If you're not beholden to Windows, the 13in MacBook Air, which is available with a similar specification to the Z830 at a similar price, is still our preferred ultra-portable laptop, but Ultrabooks are slowly catching up.

My biggest complaint, though, has to be against the Z835’s lack of stability. I had far more than my fair share of inexplicable problems simply installing apps and more getting them to run successfully. While all the crashes were eventually recoverable, I found I wasted a lot of time troubleshooting issues I really shouldn’t have had to deal with at all.

It's insanely light at 2.48 lbs. and very thin. In short, it's a real pleasure to carry. That diet has a drawback or two though: there's lots of lid flex and the notebook has a hollow feel to it when you press surfaces.

So for those who want a true ultrabook experience, the Toshiba Portégé Z830 is a definite buy, despite the slightly high price tag.
