The Vivo X100 Pro is an incredible camera phone with a telephoto macro camera. It has changed my product photography, as I no longer need to bring a full-size camera with me to events. It goes to show what is possible with smartphone cameras, and really makes companies like Apple and Samsung look like they’re not really taking photography as seriously as they could be. If the selfie camera featured auto-focus, then we would be looking at the perfect camera phone, but unfortunately this lets the phone down a little. The main camera performs exceptionally well, with impressive results in all lighting conditions, whether shooting in daylight, low-light or night time conditions.

The Vivo X100 Pro’s display performance was overall very good, with the screen achieving a very high score in the color attribute for its excellent and faithful color rendering in indoor and low-light conditions. The Vivo X100 Pro display showed significant improvements over the previous Vivo flagship, the X90 Pro+, particularly in the HDR10 video experience. When watching HDR10 videos in a low-light environment, the Vivo X100 Pro provided a comfortable brightness level, pleasant color-rendering, and rich details that were visible even in the darkest shades of the content. Under indoor lighting, HDR10 video performance was correct thanks mainly to the screen’s proper brightness. However, a slight lack of contrast was visible. The device’s high brightness mode increased readability under sunlight. However, the brightness boost targeted for the darkest shades made the image content appear unnatural.

I honestly really do like this phone. Way more than I thought I would. And that’s due a lot to the camera quality and how good the images come out. I think depending on what you’re looking for, the X100 Pro could be an amazing phone choice. The only major issue for people in the US is that you really can’t get this phone officially. You can buy it on Amazon and it would be unlocked. But you’re likely to pay a little bit of a premium. On top of that, it isn’t going to work with all the US bands. So you’d probably have trouble connecting it to your network towers at least some of the time. But those things aside, this phone works perfectly when mobile data is out of the equation. Connecting it to WiFi for anything that needs data, and then just using it for its camera features, this phone shines brightly.

Reviewing the Vivo X100 Pro, a long time after its global release - and I'm glad I did because the camera, gaming performance and battery life are amazing! I missed the Vivo X100 Pro when it first launched but here's my verdict vs rivals like the Samsung S24 Ultra and Xiaomi 14 series. One of the best bits of this flagship smartphone is that Zeiss branded camera tech, which can capture fantastic portrait photos and everyday pics. Vivo's triple 50MP lens arrangement offers the usual flexibility while the X100 Pro 5G can also record up to 8K video. Performance is one of the most interesting areas too. Mediatek's Dimensity 9300 is in charge and means gaming on Genshin Impact is a beautifully smooth experience. In my testing the Vivo X100 Pro got a bit toasty, but that didn't seem to impact the frame rate thankfully. And FunTouch's dedicated game mode is a great addition.

Chinese smartphone company Vivo has made its latest attempt to make a name for itself outside China with its new premium phone, which takes on the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and iPhone 15 Pro Max as a top-price top-spec juggernaut. The Vivo X100 Pro is the brand’s most recent top-end Android phone, following the Vivo X80 Pro from 2022 – the company has a bit of a scattergun approach when it comes to releasing its Chinese phones in the rest of the world. The X80 Pro was a great phone hindered by a horribly high price tag; while the Vivo X100 Pro is also an eye-wateringly pricey smartphone, it does a much better job at justifying this cost than its predecessor. It’s still unlikely to tempt you from Samsung or Apple’s latest powerhouses, but you won’t feel disappointed by it either.

Yes, for the simple fact that it is more versatile than most phones in capturing a variety of images. Converted for USD, you’re looking at around $1,000 to $1,200 for the X100 Pro, depending on the variant, which is competitive compared to other big-name flagships.

The Vivo X100 Pro 5G faces a lot of flagship-level competition, but to its credit, it stands up to it very well indeed. In fact, if photography is a major criterion for your investing in a flagship phone, then the Vivo X100 Pro 5G is one of the finest devices out there in terms of sheer versatility. The phone delivers great images and very good videos and its innovative use of the telephoto sensor is rather unique at the time of writing. It might not have the smarts of a Galaxy S24 5G, the computational photography magic of a Pixel 8, or the Snappy Dragons of a OnePlus 12, but it definitely has one of the best main camera sensors and a crazy good telephoto camera, with a truckload of tricks up its camera sleeves. It is every inch a flagship in other regards as well, but hey, look at that back – this really is a flagship with a photographic soul. In fact, it comes in the rare category of devices that can claim to be cameras as much as phones. And if that does not sum up the Vivo X100 Pro 5G, nothing will.

It’s only January, but the X100 Pro is a strong contender for the best camera phone of the year. That’s mostly due to the excellent periscope camera, which packs good long-range zoom, great macro snaps, and impressive low-light shots. But the rest of the camera package also delivers polished results. Don’t care for the cameras? Then the new vivo handset still brings perks like a sharp, bright screen, an IP68 rating, fast wired/wireless charging, and an improved Android skin. These upsides are stymied by throttling issues and disappointing battery life, though. The X100 Pro is confirmed for Europe and India, but it looks like the phone has only arrived in the latter for now. Expect to pay a recommended price of Rs 96,999 (~$1,170) for the sole 16GB/512GB variant in India. That means it’s caught between the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro in the region while being cheaper than the S23 Ultra and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

With a DXOMARK Audio score of 134, the Vivo X100 Pro delivered a fairly average performance in our tests. Distortion was noticeable when playing back audio at high volume, but our audio experts liked the solid timbre rendition in playback at nominal volume, despite a lack of low-end extension. Recording performance was very consistent overall, and timbre delivered from the microphones was deemed particularly pleasant and natural. Thanks to effective wind noise reduction the X100 Pro did very well when recording in windy conditions, but the Vivo is one of few Ultra-Premium phones not to offer an audio zoom feature. In the playback tests, the X100 Pro performed best for gaming, but the results were close when listening to music or watching movies. Recording scores were highest when using the memo app. Selfie video was almost on the same level, but main camera video and meeting room recordings dropped a little lower.

The Vivo X100 Pro performed very well in the DXOMARK Camera tests, thanks to the excellent light collection capabilities of the large 1/0.98″ Sony IMX 989 sensor in the main camera module. The same sensor was already used on the predecessor X90 Pro and in other ultra-premium segment models, including the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, and the sensor contributes significantly to the Vivo’s very good texture and noise results across all light levels, down to low light. In photo mode, images had better contrast than what we had previously seen on the X90 Pro, but in some conditions, our testers noticed slight underexposure and shadow clipping. Colors were pleasant in all shooting conditions and overall color rendering was improved over the X90 Pro, despite some occasional white balance instabilities. Our experts also observed some unwanted image artifacts, including ghosting in scenes with fast motion.

So the Vivo X100 Pro is one of the best cameras that I have tested in the recent past, easily. With that, we get quite a lot of might with the powerful MediaTek Dimensity 9300, and a brilliant display. The only thing that had to be sacrificed for stuffing all that tech within the 8.9mm thick frame is the ergonomics. Vivo is back with another flagship that boasts of another kickass camera setup. The Vivo X100 Pro is the company’s latest camera sensation and comes with a lot of things that we found missing on last year’s Vivo X90 Pro. While the focus on the camera is obvious, the X100 Pro has a lot of other things going for it. We get one of the best software experiences that I have personally ever seen on any Vivo smartphone, we get the latest MediaTek flagship chip which is right up there with its Qualcomm counterpart, and a lot more. Rarely ever there comes a smartphone which just blows smartphone reviewers away and the Vivo X100 Pro is one of those smartphones.

Even otherwise, the phone excels in nearly every aspect that has come to define a flagship device — a dazzling AMOLED display, impressively rapid charging speeds, and top-notch performance. The MediaTek Dimensity 9300, serving as a capable flagship chipset, ensures swift and high-performance operations, standing toe-to-toe with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. Adding to its appeal is a substantial 5,400mAh battery that provides enduring power, lasting a day and a half even under moderate to high usage. The Vivo X100 Pro ticks a lot of the boxes that would make it the perfect smartphone for a whole bunch of people. However, if taking photos is what you use your smartphone the most, picking the Vivo X100 Pro seems to be a no-brainer for now.

That being said, a lot also depends on whether you are open to spending Rs 89,999 for a high-end Vivo smartphone. I don’t recommend the X100 Pro to everyone who is looking to buy a high-end Android smartphone. The X100 Pro is a niche device, a tool for photographers who are looking for authenticity in their photos. And Vivo succeeded in doing that. I hope Vivo makes a smaller “pro” version of this device with the same set of cameras.

The Vivo X100 Pro is an example of the brand moving in the right direction. The flagship phone nails almost every aspect, offering a terrific and versatile camera system, a stunning AMOLED display, and superfast charging speeds. The MediaTek Dimensity 9300 is a capable flagship chipset, delivering a fast-paced performance that squares up to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. The icing on the cake is a large 5,400mAh battery that can last a day and a half on moderate to high usage. Priced at Rs 89,999, the Vivo X100 Pro is on the pricier side and competes with the likes of the iPhone 15 Plus and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. I can safely say that the Vivo X100 Pro manages to hold its own and is a good option for those looking for the best cameras on a phone in 2024. And while the Dimensty 9300 is a good performer, you can get the iQOO 12 at a much lower price point, if what you’re looking for is performance over everything else.

When it comes to cameras, Fujifilm seems to have found its sweet spot with photographers as an enthusiast's camera. Among smartphones, Vivo too seems to be the best suited to smartphone camera enthusiasts or those who love extracting the most out of their smartphone cameras. It hits the sweet spot when it comes to mobile imaging, delivering a delicate mix of AI imagery while also giving enough emphasis to hardware. It's not out to defeat the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra (Review) in a zoom contest, or the Pixel 8 Pro (Review) with its AI smarts, but it has the potential of becoming a favourite with those who are into street- photography or love clicking portraits (kids, pets, objects) and generally spending more time on the telephoto camera than the primary. At the same time, the Vivo X100 Pro also provides enough flexibility for general camera requirements.

A VERY long story short, the Vivo X100 Pro is not a perfect phone. It has its flaws. Its battery struggles to live through the day. Its camera doesn’t work its best during low light. At Rs 89,999, the pricing is a little too steep in my opinion. Especially as the Vivo X100 Pro has launched just at the cusp of the launch of Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S24 series –– which incidentally is rumoured to be priced lower than the S23 series. So the question isn't really if it's worth it, but the question is how Samsung price its 2024 flagships. However, overall, barring the pricing, I believe none of it should really be a dealbreaker. The Vivo X100 Pro is a solid phone, and will be a haven for mobile photography enthusiasts. Just don’t forget to carry a power bank when you are on the move.

The Vivo X100 Pro is an incredible phone. It boasts the most versatile camera system that I’ve ever had the pleasure of using and that’s backed up by a lovely display, lightning-fast performance and a stunning design. It leaves me with barely anything to complain about. My only real wish is that the selfie camera was a bit better. Vivo has been sticking one of the most impressive selfie cameras around in its mid-range V-series phones for years – surely it makes sense to add it here, too. Otherwise, the main challenge for our readers is going to be getting their hands on it. While it has been launched internationally, we’re still not exactly sure which European countries will get a proper release, and if past releases are anything to go by, the UK and US are unlikely to get a look in. If you live in a supported region, though, the Vivo X100 Pro is extremely easy to recommend. In fact, it’s so good that it might be worth the hassle of importing.

Vivo is making a statement with the X100 Pro. The phone is powered by the Dimensity 9300, and it is faster in daily use than devices powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The new AMOLED display is astounding, and the fact that it goes up to 3,000 nits makes it a stellar choice for HDR content. But the biggest reason for buying the X100 Pro is the cameras; thanks to a 1-inch main camera and terrific auxiliary modules, the phone takes magnificent photos and videos in just about any situation. Combine that with a large battery that lasts up to two days, ultra-fast charging tech, and cleaner software with less bloatware, and the X100 Pro is turning out to be an early contender to one of the best phones of 2024.

It’s powerful, comfortably lasts all day, and has an exceptionally bright screen – but then so does every new flagship phone. What sets the X100 Pro apart is those fantastic rear camera sensors. Portraits and zoom shots look truly fantastic, and the 1in main sensor remains a force to be reckoned with. I put it up there with the phone world’s best for detail, depth blur and overall presentation, in just about any light. I can’t ignore the fact that most Stuff readers are going to find it hard to get their hands on a Vivo X100 Pro, though. Unless you hail from India, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong or Taiwan, you’ll need to import one. That’s a lot of hassle when you could waltz into any local electronics store and walk out with a Google Pixel 8 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro or Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra – all exceptional camera phones in their own right. I’m awarding top marks with that very strong caveat. If you can acquire one, though, you’ll be pleased as punch with its photographic abilities.

Both Vivo X100 and Vivo X100 Pro are excellent flagship smartphones that feature one of the best camera setups and even beat the likes of iPhone 15 Pro’s camera in some scenarios. Both are 5G smartphones with top-of-the-line flagship chipsets that will certainly provide an elevated experience in the next couple of years. The same goes for the display, battery and even the choice of design and the pricing is like icing on the cake, costing a lot less than what other flagships usually ask for. If Vivo smartphones are not available in your country, then you can go for the Xiaomi 14 Pro, which is also a flagship camera smartphone. The Vivo X100, Vivo X100 Pro, and the Xiaomi 14 Pro are available for a similar price tag but offer a unique experience of their own. Each has its own set of pros and cons. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.

Initially having us worried, the Dimensity chipset managed to prove its worth during the course of the review with high peak performance and excellent stability under load. It was also efficient enough for the vivo to earn high marks for endurance and the fast charging didn't hurt the X100 Pro either. And just because it's got less than ideal grip, doesn't mean that the X100 Pro isn't easy on the eyes - we can be superficial like that sometimes. All things considered, you can call us fans of the X100 Pro - vivo made another top-class cameraphone.

The Vivo X100 Pro is here, and yes, it has in my opinion the best camera for still photos. I have been absolutely smittened by the 100mm Periscope zoom lens that can capture excellent zoom photos. However, I am not a big fan of the hardware design and software, both of which I find slightly outdated in late 2023. Elsewhere, the phone runs on a Mediatek Dimensity 9300, with a 6.8-inch 120Hz OLED screen.

That’s the first Mediatek Dimensity 9300 smartphone, boasting an impressive telephoto camera and premium specs - full review coming soon! Apologies for the balls audio in the first section, shooting while on the move is always a challenge, especially when you're permanently half cut... The Vivo X100 Pro boasts some cool features including Generative AI shenanigans that can turn you into an anime character etc. Sadly we weren’t allowed to film that bit, but I’ll be testing it out fully soon. Uncle Spurt will likely resemble a haggard One Punch Man with dead, cold eyes. The Mediatek Dimensity 9300 upgrades that Genshin Impact gameplay experience, and can cope with Ray Tracing even when running games at 60FPS. All with less power use than the Dimensity 9200. Is the Vivo X100 the best non-Pro phone of the year? It depends on how you look at the smartphone. If you are looking for the most comprehensive Android smartphone with all-around performance, then the Vivo X100 stands out, at least for now. The handset manages to edge past the previous best iQOO 12 (review) with its cameras for me. The performance of the Vivo smartphone is comparable to its counterpart, if not better. Moreover, the design looks interesting, the display is gorgeous, and the battery life is right up there against most of its arch rivals. It is the software, which comes with bloatware, and the relatively average selfie camera that might give you second thoughts about the smartphone. But, if you can look past those aspects, the Vivo X100 will provide a considerable value for its price, which starts at Rs 63,999 for the base 12GB RAM variant and goes up to Rs 69,999 for the 16GB RAM variant.

At Rs 63,999, it is cheaper than the base model of the Google Pixel 8, which is a heavyweight in the world of mobile photography. Although, if you use offers on Flipkart, you can get the Pixel 8 for around 65,000 easily. And that makes sense for Android purists. If you are not bothered by the software Vivo ships with its flagship phones, X100 is a good choice. The OnePlus 12 is another alternative but it was not available to buy at the time of writing. The flagship OnePlus phone is launching in India on January 23, which means you can easily wait for it. The OnePlus 12 will likely have a periscope telephoto camera on the back alongside the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, which is more powerful than the chipset you get on the Vivo X100.

After thoroughly testing the Vivo X100, I have got some insights to share. This phone is a solid option, especially for people eyeing the Vivo X100 Pro but looking for a more budget-friendly choice. It's got some serious upgrades compared to the X90 series, packing in a better camera setup, a vibrant display, a strong battery, and the Dimensity 9300 processor. The device starts at Rs 63,999, which is decent for a flagship phone. Performance-wise, the Vivo X100 holds its own against the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip in everyday tasks and gaming, although it tends to heat up during intense use. The Funtouch OS 14 keeps things tidy, but the selfie camera disappoints a bit in lower lighting. Outdoors, the primary camera impresses with vivid details and colors, but indoors, it struggles a bit with artificial lighting. The telephoto and super macro lenses shine outdoors but stumble indoors, resulting in shaky shots when digitally zoomed. The Vivo X100 offers a compelling package with impressive features and decent performance.

The vivo X100 stands as a versatile flagship smartphone in its class. The smartphone impresses with its exceptional ZEISS camera performance, featuring a solid camera package of 50 MP main + 50 MP ultra-wide + 50 MP telephoto and a 32 MP selfie camera that takes stunning selfies and portraits. the vivo X100 is a performance device, with its new MediaTek Dimensity 9300 SoC, it delivers top-notch CPU and GPU performance paired with the 120W fast charging that quickly charges the phone. The smartphone also offers a premium curved design, a really bright 120 Hz AMOLED display, and a bunch of new Android 14 features and perks as well as from the FunTouchOS 14. With all that said, the vivo X100 is an ideal choice for users with a budget exceeding ₹60,000, seeking a camera-centric powerhouse.

This sincerity is also reflected in the product strength of the X100 itself: outstanding appearance and craftsmanship design, unique imaging capabilities in its class, especially the periscope telephoto and full focal length that are stronger than the X90 Pro + For portrait shooting, there are also full configurations such as the debut Dimensity 9300 (the rising power of the X100 makes the performance of the X100 unstoppable), IP68 waterproof, and the OriginOS 4 supported by Blue Heart Xiao V. It can be said that the competitive advantage of the vivo X100 Full, as a standard version product, it has indeed achieved the “perfect score” level. You may say that the lack of wireless charging, short-focus fingerprints, and no 2K screen can be called a perfect score. In the author’s opinion, these small “regrettable” points in the 3,999 yuan range can only be regarded as “additional questions” that were not done well, or the focus is different.

I used all flagships released in 2024, and the X100 Ultra has the best overall camera package. The rest of the hardware is pretty great too: you get an elegant design, a bright OLED with excellent colors, terrific gaming potential, and a long-lasting battery. But it's the cameras — particularly the portrait lens — that allows the X100 Ultra to stand out. However, the phone is limited to China, and the software has its share of issues with notifications. The X100 Ultra is a fantastic showcase of the potential of phone cameras, and Vivo needs to bring the next model to global markets.

Every now and then we're faced with a phone that we know we're going to love for one reason or another, but we can't have for one reason or another. Usually, it's China-only cameraphones. The vivo X100 Ultra is one such case. It's got top-class camera hardware, with standout bits at the telephoto side of its zoom range, and it easily converts the numbers into genuinely good photos and video. At this level, comparisons against other phones need to be very specific and tailored to your particular preferences, and a paragraph or two won't tell you which is the best for you. But with a setup that only falls short in one area (and only sort of - the ultrawide is good, but not great), the X100 Ultra is easily one of the best choices for a wide range of shooting enthusiasts.

Vivo:
