The Vivo X60 Pro (Snapdragon) smoothly adapts to changing light conditions and has accurate color rendering. However, it lacks brightness in most tested conditions, and this has an impact on the user experience, especially when watching HDR10 videos, which lack contrast and appear somewhat flat. Dark tones are missing and a green cast is noticeable. The device has a smooth feel when browsing the web and when gaming. Although the screen reacts accurately when gaming, touch reactivity in the corners is poor, and aliasing is visible.

Let’s see how it did in our Battery protocol tests. The Vivo X60 Pro 5G (Snapdragon) put in an above-average performance in our Battery protocol tests. Showing no weaknesses, it takes over the top spot in the Premium segment.

The Vivo X60 Pro 5G (Snapdragon) is the EU version of the mobile phone, which differs from the China-exclusive Exynos version in terms of chipset among other characteristics. The EU model features the Snapdragon 870 chipset with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage, runs Android 11, and boasts a 4200 mAh battery with 33W flash charging. The display is a large 6.56-inch FHD+ AMOLED with a 120 Hz refresh rate. For selfies, both the EU and China models use the same front camera module. There’s a 32 MP sensor coupled with an f/2.45 aperture lens. Video is also captured at full HD 1080p at 30 fps resolution.

The VIVO X60 Pro costs £748, so it is not what you’d call a cheap phone. It’s not even a mid-range phone. It is a flagship phone that costs about as much as the Galaxy S21, the iPhone 12, and the Xiaomi Mi 11. For this amount of money, you expect a few things to be in place, things like an IP rating, solid battery life, and a high-resolution display. You’d also expect to have the best CPU money can buy. But on the VIVO X60 Pro, all of these things are missing. I do like the VIVO X60 Pro and I had a great time testing it but for the asking price, it does fall short in my eyes. If it cost £499, I’d be recommending this phone to everyone. But it doesn’t. And at this price point, the VIVO X60 Pro, with all of its foibles, just isn’t as competitive as the competition.

Vivo X60 Pro entered European markets just over half a year after the brand's debut on the Old Continent and the launch of quite successful Vivo X51. Is the successor better than the predecessor? You will find out from the following review! At the outset, let me explain that in this review we are talking about the European variant of Vivo X60 Pro, labeled V2046. You must know that there is also a "Chinese" version of this phone, with the same name, but different interface and - more importantly - processor. We got the Snapdragon 870 instead of the Exynos 1080. Unfortunately, along the way, the European variant lost its telephoto camera - making it a bit weaker than its predecessor . But maybe something has also changed for the better...?

In 2020, Vivo released the X60 Pro, driven by an Exynos chip, in China. In April of this year, the X60 Pro went global, but this time, it was equipped with the Snapdragon 870 5G chipset. The X60 Pro is one of the brand’s flagships, just downstream from the X60 Pro Plus, with features like a 6.56 inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a four-camera array, and a fast-charging 4200 mAh (TYP) battery. Vivo’s website does not mention the X60 Pro’s audio specifications, but it has one speaker that is bottom right-side firing.

On sale in Europe, UK, India, and a few other Asian countries, the Vivo X60 Pro is being sold at £749/€799 which is pretty much the same price as the X51 5G from 2020. This time around, though, there’s a flagship (ish) processor in the form of the Snapdragon 870 which brings a nice performance boost to a svelte-looking handset. The Vivo X60 has its strengths such as the very capable 48MP main camera with Gimbal Stabilization 2.0, a very good AMOLED display, and a stunning design, but there are glaring omissions such as wireless charging, the limited 33W fast-charging speed, an IP rating, and the expensive price tag. Much like the X51 5G, the X60 Pro is a very good phone that is weighed down by its RRP when compared to competitors such as the Galaxy S21 and Mi 11i.

The Vivo X60 Pro 5G (Snapdragon) is the global release of this device and differs from the China-only Exynos version not only in the chipset but also in the photography specifications, with only a single tele-lens included on the Snapdragon model versus two teles on the model for the Chinese market. The handset features the Snapdragon 870 chipset with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage, runs Android 11, and boasts a 4200 mAh battery with 33W flash charging. The display is a large 6.56-inch FHD+ AMOLED with a 120 Hz refresh rate. Aside from dropping the second tele-lens, the camera is the same as in the Exynos version. Co-engineered with Zeiss, the primary camera is built around a 48 MP Quad Bayer sensor (12 MP output) with a f/1.48-aperture lens. Both zoom cameras utilize 13 MP sensors, with a f/2.56-aperture lens on the tele and a f/2.2-aperture lens on the ultra-wide.

The vibrant competition Vivo faces give us pause before recommending it as a top-of-mind purchase. Unfortunately, this choice dilemma results in the X60 Pro losing a little of its lustre, despite the phone being relatively well put together. Really, if you’re able to fork out close to S$1,200, there are so many other true flagships with other perks to consider, even before you look at this pretty phone. Even the S$999 non-Pro based Vivo X60 that loses the gimbal stabilisation feature is still a hard choice against the ASUS and Xiaomi options. So let's take a look at the Vivo X60 series' strong suit. At the $1,000 price point, Vivo's options excel in its attention to design, handling and extreme battery life. Also, if you're a Vivo fan and this is a logical upgrade for you, hop over to their official Shopee e-store to get one.

