Análisis para el Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime

Unless you are into photography, the Redmi 3S Prime is a solid all-round performer. It delivers an IPS screen, metal-clad body, capable GPU, and fingerprint sensor at budget. More importantly, it offers phenomenal battery life. All things considered, priced at Rs 9000, the Redmi 3S Prime the best smartphone in this segment. However, to buy one, you need a great deal of patience to put up with Xiaomi's incredibly annoying weekly flash sales.

As an entry-level device, the Redmi 3S Prime has nearly no competition except for a few devices from the Lenovo K5 series or the Honor 5C. However, for just another $15, Xiaomi's very own Redmi Note 3 is a much better deal due to a higher resolution screen, a more capable chipset and a better camera.

When I used the Redmi Note 3 earlier this year, I did not think that I would come across such a game-changing handset any time soon. However, the Redmi 3S, just like its bigger brother, is a game changer in its category. At the price point it sells (Rs 9,000), you are not going to find any other handset that is able to offer the same level of performance, build quality, and battery life.

The overall package looks smart and conveys a solid new competitor to the sub-$150 price band. What might entice consumers to consider this phone in the bucket list is that this phone doesn't have a large 5.5-inch display, and is consequently easy to use in daily activities.

The Redmi 3S does, however, live in the shadow of the Redmi Note 3. Unlike its superstar elder sibling that just can't stop itself from breaking sales records and is the phone to buy in that price range, the case for the 3S isn't quite as clear cut. We have now gotten used to Xiaomi phones offering hardware well above their price range but that's not quite the case with the 3S. Using the 3S, there was nothing about it that stood out to us, other than the battery life. It's not a phone that's out to impress you and go above and beyond what you expect at its price range. Everything it does seems just about what you would expect from a phone that costs as much.

I’m pleasantly surprised by the device. The design is excellent, the hardware is very well balanced and even the performance feels great for a budget smartphone. The hero feature is definitely the massive battery, something which almost every smartphone user would love and appreciate. The camera and the UI are the only let downs but you are paying less than ten grand, so even that’s acceptable. The Redmi 3S Prime is once again an excellent smartphone from Xiaomi and is also the best smartphone to buy under a budget of Rs. 10,000.

The only criteria when deciding between the Redmi 3S and the Redmi Note 3 should be the screen size – you decide if you want a handset with 5 inch screen or 5.5 inch screen. 3S is Batman’s robin (Batman = Redmi Note 3). There is not much off a price difference between the 3S Prime and the Note 3 (2GB), makes sense to go for Redmi Note 3, however the Redmi 3S without finger print sensor for Rs. 6,999 is excellent buy in case you ignore the finger print sensor.

The overall package looks smart and brings a strong new contender to the sub-Rs. 10,000 price segment. What might attract people more than all that is that this phone doesn't have a large 5.5-inch display, and is therefore easy to use in daily life. Those looking for alternatives to the Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime can go for the Asus ZenFone Max (2016) (Review) which sells for the same price. If you want a larger screen and a bit more performance, you could also go for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 which is available at a slight premium compared to the Redmi 3S Prime.

At a price point of Rs. 8,999, the Redmi 3S Prime represents tremendous value for money. Yes, the display isn’t the best around and the camera could be a bit better but they are far from the worst in the category. Moreover, performance for day-to-day use is good enough and the battery life is phenomenal. You’d be well served by stepping up to the Prime variant of the Redmi 3S for the additional RAM, storage and the very useful fingerprint scanner.
