S24 Ultra that offers clever AI tools like circle to search, website summarisation, auto message replies and Gemini support. While the iPhone 16 Pro Max serves up a new camera button, the Galaxy S24 Ultra once again has that familiar S Pen tucked into its bottom.

The Google Pixel 9 Pro XL is a contender for best Android phone this year, even if you don't plan to use its on-device AI features. While the new model is Google's most expensive phone (barring foldables) yet, the price bump is justified by improvements in aspects that traditionally held the Pixel line back, such as charging speed, performance, and build quality. With the reintroduction of an XL model this year, the smaller Pixel 9 Pro should appeal to users who want a more comfortable device without compromising on specs and camera hardware. And if both phones are out of your budget, but you want the core features, consider the cheaper Pixel 9.

For video recording, you can go up to 8K video, but probably of more use is the ability to record 4K at up to 120fps, as well as the ability to make existing video slow-motion, thanks to AI. One thing I’d really love to see is an improvement in shutter speeds, and shutter lag. There were multiple times where I missed the shot because the subject moved, due to shutter lag, or ended up with a blurred photo as the shutter speed wasn’t quick enough to freeze the motion. Perhaps this will be possible with a future update. However, saying all this, for those that simply want the best camera phone out there, from a mainstream brand, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is without doubt, one of the best camera phones currently available.

The biggest strike against the X100 Ultra is its China-only release, though, and that’s a shame when you’ve got such a premium package. Starting at 6,499 yuan (~$898) for the 12GB/256GB model, the phone is reasonably priced for what you get in its local market, though if the €1,199 price of the vivo X100 Pro is anything to go by, it’s unlikely the Ultra would’ve been quite so affordable if it had dropped in other regions.

Can a phone you probably haven't heard of beat Samsung at its own game? Honor is gunning for the Galaxy S24 Ultra with its latest flagship, the Magic 6 Pro. It's been on perma-discount, pretty much, since it launched earlier this Spring in the countries where it's available. That's £400 (or around $500) less than the S24 Ultra for a phone that, on paper, is just as impressive -- and even beats Samsung in places -- with more storage, larger camera sensors, faster charging and a bigger battery.

Having lived with the Galaxy S24 Ultra for a full week I'm totally sold and, frankly, more than a little bit in love with this flagship handset. I think Samsung's design and feature advancements compared to the older model elevate it to whole new heights, placing it firmly as best-of-best when it comes to Android phones. Sure, the high asking price (thankfully there's been no year-on-year increase, though), the AI photo features not being perfect yet, the physical wide-body nature of the design being a bit anti-one-handed, and the generally dull colour options are minor weak spots – but the positives so heavily outweigh these foibles that I really don't mind.

Other AI features include live translation where the Samsung phone app can translate live voice calls. To make it work, you select your language and the other person’s language. After that, the incoming voice is translated into text on your screen and can be read aloud as well. This happens entirely on the smartphone. My experience with this feature is mixed, to be fair. Similarly, the S24 Ultra can summarize any long texts via Samsung Notes. The Galaxy AI can also translate text, format it, and correct grammar and spelling. However, you need to use the Samsung Internet browser to summarize online articles. Additionally, the Voice Recorder app can transcribe recordings into text that can be summarized. This works quite well, to be honest. Among a long list of AI features, the most entertaining has to be instant slow motion.

If you've fallen in love with the way Gorilla Armor battles reflections but must ensure your screen remains unblemished, the answer is an easy yes. Aside from the slightly different feel and smudge retention, this screen protector perfectly mimics the glass beneath. If the anti-reflective coating doesn't matter to you, or you need something even more durable, a tempered glass screen protector might be better.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra display’s marked improvements over its predecessor the S23 Ultra, particularly in readability and touch, put the latest flagship nearly at the top of our Display protocol ranking. The Galaxy S24 Ultra led all devices in readability, where it achieved a top score thanks to its impressive luminance outdoors and low reflectance in challenging environments. In our tests under bright sunlight, the device achieved a measured peak brightness of 2572 nits (close to the 2600 advertised), which is significantly above the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s 1750 nits. Moreover, the addition of an anti-reflective glass serves to deepen contrast to make the images more vivid in challenging conditions. These combined performances mean that in direct sunlight, it’s not necessary to find a shaded area or to cover the screen with one’s hand to be able to see and read what is on the display.

Reviewing the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra after some long-term personal testing, including camera improvements, AI shenanigans and gaming performance. There's lots to love with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, from the battery life and Genshin Impact skills to that improved camera zoom. But is it the best 2024 smartphone vs Xiaomi 14 Ultra, Nubia Z60 Ultra etc? This near 7-inch titan is certainly one of the biggest phones around, boasting a crisp QHD AMOLED screen and beefy stereo speakers. Gamers will enjoy the smooth performance on intensive titles like Genshin, while Samsung's S Pen is once again stashed inside the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Upgrades vs the S23 Ultra and S24 Plus include that Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 brain (a definite boost in the UK), as well as the powerful camera setup.

So far I’ve written 5,000 words in this review about the Galaxy S24 Ultra. And if you’re still undecided about whether you should buy it or not, well here’s one last thing to consider. Samsung has knocked it out of the park in terms of battery life, software updates, AI features, the camera, and the hardware. The only thing that might be holding you back is the $100 price increase of the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Which does sting a bit, and honestly, if you have a Galaxy S23 Ultra or Galaxy S22 Ultra, I wouldn’t recommend upgrading right away. For one, the S23 Ultra is getting the AI features anyway. Other than that, there’s not much change year-over-year. But if you’re coming from a Galaxy S20 or S21, you’ll see a huge change here.

With a DXOMARK Audio score of 139, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra performed very well in our tests, and was very little changed from the S23 Ultra’s audio performance. The built-in speakers delivered good overall sound quality with a nice timbre and a deep and powerful bass, making the Samsung a great option for listening to music, watching movies or gaming alike. Recording results were best with the main camera, but the S24 Ultra also did a decent job with the selfie camera. Recordings with the memo app were limited by the default memo setting. Overall, the built-in microphones delivered good results. The audio zoom feature was capable of reducing background noise and focusing on the main subject. It might come with a very hefty price tag, but then there is no Android smartphone – perhaps no smartphone – that can do as much as the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Galaxy S24 Ultra S24 Ultra does. There are other phones that can deliver the same processor to you at a lower price. The Pixel 8 Pro can even boast of matching the S24 Ultra’s cameras and has some smarts of its own. Still, the combination of a big display, big cameras, S-Pen, and seamless connectivity with external displays is pretty difficult, if not impossible, to match. The Galaxy S24 Ultra can work as a small tablet, a scribble pad, a full-on digital camera, a transcriber, a video editor, a transcriber and translator, and even as a PC when connected to a display. And it wears all of these hats with equal ease. Yes, it is big and has a big price tag to match, but then this is the Big Boss of Android.

Anyone using a Galaxy S23 Ultra right now shouldn't bother upgrading. The new anti-glare filter is incredible, and I hope to see it on more Samsung phones in the future, but S23 Ultra owners can at least partly replicate the effect with an anti-glare screen protector for the time being. The upgraded PWM rate on the S24 Ultra is a massive deal for the future and makes it possible for some flicker-sensitive folks to use a Samsung phone — something that hasn't been possible for a long time. You may be okay without it if the Galaxy S23 Ultra's screen doesn't give you eye aches or headaches. But there's something to be said about Samsung's value here, despite the price. A $1,300 starting price is hard to stomach, but it's also the first time Samsung has promised to keep the phone updated and relevant for seven years.

Unlike past years, where the chipset was consistent across three models, this year’s Galaxy S24 series only sees the Galaxy S24 Ultra getting Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for its chipset. As it stands, the Galaxy S24+ cannot become a true “no stylus” alternative for the Galaxy S24 series, since it’s not the same processor (Exynos 2400). As far as we can tell during our trials, all three models are equally quick at handling Galaxy AI-related tasks. If your only concern is the number of milliseconds it needs to edit your photos or translate your calls, the three phones are all viable choices. Unfortunately, a hands-on session also meant that we didn’t get to see benchmarks, so we can’t tell you if the performance differences between Exynos or Snapdragon chipsets are apparent in other areas (like bootup, gaming, etc.).

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is a powerful phone with a lot to offer, but it comes with a hefty price tag, both literally and figuratively. It is Rs 10,000 more expensive than last year’s Galaxy S23 Ultra at launch. But the S24 Ultra does not justify the higher price and is at the border for being value-for-money. Even if you think the AI is worth the extra money, let me tell you that Galaxy AI is available across the Galaxy S24 devices. Oh, and given the sky-high price of the Galaxy S24 Ultra with 1TB of storage, it might be worth looking at a foldable Android phone as a better use of your money. Both the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 ($1799.99 at Samsung) and OnePlus Open ($1499.99 at OnePlus) are excellent options, with the former offering many of the same software features as the Galaxy S24 Ultra. It won’t receive as many updates, nor does it have the same slate of AI features, but it lets you customize the internal and external displays independently — something most foldable phones ignore. The OnePlus Open is one of those foldables, but it makes up for the limitation with a much more usable cover display and lighter overall construction. Should you choose to venture outside of Android altogether, Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max ($1199 at Amazon) is the one iPhone worth considering. It’s the only device to outpace the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in our Geekbench 6 scores, and Apple’s top-tier flagship remains the camera to beat when it comes to shooting smartphone video.

The camera system is great on most occasions but is inconsistent in low-light situations. You can get a day and a half's usage out of the Galaxy S24 Ultra on a single charge, making it one of the best in the business.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is the best phone you can buy right now from a specifications perspective. Every element is top notch and its performance is unmatched based on the flagship phones we’ve reviewed recently. As has become the case with the top Galaxy S models each year, the S24 Ultra features a stunning and large display, equally sizeable and long-lasting battery, and one of the best camera experiences we’ve encountered in some time. While we’re effusive with our praise of the phone, the exact same compliments can be paid to last year’s S23 Ultra, and this is where our issues come into play. Quite simply, Galaxy AI does not distinguish the real-world performance of the S24 Ultra compared to its predecessor.

Without much fuss around that subject, the S24 Ultra is one of the longest-lasting Androids you can buy, and even if the big names from China charge three times as fast, the Pixel and the iPhone don't. An always-with-you stylus remains elusive outside of the Samsung flagship, and you may not know you want or need one until you've had one. The camera system is also mostly a source of satisfaction. The rethinking of the telephoto setup is a forward step that adds another layer of versatility. The rest of the rear modules we'd almost call stale next to what we're seeing from Chinese brands and their impressive hardware, but Samsung has managed to squeeze out such performance out of these otherwise uninspired bits that it doesn't feel like we're getting less than what is right. In the end, Samsung's ultimate smartphone comes easily recommended.

Priced at Rs 1,29,999, the Galaxy S24 Ultra may not come cheap for a flagship device, but it’s not the most expensive one either. However, it embodies everything you’d expect from a high-end, flagship smartphone. Even without the AI enhancements, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is a solid device with its top-notch display, premium build, and outstanding camera hardware. It’s undoubtedly a contender for the best premium phone of 2024. Samsung has set a high standard that will be difficult to surpass. For those who can afford it and want the latest and greatest that tech has to offer, a new way to experience a smartphone, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is a worthy investment. Samsung has once again raised the bar for premium Android phones and set a new benchmark.

Stripped bare of its AI promise, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra comes across as an incremental upgrade as compared to its predecessor — a flagship with a flat screen and an upgraded chip. And speaking of AI features, it’s not as if those are the exclusive domain of the S24 Ultra. Its own siblings, the Galaxy S24+ and the S24 offer the same features and might come across as better value for money, depending upon what you’re looking for. The Google Pixel 8 Pro (review) also offers quite a few AI features and in some cases actually works better than the Galaxy. S24 Ultra. Apart from the Pixel 8 Pro, other phones in contention include the likes of the Vivo X100 Pro (review) and the OnePlus 12 (review). However, the Galaxy S24 Ultra still stands out as the most accomplished if all its features and capabilities are taken into consideration. Of course, it still has to contend with the venerable iPhone 15 Pro Max.

The short answer is no, not really, unless you really like new toys like me and can get a good trade-in deal with the cashback/discount incentives on top, but before doing that, consider that a lot of the One UI 6.1 additions, including some AI features, should be coming to the S23 series as well later this year. This might even include camera improvements, so it might be worth holding onto those S23 Ultras a bit longer. The only downside here is that the S23 series promised four years of updates, with a year already gone, that leaves three more Android versions to go, whilst the S24 will see a further four beyond that point. For me, the upgrade came with a saving of nearly £950 after accounting for all the discounts and selling the free bundled Galaxy Watch6, and trading in my S23 Ultra to a third party for a higher figure than what Samsung was offering. The new camera improvements, screen performance, and seven years of updates sold it for me.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is an exceptionally good, but boring phone. The return of a flat display is welcome, but the design is dated and lacks inspiration. Granted, most people put a case on their phone, hiding the design. The camera takes perfectly acceptable photos, but it does tend to overexpose some areas, so just be mindful of that. And the new AI features are convenient -- useful, even -- but not a big enough reason to upgrade to the S24 Ultra, especially if you have an older Galaxy device that will get them via an update. Performance, display and battery life are the S24 Ultra's killer features, and as is usually the case for Samsung's flagship phone, other phone makers are going to have their work cut out for them in 2024 if they want to compete with Samsung. The S24 Ultra sure looks like it's the Android phone to beat this year.

Its arsenal of uniquely equipped clever AI features catapulted it to the forefront, leaving the competition trailing behind.

Great question. The obvious answer is business people with a decent chunk of disposable income and a need for productivity apps and devices (but not to the level of the Galaxy Z Fold range). It’s for people who want the absolute best of what Samsung has to offer. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Galaxy S24 Ultra S24 Ultra is actually more than just the best of what Samsung has to offer. In my opinion, it’s the best of what Android phones are currently capable of. Yes, there are some significant drawbacks resulting from some of the generative AI features, but you can also just not use them. For people upgrading, if you have an S22 Ultra or newer, you don’t need this phone. People with an S23 Ultra basically already have most of what makes this phone great. The S23 Ultra was basically the S22 Ultra. If you have a Note phone and want to upgrade to something like the Note, then this is the phone to buy.

Bottom line, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is a very, very good phone with powerful hardware, good camera, and dependable battery. Plus, it now has that 7 year software upgrade promise, so it's really easy to recommend it, even at its high entry price. If you are still looking to save an extra buck, we wouldn't say that the Galaxy S23 Ultra is out of the picture yet. In fact, S23 Ultra owners probably can stave off the "upgrade crave" for now. You will miss out on some new AI features, but then again — these are only now coming in, there will be more meaningful upgrades to look forward to in the near future.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra continues to be Samsung’s best-in-class flagship smartphone. This has been a steady pace for several generations, offering the latest and most powerful mobile chipset, material design, display technologies, and camera performance. While some may look at this year’s incremental upgrade as a bit of underwhelming (compared to the Galaxy S23 Ultra), the Galaxy S24 Ultra is leaps better if you are upgrading from the S22 series or earlier. Besides, no other smartphone manufacturer has a contender quite like the S24 Ultra, not even Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max. With the starting price of Php 84,990 (for the 12GB + 256GB), it’s indeed a hefty price tag (that’s Php3k more than the S23 Ultra when it came out last year). You still get the best smartphone Samsung can offer. Given the large, beautiful display, impressive performance, and powerful cameras, that’s money well-spent.

Despite all its good points, the Galaxy S24 Ultra can be a little pricey. What if you want flagship performance at a lower price point and don’t require the S Pen, the new titanium frame and the insane telephoto cameras? Well, then, the Samsung Galaxy S24+ can be an alternative. Looking at the benchmark numbers, the Galaxy S24+’s performance does take a dip compared to the Galaxy S24 Ultra, but it’s running on an Exynos 2400 chip and not the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Despite the discrepancy, the Galaxy S24+ still has a respectable standing. More than that, the Galaxy S24+ even beats out the Galaxy S24 Ultra by a bit in the battery endurance test, around 19 minutes, to be exact. Considering that the Galaxy S24+ starts at just S$1,528 versus the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s S$1,928 while still retaining those AI-powered features like Generative Edit and Circle to Search, it definitely looks like a strong option.

Would I advise you to buy the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra? Yes! Admittedly, it's very similar to last year's Galaxy S23 Ultra. However, the extended 7-year upgrade policy alone makes this model more relevant in terms of long-term sustainability. Photo quality is once again top-notch as the new 5x telephoto lens is a judicious choice, if a little too pragmatic for my preference as it removed some of the magic from this iconic Samsung device. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC's performance and 5,000 mAh battery life are excellent. In short, there are plenty of good reasons to spend almost my entire month's salary on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. However, the Galaxy AI features are definitely not one of them. I don't understand why Samsung placed so much emphasis on this aspect of its smartphone. I feel like we've fallen into one of those gimmicks that trend the latest buzzwords such as NFT phones or crypto phones.

Some of the best parts of the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus aren’t entirely original to Samsung, and I think that’s fine. Adopting a well-liked, functional design and leaning on Google for AI is just smart — why reinvent the little black rectangle? As far as big Android phones go, you really can’t do better than the Galaxy S24 Plus right now in terms of performance and value. Sure, you can go Ultra and get the absolute most phone, with a big, fantastic screen, better zoom, and a built-in S Pen. But I think the Ultra demographic is a little more self-selecting, and the S24 Plus strikes me as the ultimate crowd-pleaser for someone who just wants a great Android phone. That said, there are some good reasons to consider the Pixel 8 Pro instead. Its 5x telephoto has just a bit more reach for those distant subjects compared to the S24’s 3x zoom, and Pixel software is less fussy than One UI.

And while the standard Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus models look and feel more and more like iPhones with their rounded edges, the S24 Ultra maintains the traditional Galaxy Note squareness that is distinctive among Samsung flagships, making it unique among Android phones and giving it a standout look versus the flagship iPhone 15 Pro Max. In fact, while the screen size of the S24 Ultra (6.8 inches) is only slightly larger than the iPhone 15 Pro Max (6.69) on the spec sheet, it actually has more usable space because of those square corners while the iPhone loses usable space at the top and bottom of its screen because of the rounding of its corners. That gets to overall the theme of the S24 Ultra. It's eminently practical, pleasant to use every day, and simply better in lots of unexpected little ways. In an era of rapid smartphone maturation, those are strong compliments.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra delivered a decent performance in the DXOMARK Camera tests and was a slight overall improvement over its predecessor S23 Ultra, helped by a 200MP image sensor in the main camera, a range of new AI features, and the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. Our testers particularly liked the Samsung’s portrait shots in bright light, which offered vivid and natural color that in some shots felt even more realistic than on the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max. It’s difficult to tell to which degree the AI exactly contributes to image quality, but it certainly appears that the new AI tools and Samsung’s existing imaging technologies have helped to greatly improve the rendering of some images. The S24 Ultra ultra-wide camera did very well in bright light, and at the other end of the zoom spectrum, the addition of two tele modules contributed to good detail and overall image quality across a wide range of tele zoom scenes.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra’s screen performance earned the flagship device the overall top spot in our Display protocol ranking, thanks to the marked improvements in nearly all attributes, particularly over its predecessor the S23 Ultra. In readability, the S24 Ultra was just shy of achieving the top score with its impressive performance in challenging environments.

Despite some early reservations, I was left with an overall positive impression following my time with the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Aside from the new titanium frame, flat display and the inclusion of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, there’s not a lot else in terms of upgrades, but Galaxy AI really picks up the slack. The features introduced are all useful, and in most cases, a lot of fun to play around with. Don’t be fooled into thinking you need to spend this much on the S24 Ultra, however. Most of these features can also be found on the cheaper models as well, and considering the Ultra’s starting price of £1,249, you might want to consider picking up the Galaxy S24 or S24 Plus, instead. Yet on the flip side, if you’re really after one of the best-performing smartphones on the market, with an award-winning battery life, then the Galaxy S24 Ultra, in my eyes, is worth the high cost, provided that it fits into your budget.

There is no question that Samsung and Qualcomm have absolutely hit it out of the park with this generation when it comes to performance and battery life, I'm still doing some specific camera and Galaxy AI testing before I give a final ruling on the phone. The price increase certainly isn't a welcome change when the phone looks largely the same on the outside, but the changes actually run deep on this phone with the anti-glare display, the built-in AI features, and the massive improvements to the performance and battery life. The cameras remain my biggest question and regrettably we've been dealing with abysmal weather here that hasn't lent itself to some of the test photos I need. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra costs $1,799 for 256GB of storage, and right now is on sale for the same price with twice the amount of storage. Compared to the Galaxy S23 Ultra, this is a $150 price increase, which is disappointing because there isn’t much here to justify the price increase. Of course, you could argue that Galaxy AI is worth the price in this case (but the Galaxy S23+ and S23 also feature this technology). I’ve loved my experience with the Galaxy S24 Ultra, and I believe that the handset could end up being the best 2024 Android smartphone on the market – or maybe even the best smartphone, period. However, as much as it pains me to say it, the Galaxy S24 Ultra appears to be losing ground in energy efficiency. Battery life, one of the most significant aspects of a smartphone, is still pretty good on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, but the iPhone 15 Pro Max is slightly better. At this point, you'd be forgiven for being fed up with companies trying to push AI into everything. But if you just think about these as software upgrades meant to make your phone more useful, Samsung’s push into machine learning makes a lot more sense. The S23U was already a great phone and on the S24 Ultra, we’re getting the same (though somewhat plain) design, but with a tougher titanium frame, a much faster chip, a brighter display and even longer battery life. Samsung also tweaked its main telephoto lens to provide a more useful focal length but without a major decrease in reach or quality. But the big thing is that, with its Galaxy AI suite, Samsung finally has an answer to the sophisticated features that were previously only available from the Pixel family. Sure, the S24’s tools aren’t quite as polished as Google’s offerings, but they get you 80 to 90 percent of the way there.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is a polished iteration that subtly enhances its predecessors' strong suits. It sports a more industrial, flat design with a titanium frame and a standout 6.8-inch display that's brighter and glare-reduced, offering a top-notch viewing experience. Samsung's Galaxy S24 Plus is powered by the Exynos 2400 in the UK, vs the S24 Ultra running Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. But which is best for gaming, and is battery life affected? I've been testing the Samsung S24 Plus and that Galaxy S24 Ultra, to see if Exynos 2400 really is inferior to SD 8 Gen 3 for Genshin Impact action and beyond. We start this Plus vs Ultra battle with a bit of benchmarking, using GeekBench 6 as well as 3D Mark to test the CPU and GPU. But I always prefer real life testing, so I've spent a few days playing with these Samsung phones. The Exynos 2400 holds up well compared with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, so don't discount it. That Galaxy S24 Plus can blaze through Genshin Impact and other stress tests with only very occasional, minor stumbles.

In addition to a new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, a stronger titanium frame and a higher-res telephoto cam with 5x zoom, Samsung is making a big push into AI on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Not only do you get a bunch of messaging features like spell-check for your texts or correct the tone of an email, there are also a plethora of powerful photo features that turn longer edits into a series of taps. And thanks to a collaboration with Google, Circle to Search makes looking up pretty much anything a breeze. The three big downsides are a somewhat plain design, lack of Qi 2 wireless charging support and an even higher starting price of $1,300. But if you’re looking for a flagship phone that’s meant to last, Samsung’s more durable build an commitment to seven years of OS and security updates should make the S24 Ultra an enduring pick.

At a starting price of RM6,299 and maximum price of RM8,499, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra currently sits as one of the most expensive non-foldable devices that you can get yourself on the current market. If we’re honest, it doesn’t feel like a worthwhile purchase if you’re trading up from the S23 Ultra. In fact, I would actually recommend that you hold off for a generation and stick with the S23 Ultra, especially if you can and are willing to give the whole Galaxy AI a miss, for now. On the subject of Galaxy AI, I’ve said this before and I’ll gladly say it again: at this stage, the feature feels more of a gimmick, a novelty, particularly when it comes to using it as a tool to erase certain subjects and objects from an otherwise perfect image.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is an early contender for one of the best phones of the year as it packs the most sophisticated technologies and the most premium materials currently available in a slim, titanium hewn chassis that transcends its predecessor in every way. The addition of Galaxy AI offers unique features that no other competing phone can currently match while their robust 7 year OS and security update make this a compelling proposition especially for those who infrequently upgrade their phones. If you’re after the best Android phone that money can buy, this is it.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra has started off 2024 with a huge bang in terms of what to expect with Android flagships. It’s no longer bound by just hardware upgrades as it sets a precedent on how AI can vastly improve multiple facets of our daily lives. Of course, that’s not to say that the hardware improvements are minuscule by any means since it brings a whole host of solid improvements like battery life, flat display and more but the star of the show is clearly Galaxy AI.

Ever since it absorbed the Galaxy Note’s S-Pen abilities, the Ultra has been Samsung’s do-it-all flagship. Not everyone needs its productivity-centric skills, but those that do swear by them. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is more of the same, only elevated to even more premium status thanks to the switch to titanium and the superior screen. Those AI additions are a perfect fit here, and performance was never in doubt. The firm has taken its foot off the gas just a little on the camera front, but I don’t think the majority of phone owners will care. The photos it takes are still among the best around. S23 Ultra owners shouldn’t rush to upgrade either, seeing as they’ll be getting Galaxy AI by way of a software update later in 2024. It may not be perfect, and it’s undeniably expensive, but there’s no other phone out there as feature-rich as the S24 Ultra.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is an exceptional smartphone more powerful and more comfortable to use than its predecessor. Even though there’s just too much Galaxy AI to take in at once, I’m thankful that Samsung has listened to us and created better AI-assisted photo and video editing apps along with a whole bunch of other AI-assisted apps. To answer the earliest question, with all these features the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is definitely a contender for the title of best smartphone of 2024 as well, especially if Samsung continues to add more AI features and fine-tune existing features. However, I do have to say that in terms of raw power or photography capability, while the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is significantly more powerful, for the apps and games currently available in the market the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is already more than enough.

Yes, the bezels are slimmer. Yes, the screen is flat. And yes: the Pen … still has an S in front of it. But if you’re looking for excitement in smartphones (at least those without a hinge), software is where it’s at these days – and that’s why Samsung has chosen to pitch its newest, most-expensive bar-type Galaxy … as an “AI Phone.” Yeah, the buzzword I managed to mostly avoid at this year’s CES in Las Vegas finally caught up with me at Samsung’s Unpacked event in San Jose – and here’s the thing: AI does actually make it easier to get excited about this year’s Galaxy Ultra. The only question is … for how long.

Samsung's putting all its efforts into making artificial intelligence more legit and meaningful. In our Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra review, we test out all of the new productivity Galaxy AI features, like Live Translate and Chat Assist, to see if they're any good. One of the biggest controversies is how Samsung has ditched the 10x optical zoom camera for a 5x optical one instead. It might seem like a downgrade, but the S24 Ultra's new AI-assisted photo and video editing features could make everything better. And finally, it packs the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which should boost the S24 Ultra's performance and battery life over the S23 Ultra. So, is this the smartest phone ever?

A refreshed design does not make a true upgrade. New features, new technology, and lifestyle-enhancing alternations do, and the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra has all of this along with seemingly every other feature or specification bump you could want from a new phone. Not only is it worth buying if you don’t already own a Galaxy Ultra phone, I’d even say it’s worth buying if you have a Galaxy S23 Ultra. The Galaxy AI stuff is being pushed hard, and while some of it is worth your time, it’s not a reason to choose the Galaxy S24 Ultra on its own. It’s a combination of all its parts — from the amazing battery life to the genuinely improved camera — that makes it a must-buy.

At this point, you probably know if Samsung's flavor of Android is right for you. There's enough unique about One UI that is unique to this platform to keep plenty of users in its ecosystem. Even as Samsung has turned its sites towards more mainstream buyers, dropping aspects like the microSD card slot or headphone jack — and you know the SIM card tray is next — so much of One UI feels like a power user's dream. Throw in the S Pen for good measure, and you've got a solid, if imperfect, package for a select group of Android fans. But with a starting price of $1,300, this phone needs to be just shy of perfect to get as strong a recommendation as its cheaper competition, and I don't think it lives up to that mark. Camera performance is too inconsistent, the AI features don't feel fully baked, and even the fit and finish just feels a little lackluster this year.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra gives you everything you could possibly want in an Android smartphone. There's a titanium frame, an enormous OLED screen, a stylus, the latest processor, Galaxy AI, lengthy software support, and a lot more. This is a phone that makes no compromises; not on the hardware and definitely not on the price. So you'll need to weigh the features and performance on offer here, versus your personal needs and budget. Make no mistake: there are better values in the world of Android smartphones currently. The OnePlus 12 is just as fast an costs a mere $800, and the Pixel 8 Pro is $1,000 with many of the same AI capabilities and a cleaner build of Android. At the end of the day, no one really needs a $1,300 smartphone. Time for conclusion and overall thoughts – I do think that in terms of hardware, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is an iterative upgrade. There are two big changes – the first one is the screen, which I think is a huge upgrade because of its antireflection properties and also using a flat screen. The second change is the change from a 10x telephoto to a 5x telephoto camera. Depending on how you use your phone to take pictures, this may or may not be a good change. Personally, I think 5x is better as it’s a more proper amount of zoom to take pictures of the dogs. 10x zoom makes me feel like I’m a National Geographic photographer. And the price – it’s expensive for sure, but there are still people that are going to buy it no matter what. Samsung will perpetually have discounts and such, so if you think the price is right, go get it.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra might look a lot like the S23 Ultra, but it’s a significant upgrade in more ways than one. Rather than being gimmicks, the new Galaxy AI features actually make it easier to communicate or get things done. Alongside a new commitment to seven years of updates, the whole software experience is the best it’s ever been on a Samsung phone. Hardware is top-drawer too, with superb Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 performance, five very good cameras and a gorgeous display. S Pen support and great battery life are the icing on the cake, even if charging is still frustratingly slowly. The S24 Ultra is the most complete handset you can buy, so you won’t be disappointed if you can afford to do so.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra embraces what it means to be Ultra, a phone that transcends the smartphone category. It offers more than any other phone, and somehow manages to improve upon last year’s Ultra in every way. The Galaxy S24 Ultra has better battery life, faster performance, and even better cameras, though you’ll also pay a bit more for the improvements. The new AI features are the only thing that can slow this phone down, except for Samsung’s aging and terrible software, which buries every exciting thing under layers upon layers of settings and menus. When you see the Ultra in action, it’s worth the price, and some features are downright magical, but there’s more room than ever for improvement at the top.

This is the easily the best Galaxy Ultra device Samsung has ever released, and now with it set to receive support into the 2030s, I’m not sure there’s much else to say. The camera system is fantastic, it has one of the best displays you can buy, and the battery life is superb. Stop wasting time and just go buy it. For everyone else who doesn’t instantly buy everything Samsung, I could see this phone making a few people contemplate the decision. Another notable feature is the Instant Slow-mo capability. With the Galaxy S24 series, you can add the slow-motion effect after recording the video, making it much more convenient and enjoyable. This feature is a significant improvement over recording everything in slow-motion video mode and allows for easy sharing on social media. In my perspective, the upgrades introduced by Samsung in the new S24 Ultra model are both practical and revolutionary. Instead of addressing non-existent problems, the focus is on finding solutions for existing challenges. At $1,300, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is hard to recommend unless you really want a giant screen, a camera with a wide range of zoom options and the S Pen. These are the features that truly distinguish Samsung's high-end phone from the less expensive Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus. Galaxy AI is also coming to the Galaxy S23 series, and Google's Pixel 8 family will get Circle to Search, which means there's nothing about Galaxy AI that stands out on the Galaxy S24 Ultra specifically. A device like the Galaxy S24 Ultra that's already geared towards productivity thanks to its large screen and S Pen seems like a prime candidate for extra Galaxy AI features, so hopefully we'll see more in a future update. Circle to Search and Generative Edit are easier to use with the S Pen, but that alone isn't enough to justify the higher price. Otherwise, the Galaxy S24 Ultra's sharper 50-megapixel telephoto camera, speedy new processor and seven years of software updates make it a solid upgrade for those coming from an older Samsung phone -- if you can stomach the high price.

There's increasingly a sense, for flagship phones like this Galaxy S24 Ultra, that purchase decisions have already been made long before the handset gets its official reveal. If you're a "Samsung person" then there's a fair chance you'll be picking up the next high-end Galaxy that's announced, just like an "iPhone person" probably already knows to be saving their money for Apple's next bauble late in the year. There's nothing wrong with that, either: it speaks, certainly, to the refinement and consistency of the experience companies like Samsung, and Apple, are offering (as does Samsung's commitment to seven generations of Android update). All the same, it's tough to escape the feeling that we're beyond the days of huge hardware advancements, but still not quite in an age of transformational software. The Galaxy S24 Ultra's cameras are great, but so were those of its predecessors.

Samsung's newest S Pen-toting beast has just been unveiled at the January Unpacked event! That's exactly 11 months after the announcement of the Galaxy S23 series — it seems Samsung has been growing too eager to launch its flagships before the typical 12 month cycle is up. Well, what are we getting? New processor — sure —, some design facelifts — definitely, with a titanium frame to keep up with the times. A bit of a camera module shuffle has the zoom cameras changed up a bit, but we still end up with 4 cameras on the back, like before. And, we now get to see the Galaxy S24 Ultra go completely flat-screened. There's just the ever so slight arch at the edge of it, so it fuses into the frame seamlessly. Samsung has been reducing the edge curve over the past few years. If you are still a fan of it, it looks like the Galaxy S23 Ultra may be your last chance to get a phone with an Edge screen for a while. The good news is that we do expect Samsung to keep selling the S23 Ultra as a "reduced cost model" over the next year.

In the last few days of testing, it was made clear that the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is power packed, and has all the premium-ness that it promises. It is loaded with AI features –– which could be gimmicky for some people –– that add a lot of convenience to the general usability of the phone. These features are more evident when you see the device as a standalone. However, when you compare the device with its predecessor, you see only a handful of hardware upgrades, and an upwards jump in the pricing of the model which now starts at Rs 1,30,000. The S23 Ultra was priced starting Rs 1,24,000. That naturally raises the question if the S24 Ultra is a worthy upgrade. In fact, ever since I started testing the phone, that has been the most frequently asked question.

Reviewing the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra after 5 days of testing the camera, battery life, gaming performance and more, comparing vs the S23 Ultra from last year. Is the Samsung S24 Ultra a worthy upgrade, and worth that £1249 UK price? I've been using this mega-Galaxy phone for almost a week and so far I'm a big fan. For one, the camera has improved over last year's model, so the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra offers more natural results with Scene Optimiser switched off. That's on top of the improved zoom between 5-10x, which now boasts upgraded clarity and tone. Then there's the battery life, which is again superb - and ever so slightly better on the Samsung S24 Ultra vs the S23 from 2023. Sadly those charging speeds haven't improved. Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is more powerful, but this doesn't always translate to better performance.

Similarly, if you must have S Pen and big displays, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is the only true option among the three. The upgraded Vision Booster and 2,600-nits peak brightness across all three models can be very nice, although we doubt most people would be struggling with its previous peak brightness. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is a true flagship smartphone that has everything you can want in a smartphone. It can go toe to toe with the likes of the iPhone 15 Pro Max but also beats its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, even in camera performance. However, it’s a big win. It is an upgrade and the comparison pictures will tell the same tale but it is not that big of an upgrade and hard to see at first glance. We only came across two things that can be considered as a con. The first is the lack of a curved screen, which will surely disappoint a set of users. The second con is the lack of a 10x periscopic camera. This year we only get a 5x periscopic camera but there’s barely any noticeable difference between the two. So, if you are rocking an older Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy Note 10, or any other older smartphone, this upgrade will be worth it. This experience can be further enhanced with Galaxy AI, which will surely get a lot more features in the coming months.

Apart from the aforementioned flat 6.8-inch 4K display with Corning Gorilla Glass Armor, new titanium chassis and 50MP periscope camera on the back, other stand-out features for the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra includes the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and AI-features. We’ve covered these in more detail in a separate article but we did manage to try out the real-time language translation, which should make things a lot easier for those who are going to travel overseas or communicate with people who don’t use your language this 2024. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra's finish is more durable than ever before thanks to a new titanium finish, its cameras even more capable thanks to the new 5x optical zoom, its flat-panel display now means the integrated S Pen stylus is just much more practical, and despite strong competition this flagship really is the jewel in Android's crown for 2024.

This hands-on review runs through the Samsung S24 Ultra specs and shows how this £1249 beast stacks up to the Galaxy S24 Plus and mini 2024 smartphone. For one, you get upgraded camera hardware, including a 200MP primary shooter and 50MP periscope zoom. However, the other phones can now capture 8K video at 30FPS and they have the same ultra-wide and selfie setup. The other big difference is the chipset - in the UK, that Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, while the S24 and Plus are Exynos 2400. Stick around for more on the differences! The Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus now boasts a QHD screen just like the Ultra model, and it's only a mite smaller. However, the S24 Ultra does upgrade that Victus 2 screen coating to Gorilla Glass Armor, which is anti-reflective as well as scratch resistant. Stay tuned for my full review of these phones to see how the Samsung S24 Ultra gaming performance and battery life compares to the Plus and regular models.