The Vivo X60 Pro has upped the cameraphone game with the addition of ZEISS Vario-Tessar lenses, Gimbal stabilisation 2.0 and a cute rotating Biotar bokeh effect. It is also one of the best-looking smartphones we have seen. To give you an idea of how good its camera is, DXOMark gives the X60 Pro+ (has a periscope zoom in addition to the X60 Pro lenses) 128 – a score reserved for Apple iPhone 12 Pro/Max and just three points off the incredible OPPO Find X3 Pro camera. Yet this costs a mere $1099 against the best at >$1500. We will come to the camera later, but you need to know that there are no obvious or hidden downsides to saving $500 by purchasing this impressive device. The highlights are Qualcomm SD870, Gimbal camera and a 120Hz, HDR10+, Gorilla Glass 6, AMOLED screen that is a sheer delight in its almost 19.8:9 tall and thin format.

The audio quality also did no favours to the Vivo phone. If anything, medium-to-heavy users of music and videos would likely consider another device based on this alone. That leaves us with its excellent form factor and amazing battery life. Its longevity may satisfy some folks, but buyers would also need to consider if they can say no to the ASUS ZenFone 8’s imaging quality, or the 1440p display on Xiaomi Mi 11, or perhaps the Samsung Galaxy S21’s robust ecosystem and UI polish. The Vivo X60 Pro is no game of two halves, it's an outright winner. The design is largely on point, in particular that soft-touch rear finish, and while its cameras aren't as all-singing, all-dancing as the Zeiss badge on the camera unit might suggest, the main snapper is certainly capable enough. Even the software is largely like stock Google Android, with only minor bouts of foul play - like rare blank notification hiccups - showing its typically inconsistent competition, such as Xiaomi, how things can be done. What's particularly standout about the X60 Pro, however, is the gimbal camera system - delivering stabilisation for video capture that's unlike what any other phone company can muster. The smoothness is mightly impressive, making for a striking feature. Sure, the X60 Pro is a timely launch for Vivo, given Euro 2020, but this isn't a device that only sells itself through the company name being splashed around stadium ad boards, its one that sells itself on sheer ability. Like the X60 Pro+ variant, the X60 Pro 5G (Exynos) is quad-camera device, with dual tele-lenses and an ultra-wide complementing the main camera. Sensor and lens specs differ between the two models, however. That, combined with the change in chipset and image processing pipeline, should make for an interesting comparison between the two devices.

Instead of going after the current crop of megabucks flagships, the X60 Pro is well-placed to shake things up in the mid-tier. It's a great-looking handset with a gimbal-stabilised camera that really helps it stand out from similarly-priced rivals. Prospective buyers should ask themselves how much video they actually shoot on their smartphone, though. It's not so competitive in other areas, and offers little else that you won't find in alternatives like OnePlus, Xiaomi or even Samsung. Given those brands will all be more familiar to UK customers, it makes the X60 Pro that bit harder to recommend, despite being so well-rounded.

The Vivo X60 Pro is a phone that I think will find a lot of takers, simply because it is priced right. Despite not being the flagship of the series, it manages to sacrifice precious little in the end. I think a value-conscious market like India will appreciate the balance this phone has managed to achieve. Vivo does, however, need to rethink FunTouch OS, starting with the name but more deeply with the inclusion of unescapable paid content and app pushes. Vivo: please start sparing the Pro and Pro+ versions of your phones from this. People have paid extra for a better device, charge them a little more so you don’t have to push this content onto them.

There are lingering question marks over its price and availability so I won't be scoring the Vivo X60 Pro yet, but as it stands this is a unique upper-mid-range/entry-flagship phone with a remarkably stable camera, a highly desirable design and solid performance. It isn't the best-specced phone in its class, however, and for all its camera charms it doesn’t take the best photos. As a value proposition, we suspect it’s going to struggle against the altogether more capable OnePlus 9. But for those looking for something a little different in a rather samey field, it’s a sleek and stylish alternative.

There is no doubt in my mind that the Vivo X60 Pro has the best design in all the flagship devices I have tested so far this year. It feels extremely premium in the hand and at the same time, it’s been constructed with durability in mind. There is very little to complain about in the performance department apart from the unusual heating of the device during some heavy-ended graphics-based usage. The cameras are also exceptional, especially when you compare the low-light capabilities to some of the competing devices. Apart from that, the X60 Pro’s superlative display matches up to industry standards and packs in all the features that you could possibly want. Could the haptics have been better? Most definitely. The battery life is nothing to write home about and the lack of wireless charging or an official IP rating makes me question the price tag. FunTouch is in a state of improvement and still has some way to go.

All in all, the vivo X60 Pro was pretty fun to use and it feels premium. Despite that, some may argue that vivo is asking a lot for the device considering that it is priced at RM3,299. Don’t get me wrong though as the Snapdragon 870 is still a powerful SoC, but I just feel that they should offer more for the price.

Comentario
Qualcomm Adreno 650:
