Xiaomi 11i 5G is a well-rounded mid-range phone that's got quite a lot going for it. Despite the (totally unnecessary) new name, it's still a Redmi device that continues the lineup's tradition of offering solid value. You get a fairly good 120Hz OLED panel, loud speakers, and of course, that 67W fast-charging gives you a few hours of battery life in barely fifteen minutes. But even with all of that, it's not without flaws. The cameras just about get the job done, Xiaomi's messy update schedule doesn't inspire confidence, and that MediaTek chipset—though powerful—means you'll probably never see a custom ROM. Then there's the fact that the market is already overflowing with competing smartphones that are just as good as the 11i 5G. For example, Samsung's Galaxy M52 5G also gives you a 120Hz Super AMOLED display and a 5,000mAh battery at a similar price, and it will get comparatively excellent update support. Then there's OnePlus Nord 2 5G, which has a better SoC and comparable 65W fast-charging tech, while only being a little more expensive.

Today we’re taking a look at the Xiaomi Mi11i, the budget flagship device from the Chinese device maker. Coming in at just $499 when it first launched, the Mi 11i offers a laundry list of premium specs with some smart omissions to keep costs low. You may not have heard of the Mi 11i unless you’re an Android enthusiast, and there’s good reason for that; it’s hard to come by here in the United States. You can’t officially purchase the device in the States so you must go through an importer, which can add fees and delays to any purchase. Those are factors that you have to take into consideration when looking for a device at this highly competitive price tag. The Mi 11i goes up against other great devices like the Samsung Galaxy A72, Realmet GT 5G, and the ZTE Axon 30 Pro. Everything in that list could be a flagship phone replacement so where does the Xiaomi Mi 11i stand out? Let’s take a look.

It’s a fresh year, and Xiaomi has launched the Xiaomi 11i, the company’s latest smartphone series. Xiaomi’s first smartphone series for 2022 includes a number of interesting features. The phone has a MediaTek Dimensity 920 processor, 7 5G bands, a fresh design, and an excellent camera. The issue is that the MediaTek Dimensity 920 isn’t optimised for most games, which is why you can only play BGMI with smooth and high graphics. The Xiaomi 11i has a large 5,120mAh battery with 67W fast charging support, and additionally, the 67W charger is included in the box. So, the million-dollar question is: Is the Xiaomi 11i a smart buy? Should you choose the Xiaomi 11i or the Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge? Let’s find the answers to these questions in our full review.

The device shows many frame mismatches at 30 fps and some frame mismatches at 60 fps, though no frame drops are visible when playing games; motion blur is well managed. After moving forwards or backwards in the timeline, playback is delayed and sometimes slower than it should be for a few seconds after resuming. The Xiaomi Mi 11i is not accurate when zooming in the gallery app. It is smooth when playing video games but lacks smoothness when browsing the web and when scrolling in the gallery. Judder is noticeable; nevertheless, although it also occasionally responds to ghost touches, the Mi 11i provides a comfortable, precise, and smooth gaming experience, and manages aliasing well.

The general state of Xiaomi's software updates isn't ideal. The brand mentioned it will roll out MIUI 13 to the 11i soon, but it didn't share any details as to how soon the update will be available. And while Xiaomi's high-end phones and value flagships now get three years of platform updates, the Xiaomi 11i isn't on that list. So while there is a lot that the 11i gets right on the hardware front and charging tech, it doesn't deliver in the areas that matter, and that ultimately makes it a poor recommendation in a category that fields dozens of great products. Xiaomi is trying to differentiate the 11i with its 120W fast charging, but that alone doesn't make up for omissions in other areas. The phone runs Android 11 out of the box, the cameras aren't quite as good as its immediate rivals, and Xiaomi itself has other options in this category that deliver better value.

The Xiaomi Mi 11i follows in the 11 Ultra’s audio footsteps: While its playback showing is decent, its recording performance is quite noteworthy — especially considering the phone’s price range. As a recording device, thanks to excellent volume and timbre aspects as well as both immersive and realistic spatial attributes, the Mi 11i ensures a very good sound quality across nearly every situation, from meeting room configurations to big, loud concert scenarios. And just like its luxurious elder brother, the only use case truly out of its comfort zone is filming selfie videos!

As mentioned in the Camera section, Xiaomi’s Mi 11i hits its marks perfectly but without any outstanding features or letdowns for €649. It will get you through the day with ease and recharge in a decently quick time, there’s a vibrant display, and the cameras are up to the job of documenting your memories. All-in-all, you’ll be happy with Xiaomi’s Mi 11i in your pocket without feeling the need to show off any of its features, which is what tends to happen when manufacturers flesh out their product ranges by rebranding other models. It’s a shame because in its own right, the Mi 11i is a very good phone it’s just that it’s overshadowed by every other member of the Mi 11 family in one way or another.

In the Xiaomi smartphone lineup, the Mi 11i is a slightly more affordable alternative to the standard Mi 11, featuring a smaller and lower-res screen than the latter, as well as an 8 MP ultra-wide camera instead of the Mi 11’s 13 MP variant. Other than that, the camera specs are identical, including the large 108 MP sensor in the primary module. The Mi 11i is also the international version of the China-only Redmi K40 Pro+ that we tested previously.

Undoubtedly, Xiaomi Mi 11i is a good, inexpensive flagship. The company managed to create a smartphone that combines strong components, good multimedia solutions (display, speakers) and a decent main camera. As always, software is a controversial issue and everyone should form their own opinion. One thing is certain: Xiaomi Mi 11i is a flagship smartphone that will remain relevant for many years to come.

The Mi 11i is, on the one hand, a confusing entry to Xiaomi's series because it adds yet another handset to the Mi 11 line-up. And that muddies the waters between the standard Mi 11 and the Mi 11 Lite 5G - the latter which we'd buy beyond both others given its preferable design. On the other hand, the Mi 11i doesn't get anything truly wrong, per se, it functions smoothly as there's heaps of power - which is a reason you'd consider it above and beyond more budget contenders, such as the Redmi Note 10 Pro. Using the Mi 11i feels largely effortless, but as it's an exercise in market flooding there's also no distinctive reason to opt for one.

The Xiaomi Mi 11i offers a compelling alternative to the OnePlus 9, with competitive flagship-level performance, a vibrant and fluid display, and a 108-megapixel camera, all for a little less money. It seems to have been cobbled together from bits of other phones, however, which gives it a somewhat generic feel, while its 108-megapixel camera isn’t quite as advanced as it first seems. It’s a distant and altogether less beguiling cousin to the rest of the Mi 11 family, but it certainly has its talents.

Behold the Xiaomi Mi 11i! “Wait, what? Another one?” you might cry out in amazement. The Mi 11 family is a big one, for sure, and sometimes it’s hard to find your way around all the cousins and aunts, metaphorically speaking. The Xiaomi Mi 11i is a trimmed-down version of the Mi 11, but it’s not just that. It’s solid proof that the “affordable flagship” trend in mobile is alive and kicking. Even though it’s mainly Taiwanese and Chinese brands trying to pull it off nowadays.

As for the Mi 11X Pro, in its own local context, we'd say it makes more sense. It's the best-priced entry into the world of SD888 performance, which can be reason enough for some buyers. And even if it's missing NFC and a dedicated tele camera, it's got enough merits in key areas to deserve your attention.

The Mi 11X Pro gets the fundamentals right – you’re getting an incredible display, a top-class chipset under the hood, decent cameras and an exciting design. However, Xiaomi needs to tone down MIUI a little, at least for its premium offerings. Nevertheless, Mi 11X Pro is one hell of a smartphone for its price of Rs. 39,999. It offers an excellent value for money against its competition. If we were to judge, then the Mi 11X Pro tick all the boxes to crowned as the ‘flagship killer’ of 2021.

Qualcomm Adreno 660:
