Análisis para el Toshiba Qosmio G45
Origen: Digital Trends EN→ES Archive.org version
There’s certainly a lot to like about the Qosmio G45-AV690 . It’s easily one of the best multimedia notebooks we’ve ever tested, and watching movies on its gorgeous display is a real pleasure. It’s a shame that one of its key features – an HD DVD burner – won’t have much usefulness in the future, as it diminishes the G45’s overall future proofing. That’s too bad, because this is one heck of a notebook otherwise. In fact, if it shipped with a Blu-ray drive (or HD DVD/Blu-ray combo drive) and ditched the bloatware, we’d have no problem recommending it without reservation.

Toshiba's high-end Qosmio G45-AV690 is great for movies and multimedia, and its onboard controls are fun to use--but the recordable HD DVD drive means you're paying extra for a dead technology.

Toshiba has packed in everything you need for watching HD content and then some. Whether you want to game or even get some complex Photoshop work done, the high horsepower combination of an Intel dual core processor, NVIDIA discrete graphics, and a healthy 3GB of RAM will handle just about anything you throw at it. You even get an ATI TV Wonder digital cable tuner, which combined with the HD-DVD drive and 1080p capable display will leave you in HD heaven. The laptop performed well while watching HD content and gaming, but the battery life wasn’t long enough to complete an HD-DVD movie. The G45 seems more like a multimedia desktop replacement with its short battery life, but you’ll probably be tethered to a power outlet just to finish watching a movie, HD-DVD or not, from beginning to end. It’s hard to recommend the G45 because of its price and also since HD-DVD is a dying technology. You will find better options, such as Toshiba's Satellite X205 which has a better configuration and is less expensive.

Priced at $3,199, the Toshiba Qosmio G45-AV690 isn’t for penny-pinchers, but the superb audio and video capabilities will make it a must-have machine for multimedia junkies. It may not pack the sheer graphics muscle of the high-end gaming rigs, or all the bells and whistles of the 20-inch HP Pavilion HDX, but for a 17-inch multimedia notebook, the Toshiba Qosmio G45-AV690 is an excellent choice. Our only reservation is that HD DVD has lost the format war, and consumers cannot order this system without that drive.

Going at the same price point of the previous G45 notebook, this version offers a heck of a value. You get the new Penryn processor that increases performance substantially, the ATI HDTV Tuner with CableCARD support, and none of the problems I had with the previous review unit. Even with these enhancements the G45 is still at a price point where you would be shopping alongside much faster gaming notebooks (which may in fact be less pricey). As such it’s hard to recommend this notebook over Toshiba’s own X205, which offers much higher gaming performance for $1,000 less.

Toshiba's newest Qosmio is a solid high-def multimedia workhorse featuring lots of storage space and a recordable HD-DVD drive. Toshiba continues to impress with its stylish Qosmio line of desktop replacement notebooks. The G45-AV680 is a massive system with a healthy dose of multimedia features and some serious processing power. It also carries a hefty $2,999 price tag. Beneath the 11-pound system's Cosmic Black Pearl lid you'll find a stunning 17-inch, 1900 x 1200-pixel resolution Ultimate TruBrite widescreen display designed for 1080p high-def viewing. The clarity and overall image quality of this screen is awesome, as is the sound quality of the powerful Harman/Kardon speakers and Dolby Home Theater audio system. In fact, while viewing our Apollo 13 HD DVD, we found ourselves forgetting that we were watching the movie on a notebook.

Gorgeous-sounding entertainment laptop is the high-def king, but it lacks some of its predecessor's panache. The $3200 (as of 10/9/07) Qosmio G45-AV680 is a major redesign of Toshiba's flagship 17-inch entertainment notebook, the Qosmio G35-AV660. The revamped version has an HD DVD recordable drive, one of the first in a laptop, and a new built-in 4.1 speaker system. Other changes, though, such as the disabled TV button and new case colors, will disappoint the Qosmio faithful. The Qosmio used to look and feel like a really cool piece of home-theater equipment. Now, while it's arguably the best choice for high-definition viewing and recording, it's not as easy--or as much fun--to use. The preconfigured G45-AV680 comes with an integrated HD DVD-R3 optical drive capable of recording high-definition content to write-once double-layer HD DVD discs at 1X speed.

With the trend in laptops going in the direction of lighter and thinner systems, it's fascinating to see that 10-pound media center laptops are still selling briskly. PC makers are using incentives like high definition, bright screens, and tons of storage capacity as their selling points for these oversize laptops. Toshiba's Qosmio line arguably ranks among the top five in high-definition media centers for its media features and a much-touted 1080p widescreen. Its popularity would be more widespread, too, if it weren't so expensive. At $3,199 (direct), the newest Qosmio, the G45-AV680, gets a much-needed design overhaul, taking cues from the sleek glossy finishes served up by HP and Sony. It's also the first laptop available with an HD DVD-R writable drive. Now you can watch and burn high-definition content—er—just as you can with the Blu-ray laptops.

The Toshiba Qosmio G45 is a full entertainment system packed into one slightly oversized 17” widescreen notebook. It combines a 1080P high resolution display, HD-DVD Player, surround sound system, TV Tuner, and gaming machine into one device that can be carried to different locations inside your backpack.
Compared to most notebooks the Qosmio is an extremely flashy computer. The display cover is glossy black with the Qosmio brand name embossed over it; proudly announcing its name to those around you. Opening the laptop reveals its glossy white palm rest and keyboard surround, nicely contrasting the top cover, with chrome dials and touch-sensitive selection buttons to control various functions. Bright blue LEDs illuminate all soft media buttons, as well as the volume dial and power switch when the unit is powered up. The LED’s can be disabled if the user so wishes, by pressing a soft-key above the keyboard.
With its steep price, quality issues, and questionable durability, its hard to recommend the Qosmio G45 over other quality Toshiba notebooks like the Satellite X205 gaming notebook.

Even though the most interesting new laptops fall into the ultraportable category, a big, over-the-top 17-inch desktop replacement can still be fun. Toshiba's Qosmio line is known for high-end home theater features and high prices, and the latest version, the massive Qosmio G45, is no exception. For $3,199, you get an HD DVD-R drive (a first for a U.S. laptop), a screen that supports full 1080p resolution, twin media control wheels (one for volume, the other for playback functions), and a Harman Kardon speaker system, complete with a subwoofer on the bottom. Does anyone need a laptop this big and expensive? We'd venture a no, but in a world of generic gray boxes, the white, glossy Qosmio G45 stands out as an excellent portable home theater laptop that's just plain fun to use.

Comentario