Unboxing the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, the mighty Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 flagship phone with upgraded camera tech and beefy gaming performance. This 24 hour review shows off the best Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra bits, with some early photo samples and impressions. Full verdict coming next week! AI is the buzzword here, take a shot every time you hear it - with the camera experience augmented with some nifty tools and features. Photo editing is now easier than ever, while the Samsung S24 Ultra’s Snapdragon smarts can also help with transcription and translation. That Qualcomm chipset means beefy performance, although I’ll be testing the Genshin Impact skills in my full review. The Galaxy S24 Ultra seems to have excellent battery life like the S23 Ultra, while Samsung’s design has been spruced up in places. Titanium, baby! So that’s what I think of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra so far. What do you reckon and have you placed your pre-order yet? Let us know your own thoughts below!

Meet the Galaxy S24 series, a very familiar look, but with a new slogan that focuses more on something else. Samsung is calling out that its Galaxy AI is here, and I know, the term Artificial Intelligence is everywhere today, not just here. What's interesting, though is that Samsung's approach is unique in a couple of ways, and dare I say, most of which are pretty awesome. I'm Jaime Rivera with Pocketnow and let's dive into our hands-on.

It's quite obvious that Galaxy AI is doing the heavy lifting this year, with most of the hardware improvements and software features heavily relying on the on-device AI algorithms. For yet another year, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is the center of attention with the new telephoto camera, titanium side frame, and flat frontal design. However, the changes in the Galaxy S24 and S24+ are more than welcome. The slight bump in the battery capacity and the upgrade to brighter LTPO OLED panels are significant upgrades. In fact, the Galaxy S24+, with its higher resolution LTPO panel and 4,900 mAh battery, put it much closer to the S24 Ultra than ever before. We are curious to see how this plays out because some may prefer the S24+ over the Ultra due to their similar feature set and big price gap. What's more, we are eager to see how the new AI-driven features aid real-life situations and whether Samsung's heavy bet on AI instead of offering more meaningful hardware upgrades is enough to boost sales and spark users' interest.

The Galaxy S24 lineup will be available for pre-order starting today, and the phones will hit shelves on January 30th. Pricing for the S24 and S24+ are consistent with last year, at $799 and $999, respectively. However, the S24 Ultra is getting a small price bump. Instead of starting at $1,200 like the S23 Ultra, this phone will retail for $1,299. If you're going to pick up a Galaxy S24, you might want to order early. Samsung offers enhanced trade-in values for old phones and free storage upgrades to pre-orders. We'll have a review up and live soon, so stay tuned.

The Galaxy S24 starts at $1,099, and the S24+ at $1,399. Both handsets come in ‘Onyx Black,’ ‘Marble Gray,’ ‘Cobalt Violet,’ ‘Amber Yellow,’ and Samsung Store exclusive colours, ‘Jade Green,’ ‘Sapphire Blue’ and ‘Sandstone Orange.’ There’s a lot to test out for the first time in several years with the Galaxy S24 series, and I’m pretty excited to try out the S24 Ultra. Samsung’s new Galaxy AI features seem useful and could make my day-to-day easier. A full review of the Galaxy S24 Ultra will hit MobileSyrup in the coming weeks after I’ve spent more time testing out the smartphone.

While these changes are welcome, they don’t fundamentally change the Galaxy experience from years gone by. If you’ve used a recent Galaxy flagship, you’ll know what these devices feel like to use, for better or worse. Likewise, One UI 6.1 is an incremental upgrade over the One UI 6 software currently running on the Galaxy S23 series, and with years of updates left, recent models still feel very current. Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra offers a bit more new hardware, mostly in the camera department. Still, we’ll have to spend more time with it to determine whether the upgrades are worth the extra cash. This circles us back to Galaxy AI as the key reason to have your eye on the new Galaxy S24 series. I’d hesitate to call the new features as revolutionary as Samsung claims. However, the company has earmarked some useful AI utilities and implemented them very well for a first-generation attempt.

Despite some early reservations, I was left with an overall positive first impression following my brief time with the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Aside from the new titanium frame, flat display and the inclusion of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, there’s not a lot else in terms of upgrades, but Galaxy AI takes up the slack. I’m certainly looking forward to fully testing all the new features it has to offer when I receive a handset for review. Don’t be fooled into thinking you need to spend this much on the 24 Ultra, however. Most of these features can also be found on the cheaper models as well, and at a starting price of £1,249, you might want to reconsider your S24 Ultra purchase and perhaps pick up one of those instead. If not, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is available to preorder from today (17 January) and launches in the UK on 31 January.

The Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra all cater to slightly different needs. The S24 is perfect for those seeking a compact device that doesn’t sacrifice on performance or high-end specs. The S24+ adds a larger display and increased storage, making it ideal for people who enjoy lots of content consumption. The S24 Ultra, with its extra camera features, titanium build and built-in S Pen. extraordinary camera capabilities and extensive storage options, stands as the ultimate flagship. Of course, the more capable devices are also more expensive. But regardless of which S24 phone you choose, you’ll be getting an excellent display, premium build quality and slick software, not to mention seven years of updates.

Though it may look similar to its predecessor, a number of meaningful changes keep the Galaxy S24 Ultra an interesting option for 2024. That’s not only because of the regular features – great cameras, top-end performance and, of course, the S Pen – but because of the now AI-supercharged apps and a new long-term OS upgrade commitment. While I’m not yet ready to deliver my final verdict, Samsung could be on to a winner with the Galaxy S24 Ultra – it just depends on how well the AI tools hold up in everyday use.

Qualcomm Adreno 750:
