When the world ends in a nuclear glow or a flood of melted icecaps, the final remaining life will be bacteria in the vents of undersea volcanoes and the last piece of technology to give up the ghost will surely be a ThinkPad. When Lenovo took over IBM’s PC and laptop division it raised a question about the future of the ThinkPad brand, so your reviewer is as pleased as punch to get his hands on his first Lenovo-made ThinkPad. Let’s start with the important stuff. We like the Lenovo T61 a great deal and are happy to report that, in this instance at least, the changeover from IBM to Lenovo appears to have gone seamlessly.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T61 continues the tradition of the reliable line of notebooks. The additional roll cage design helps improve the sturdiness of an already highly reliable product. This versions smaller 14.1" screen reduces the overall size for increased portability without sacrificing features. This makes a excellent business PC and should also be considered for a long term notebook investment for the home.

Standard aspect ratio business notebooks are becoming more difficult to purchase these days from different manufacturers, but Lenovo has pulled through for another generation with the ThinkPad T61. The 14" 4:3 T61 is one of the last models of its kind on the market, and it is still every bit as durable and refined as the models before it. Comparing the outside of the 14.1" T61 to the older T60, it's hard to figure out what all has changed. One clue that may stand out depending on how familiar you are with the hinge setup, is the left hinge is wider than the right hinge. Another subtle change that many diehard Thinkpad users will notice is the sticker has changed from being the older multi-color IBM logo, to just "ThinkPad Tseries". Other than that no visible changes have been made. Internally the 14" T-Series has gained a new LCD roll cage, which helps significantly to reduce screen lid flex, and ripples from pressing hard behind the screen.

Overall, I was really pleased with the T60. I hate Windows Vista with a passion, so the fact that it was installed detracted from the overall experience slightly, but I realize that this is no fault of Lenovo so they shouldn’t be penalized for it. I really liked the concept of the Intel AMT tools, and really would have liked to have tested them out. If they work as well as they should, this could be a great help to any IT staff. The structural improvements (namely, the top roll cage and spill proof keyboard) were nice extras that will help protect the user’s investment in case of clumsiness, and with the amount of candidates for Darwin awards these days, this is a very good thing! The improved cooling system was another great addition, and shows thatLenovo is always thinking ahead on ways to improve their product. Stagnation = bad! On the hardware side, I was impressed with how speedy and responsive the T61 was, with its Core 2 Duo T7400 (2.40GHz, 800MHz FSB, 4MB L2 Cache) and 2GB RAM.

Our favorite business notebook, the latest ThinkPad offers increased power, improved durability, and more features in the same thin-and-light design that frequent travelers love. You can't tell by looking at the familiar squared-off matte-black chassis, but the Lenovo ThinkPad T61 delivers dozens of subtle improvements that make it the widescreen machine to beat among thin-and-light business notebooks. This 5.2-pound classic isn't perfect, but it's darn close. Behind the 14.1-inch screen, Lenovo has added a magnesium-alloy inner shell to better protect the display, similar to the internal rollcage added to the bottom of the chassis a few years ago. Lenovo claims that the screen is now 25 percent more resistant to breakage than previous models. The 1440 x 900-pixel widescreen was plenty bright and delivered crisp, vibrant images.

The good: Internal roll cage protects LCD; 802.11n Wi-Fi for faster wireless throughput; very small A/C adaptor adds little to overall travel weight; Intel's Active Management Technology provides remote support. The bad: New Centrino technology doesn't offer outsize performance gains. The bottom line: Lenovo's 14-inch ThinkPad T61 shaves a few millimeters off the company's more mainstream R-series laptops, but still boasts the same, solid ThinkPad DNA along with IT-friendly features by way of Intel's new Centrino Pro platform.

The ThinkPad T61 14.1" widescreen notebook is easy to recommend as a laptop for those that want a highly durable system that provides powerful performance while on the go. The new cooling system design works wonders for keeping the temperature of the notebook down below 50C and limiting the need for the fan to run. The keyboard is as excellent as ever, the sturdy build is great, and the new port options are appreciated. I'd like to see a brighter screen option, in strong office lighting situations the screen can appear pretty washed out. Overall though the ThinkPad T61 does a great job of combining excellent usability features and performance, keeping the T-series well established as the leading portable business notebook.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Widescreen is the best business laptop for those who love widescreens. A standard-screen model will be available with the same powerful Centrino Duo components. Fastest Intel components available. Excellent performance scores. Very good 3D scores. Fast hard drive. EV-DO antenna is now hidden. Fabulous keyboard and dual pointing devices. Lightweight chassis. Batteries are not compatible with previous T60s. You'll need to upgrade the battery.

When Lenovo took over IBM's PC and laptop business in 2004 (web ID: 66772), the results were anxiously awaited by fans of the legendary ThinkPad range. What would happen once control passed from the Americans to the Chinese? Any hunt for cost-cutting measures could well have put pay to years of flag-waving quality. But the transition is now complete - the T61 is the first ThinkPad in PC Pro not to feature the IBM logo at all - and we're relieved to say that the ThinkPad range is none the worse for it. When IBM sold off its PC and laptop business, the price evidently included a few design secrets; the matte-black styling hasn't changed for years and Lenovo has wisely left the keyboard unchanged. Large, well-spaced keys with a good amount of travel make touch-typing almost a thrill, all in a chassis that feels capable of withstanding almost anything. However, in a world of waif-like Sony notebooks, the T61 is a little lumbering: 2.3kg and an LCD bezel measuring 20mm at the top are hardly seductive vital statistics.

The T61p is light for a power laptop at 6.5 pounds minimum weight. It comes in the signature ThinkPad black and with the signature keyboard our reviewers consistently find so comfortable to use. It has both a touchpad and an eraserhead as well as convenient hardware buttons for Wi-Fi, volume, and forward-and-back for your browser. It also has a blue ThinkVantage button for quick access to troubleshooting utilities. The T61p is a great business notebook for those who need lots of power and features, and the fact that it's environmentally friendly and efficient (to a degree) helps make the purchase easier to justify.

Lenovo’s ThinkPad T61p is the company’s top-of-the-line desktop replacement notebook. It’s not ultra-portable, nor is it necessarily for mom and dad. This is a hardcore, power-user notebook with extremely high-end specifications, making it a bleeding edge notebook that’s as future proof as notebooks get. We reviewed the T60p back in April of this year, and now that it’s been revamped and up-armored, it’s time to take another look. When we first lifted the T61p out of the box, it felt a bit heavy given its thin dimensions. We’ve handled hundreds, if not thousands, of notebooks in our day, and this one feels very solid, thin, and a bit heavy. The ThinkPad line has always been considered one of the most sturdy, if not the most sturdy, line of notebooks, and it’s not by accident. The T61p feels like it’s made of very solid materials and would last through years of use and abuse.

The T61p is the first widescreen ThinkPad mobile workstation, and the latest high-end offering from Lenovo. It comes with almost every feature a demanding business user could want, and is starting at a very reasonable price point below 1400 for the 14.1” model. This model has also gone under a number of changes from the previous generation, and in this ThinkPad T61p review you will find out how it stacks up.
The ThinkPad T61p comes in two sizes, one being 14.1” and the model being reviewed at 15.4”. The key difference between both these lines, besides screen size, is the memory size of the NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M video card included with the system. You receive a 128MB card in the smaller 14.1” model, and double the memory at 256MB in the 15.4” model. The processor selection is the same, spanning from the Intel T7100 to T7700, memory from 1GB to 4GB, and hard drives from 60GB to 160GB in 5400 or 7200rpm flavors.

Two months after we reviewed the Lenovo ThinkPad T61, the company released the ThinkPad T61p, a mobile workstation that features a faster processor, higher-end discrete graphics, and a sharper-resolution display for business users who want a laptop that can handle data- or graphics-intensive applications. The higher-end components proved capable of heavy lifting on our performance benchmark tests, without negatively affecting battery life. Extra muscle aside, the ThinkPad T61p shares all the features found across the ThinkPad line: a sturdy (if boxy) case, an excellent keyboard, and the helpful ThinkVantage suite of support and configuration tools. The ThinkPad T61p isn't for everyone--in fact, many users' needs can be met with less-expensive systems--but video and graphics professionals and other power users will find what they need within the ThinkPad T61p's slender, portable case.

If the Lenovo ThinkPad T61p were a car, it would be known in street-racer circles as a sleeper: no glossy paint, no chrome trim--just a plain-Jane exterior with enough horsepower to blow the doors off all comers. Add in the ThinkPad line's excellent manageability, top-notch security, and standard three-year warranty, and you have a high-powered workstation for business users who value substance over in-your-face style. And at $2,288 for our tested configuration, it's also reasonably priced. The T61p comes wrapped in the classic (a nicer word for dull) matte-black cloak we've come to expect; while it's not contemporary, at least it's smudge-proof. The 15.4-inch widescreen and extended nine-cell battery hanging off the back (the standard six-cell sits flush) give the machine a large footprint and makes the 6.2-pound unit feel a little tippy in the hand.

One for all. The models of the T-series made by Lenovo were always the solid base of the complete product range. With display sizes of 14.1" and 15.4", equipped with current and if desired also powerful hardware, the current T-models can cover a wide range between mobility and performance. Combined with typical Thinkpad qualities, they are still serious contenders among business notebooks.

Set amongst notebook style icons such as Dell’s Adamo or Apple’s Macbook Pro 13, the Lenovo T500 looks strikingly out of place. Indeed, like a time-traveller from the 1980s shot unceremoniously into 2009, the T500’s dowdy, textured black physique could almost be a museum exhibit of how laptops once used to look. A pricier version of Lenovo’s T500 has been our second-choice A-list business laptop for some time now, and this model follows in those footsteps. It isn't stylish, but if you want a practical, comfortable business laptop that’s built to last, you won't be disappointed by the Lenovo T500.

Lenovo's ThinkPad T series of laptops has been extremely popular with corporations but they also work well for consumers. The New ThinkPad T500 is an updated platform that uses the same durable case and design as previous models. Performance is superb for this platform although it is a bit more expensive. Some users will be really happy of the Windows XP downgrade included because of its corporate focus that still primarily uses the OS.

The Lenovo T500 as a whole is a great step up from the T61, with a faster processor lineup, much better graphics card, better cooling, larger touchpad, and even a digital video output from the notebook itself. System performance was phenomenal, coming close to workstation or gaming notebook levels. What is not so great is the famed ThinkPad keyboard going floppy on us where they used to be rock solid. No matter if this change was to cut weight or cut costs, Lenovo should have known better not to mess with the most important part of ANY ThinkPad notebook. Don't get me wrong, the keyboard is still much nicer than a budget notebook keyboard, it just isn't as good as what it used to be. Overall the Lenovo ThinkPad T500 is a fine notebook worthy of a spot on many office or dormroom tables, but it could have come closer to perfection if Lenovo didn't mess with the keyboard.

Almost 10 hours of runtime with the extended battery easily puts this laptop into the all-day computing section. System performance with the Intel T9400 processor & ATI 3470 graphics was great, handling everything they threw at it, even some video games. The T400 is not without its flaws though, having a decent amount of keyboard flex as well as a keyboard light that blinds you. Even with its flaws, with a beginning price under $1,000 this laptop easily outperforms any other pc in its section.

While the Lenovo ThinkPad T400 isn’t exactly hip or something you’ll choose to win looks at a coffee shop, it is certainly practical and a laptop that is built to last. If you’re heading into a professional school such as law, business or medicine it might also fit the scene better there than say a bright blue colored Dell or Sony. Reliability and durability should certainly be a major factor in purchasing a laptop, and the ThinkPad T400 meets that requirement. The 14-inch screen size is a sweet spot for a balance between portability and having enough screen real estate to be productive. There is a lot of room to configure the T400 to your needs and budget at Lenovo.com so take advantage of that, and also take advantage of the fact Lenovo offers a student discount to many colleges that can save you 5% or so off the cost of any ThinkPad.

The high brightness display option on the updated T400 looks excellent and doesn’t take a huge bite out of your battery under normal activities. With most high brightness screens the power consumption is high even at lower brightness settings and what we found with the T400 is the impact on the battery is minimal at worst. On the 6-cell battery we managed 5 hours and 58 minutes of battery life, right on the mark with the previous T400 that used hybrid graphics. The updated keyboard support is my favorite change, knowing that Lenovo listened to feedback from users and improved the design. Overall, if you are in the market for a business notebook that is usable in direct sunlight, the T400 with the high nit screen option is the way to go.

Lenovo has presented a worthy successor to the T61 series with the T400. Every piece of the hardware, from the processor to the RAM to the HDD, was a solid choice by Lenovo and performed well under our testing. The battery life was excellent, in part thanks to unique features like Switchable Graphics, which let you switch between integrated graphics and the dedicated 256MB GPU at will. The brightly lit WXGA+ display was easy on the eyes and there were just enough peripherals (fingerprint reader, webcam, keyboard light) to keep us interested. Further, it was portable enough that we didn’t think twice about carrying it all over the office. Overall the computer was a great worker and did everything we asked, even if it didn’t drop our jaw with anything too astounding.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T410s is an interesting notebook acting as a stopgap between the smaller 13.3" ultraportable X301 and the full-size 14.1-inch T410. With a super thin body that still retains its optical drive the T410s gives you most features of the larger T410 minus about 2lbs of extra bulk. With that weight savings you lose the extended 9-cell battery, faster GPU and CPU options, and wider range of compatible hard drives. For most business clients this wouldn't be a problem since weight can be a huge factor when looking at a notebook. Overall some areas could have been better, like the 4+ hours of battery life where the previous version managed almost 6, and the lackluster screen with a poor contrast ratio. Users looking for the best possible battery life-as well as higher performance-should really consider the SSD upgrade, as the 1.8-inch hard drive left us asking for more. In the end with the right options the T410s can be one of the perfect business companions with almost all the features of the larger ThinkPad T410.

The Lenovo Thinkpad T400s range sells for Rs. 90,000. It also comes with three years' warranty. At that price, it's not targeted at the budget-conscious businessperson who will be buying the Dell Vostro V13 or the HP ProBook 4520s. Instead, the Lenovo Thinkpad T400s attracts small, medium business and enterprise customers who are interested in a robust, rugged, light, slim, easy-to-carry 14-inch laptop that offers decent performance, has a very good keyboard-touchpad combo, and comes with useful proprietary software to better manage their laptop and secure the data on it.

Ultimately this is the addition of some interesting, and potentially useful, technology to a very good notebook. It’s an option, not standard equipment, so if it doesn’t appeal to you then you don’t have to get it. At $400 it’s not something that too many people will be trying, unless you have a very effective way of taking advantage of the touch system. Multi-touch will be a bigger upgrade for the X200 tablet which will be getting a considerable boost in features where on the T400s it doesn’t feel like much more than a cool toy tacked on to an already complete computer.

At the very top-end of the market, Lenovo has also been producing top-notch machines, including the W700ds that took our Labs Winner and A-list awards in last issue's Ultimate Laptops group test. So we were keen to see how the mid-range T400s would perform.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T400s is one of the first Windows 7 notebooks to have a multi touch display, and it’s fast at running most productivity applications. It has the signature ThinkPad look and solid build, a great keyboard and a good camera for web conferencing. Though not the center of the design for a business notebook, the multi touch feature shows lots of potential and the Lenovo SimpleTap interface demonstrates that well. The ThinkPad has great power for video and music playback. We highly recommend that you get the SSD option for fast OS tasks and multimedia. If you don’t need the multi touch screen however, get the other model in the T400s series that’s a few hundred bucks less.

The Lenovo T400s Thinkpad is a sturdy business notebook for a high-flying executive or businessman that needs the protection and connectivity options that it offers. The most important thing in a computer is the data and the sturdy casing is capable of protecting this important asset. The video output and display controls will be handy during a presentation. And the varied connectivity options allows the user to stay connected to the Internet. The only grouse is, with the high price, it should have included a dedicated graphics chip. In the end, the ThinkPad T400s Multi-Touch is a fast, solid and snappy machine that's somewhat overpriced. When you start a machine at $2000, you best bring everything and the kitchen sink. The integrated GPU should be tossed at this price point considering the competition. While we understand that multi-touch input and the associated interface that Lenovo supplies are nice extras, this package is tough to justify at about a $400 up-charge. If you could convert this machine into a tablet and use it that way, we could possibly justify the price. But as it stands today, the multi-touch display is nothing more than a functional novelty. You'll be perfectly fine without it, and your wallet will be better off for skipping it.40

The Lenovo ThinkPad T400s Touch is a very cool idea, bringing a touch interface to a standard notebook. It gives users the capability to interact with the computer on a much more natural level and has huge potential for CAD applications or even messing around while surfing the web. The only problem right now that I see is that it was added to an already expensive model, putting it well out of reach for most users. Adding it on the base T400, which starts $749, instead of the T400s which starts at $1,599 would have been the better choice. Besides some preproduction quirks we saw it was a good implementation that didn't even affect battery life. If you are looking at the T400s currently, and could expand the budget by $400, it might be worth adding to the notebook for future uses.

Lenovo's ThinkPad brand is virtually synonymous with business laptops, and the company (like IBM before it) has spent years perfecting the nondescript black-box system, with its iconic TrackPoint and double set of mouse buttons. We liked the 14-inch T400s ("s" for "slim") when we first saw it earlier this year (see that review), as it shaved some thickness and weight off the older T400 model. Now Lenovo is offering an enhanced version of the T400s, adding a multitouch touch screen and some custom touch-screen software. A revamped version of Lenovo's slim ThinkPad T400s adds an innovative touch-screen package to the first Windows 7 laptop we've reviewed.

This touch-enabled business notebook performs well, but it carries a hefty premium. The Lenovo ThinkPad T400s with touch packs the same groundbreaking performance as its nontouch sibling, and combines a responsive capacitive screen with simple but effective touch software. That said, we don’t think the significant increase in bulk and price are worth it for the average business user. If you plan to use a touch-specific app like SpaceClaim, it might make sense to pay the $400 premium and learn to live with the added weight and thickness. However, if you mostly use your notebook for Office apps and the Web, you’re better off with the original ThinkPad T400s.

Not too long ago, we raved about the Lenovo ThinkPad T400s, the thinnest, lightest—and in our opinion, best—14.1-inch thin-and-light notebook on the market. Now Lenovo has followed up that model with the ThinkPad T400s Multi-Touch. Set to debut with the launch of Windows 7 in October, the T400s Multi-Touch adds a touch screen to take advantage of the new operating system’s native touch-computing abilities. Add in a handy touch-enabled utility by Lenovo, and the ThinkPad T400s Multi-Touch delivers everything we loved about the original, and then some. Mobile professionals, exult: Windows 7 and advanced touch-screen capabilities make the best business thin-and-light on the market even better.

In terms of performance the T400s is a solid machine thanks to its 2.4GHz dual-core CPU, 2Gbytes of DDR3 memory and quick, not to mention large, 120Gbyte SSD drive. These components helped the Lenovo score very well in our PCMark Vantage tests. For starters it returned a high Productivity suite score of 8074, while the Main score of 5248 was also very impressive, as were all the other test numbers. Owning to the rather basic onboard video however, the T400s isn’t exactly a graphics powerhouse. A well rounded business notebook that is only held back by its higher than average end user price.

Nobody does notebooks better. Most of the time Lenovo makes solidly capable systems, whether style-conscious consumer models like the IdeaPad Y450 or corporate fleet fodder like the ThinkPad T400 and T500. But every so often, Lenovo lets its engineers loose on a showpiece and we end up swooning like schoolgirls at a Jonas Brothers concert. Fourteen months ago, it was the 13.3-inch ThinkPad X300/X301, and we gushed, "Best notebook ever." Now it's the 14.1-inch ThinkPad T400s. Brace yourself. The s stands for swoon. All told, the T400s is simply another of the simply exceptional notebooks that Lenovo produces on a regular basis. The older, chunkier ThinkPad T400 is still available starting at $749, but if your company gives you one your boss is either on a tight budget or doesn't like you very much.

Overall I think Lenovo put a lot of time into thinking through the changes they made with the T400s so they wouldn't offend too many ThinkPad customers. The keyboard change is significant, but for all intents and purposes they stuck with the tried-and-true design. The keys feel the same, the core layout is the same, the only thing that changed were the function and media keys. Even though the keys look weird at first it takes about 3 seconds to adapt to the new layout. I think the super slim and lightweight design is excellent, moving to a layout that is easier to service by the end-user

When a big company feels inclined to mess with a classic, it had better get it right—just ask Coca-Cola. Lenovo has introduced a new version of its iconic T-series, the best-selling business laptop series ever and the progenitor of the “thin-and-light” portable category.
The ThinkPad T400s has a starting price of $1,599. That’s no budget entry, but given the standard features, the price is reasonable. If you travel frequently and want the thinnest, lightest no-compromises laptop available, the T400s is worth every penny.

The wheels were set in motion for the advent of the ThinkPad T400s ($1,995 direct) the minute Lenovo launched the ThinkPad X300 (and subsequently, the X301). A larger version of that highly sought-after 13-inch business ultraportable was the next logical step. At the same time, though, the flagship ThinkPad T400 desperately needed an update, so it's fitting their paths would intersect. Lenovo just added an "s" to the model name, but the system changes are dramatic. The ThinkPad T400s takes the X300's exquisitely thin dimensions and widens them with a 14-inch LED widescreen. The Lenovo ThinkPad T400s is a big-screen iteration of the ThinkPad X300 and commands the same kind of awe.

The ThinkPad T400s delivers as well as, or in some cases better than, previous ThinkPads. It should also set the standard for 14-inch widescreen notebooks in the industry and show up most competitors, even if the pricing is not entirely comparable. Performance is snappy as ever and the T400s has nearly every feature in the book, even adding a few new ones that will hopefully become more common.

Although Lenovo has been reinventing itself as of late with its IdeaPad and Netbook lines, they're still a company known for boxy, business-end ThinkPads. There's no shame there: the ThinkPad was revolutionary in its time, and the iconic (if plain) design defined the modern business laptop. It also put Lenovo on the map after taking the brand over from IBM. The T400s is the lightest 14-inch ThinkPad yet from Lenovo--just be ready to pay for the convenience.

With the T400s laptop, Lenovo proves that size matters by heaping on features, cutting the girth, and building a lean, mean business machine. Starting at $1599, the Lenovo ThinkPad T400s can be a compelling little laptop. Of course, once you start adding all the bells and whistles, the price kicks up significantly (our model, as reviewed, sells for $2130). Still, thanks to sturdy construction and great performance packed inside a slim profile, the T400s is a winner, and great for the jet-setter who wants a little more out of their mobile machine.

Lenovo's new ThinkPad T400s business laptop is their smallest and lightest of the T series and borders on the territory of their ultraportable X series. Weighing just 3.9 pounds and less than an inch thick, this is a system that can be taken just about anywhere. About the only drawbacks are the fairly high $1599 starting price and the lack of a dedicated graphics.

Overall, Lenovo did a great job of getting the best selling ThinkPad, the T400, and refining the design while shaving off some weight. Some ThinkPad purists will have complaints, but we should take notice that the red LED light is gone from the lid (it was very unThinkPad) and all the design changes are in line with what businesses expect from a T series notebook (for example, no titanium lid). Buyers will have to consider the lack of discrete graphics and limited options with the processor, as well as the use of a 1.8-inch disk, but you still have the optical drive, a great keyboard, and very nice build quality. For that person that needs a T series, but travels a lot or just wants to save some weight, the T400s will be an excellent option.

Realizing business users will also value wireless connectivity and VoIP communications, Lenovo well equipped this notebook with a two megapixel camera for better quality images, better, louder speakers than were found on the T400, and a range of wireless connectivity options. To help reduce ambient noise, Lenovo also added dual digital microphones as well as separate speaker and microphone mute buttons with LED lights to indicate which button is on.
Overall, Lenovo’s new T400s offers many advantages over previous models. If a thin and light notebook is on your wish list, and extreme graphics performance isn’t a must-have feature, then the T400s is absolutely a worthy contender.Leistung 40, Mobilität 60, Emissionen 80

Retailing at a starting price of US$1500 (~S$2185) for the base models, the ThinkPad T400s is priced low enough to compete with the other similar portable business notebooks in the market. Bear in mind though, the higher end models (which is similar to our review unit's configuration) will definitely be priced much higher, especially when you factor in a sizable SSD drive. Overall, the Lenovo ThinkPad T400s is a well built and portable business notebook that can stand up to whatever duty calls for and as such we're giving this unit our Editor's Choice award. Of course, for many enterprise users it’s Windows or nothing, and as long as you’re not expecting to do any major video crunching the T400s should prove a highly capable machine. The extra screen space, more powerful processor and improved port selection above the T301 come with a relatively minor bulk and weight increase, which the sober casing hides well. We can’t help but wish that the 9-cell battery option of the T400 was available, but the ability to hot-swap the optical drive for a second battery (or a second hard-drive) goes a long way to making up for it.

The Lenovo T410 model price is competitive yet there are many available options on the computer market. There are reductions available at the Lenovo website, the price available is in line with current competitor prices. For $1079 dollars you can buy this base model, and with customization the price will be somewhat higher. Having put the latest ThinkPad T410 through its paces, we're hardly surprised by most of the results. ThinkPad has always been renowned for their build quality and durability, and the T410 is no exception. It may not look as stylish as other laptops (depending on your definition of style), but no business user would ever feel bad about carrying around a modern ThinkPad. Our test unit rang up at just under $1500, with the base unit listing for $999. For business users, these prices are reasonable given the sturdiness and performance available. The only real downside is the lackluster battery life, which is to be expected when you're using a performance-oriented CPU and GPU combination (it would be so nice if Lenovo build an option for this machine that NVIDIA Optimus enabled). The Lenovo ThinkPad T410s is a great laptop that is handicapped by a small battery. The inclusion of Nvidia Optimus hasn't done anything to change that, which isn't surprising - previous models with Intel integrated graphics were already known for having short battery life. Short battery life isn't the end of the world. Most laptop users are fine with just three hours of battery life.

Naturally, few ThinkPads come at a discount, and the $1,985 price tag is likely too steep for most (try subbing that HD in lieu of the SSD to trim the cost a bit), but our sole operational complaint is one of battery life. That ultra-bright screen clearly exacts its toll on your power cell, with the T410s turning in just 83 minutes of DVD playback while operating at full brightness. It may not be able to make it through back-to-back episodes of Mad Men, but you'll certainly love it while it's running.

While adding a slight bump up in processor power and some minor system tweaks to a laptop might seem like baby steps on Lenovo's part, making the best thin-and-light business notebook on the market even better at any level is a feat. A faster processor and other tweaks make the ThinkPad T410s better than its predecessor—which was already the best business thin-and-light we’ve tested.

Lenovo's ThinkPad T410s offers a nice alternative to the traditional T410 with a more compact frame that is small but still includes an internal DVD drive. Performance has improved with the Core i5 dual core processor but storage performance is a bit lower with the traditional hard drive. Durability and ergonomics are outstanding for the system that really set it apart from many other business laptops. It would be nice to see a slightly lower price tag or more memory though.

A good battery, life, fast performance, plenty of connectivity and a solid design mean the ThinkPad T510 should be a prime choice for business use — and, indeed, for anyone who wants a good all-round notebook. You also get a fingerprint reader (with which you can just swipe your finger to boot and log in to the system) and 3D hard drive protection, but it doesn't ship with extensive security tools for hard drive encryption and password management.

The construction, speed and feature set are all top of the pile - it's the workstation to beat. Lenovo's eagerly awaited ThinkPad workstation refresh hasn't disappointed. The new T510 packs Intel's latest dual-core 32nm Core i7-620M, which ups the old i7-720QM's clock speed to 2.66GHz and drops the maximum TDP to 35W. In short, it's the most efficient mobile Core i7 chip yet.

While the Lenovo ThinkPad T510 starts at $939, our test system is priced at around $1,400 in good part because of the powerful processor and GPU inside. If you are already spending this kind of money on a Core i7 equipped notebook, I would recommend upgrading to at least 4GB of system memory and a faster 7,200 RPM hard drive. An SSD would make this a killer workstation, but obviously price would get bumped considerably as a result.

This is a ThinkPad first and foremost. It’s a powerful business workhorse, with a few touches for the consumer - making it ideal for the home office. Intel’s Core i5 processor gives it more than an enough power for most tasks, and there’s enough battery life to give you nearly a full day away from the plug if you’re not online all the time. It’s comfortable, not too heavy, and with a good quality screen. We’d have like a little more RAM and a little more screen resolution, but they’re only minor quibbles with a quality laptop that has the key features for getting work done and entertaining yourself afterwards; pick the faster hard drive or the SSD to soup it up a little and you still get a professional quality system.

The solid build of the ThinkPad T510 make it a good traveller, but it is weighty and battery life is not as good as it could be. The keyboard is a pleasure to use, though some may find the range of options and combination of TrackPoint and Touchpad a little overwhelming. If you are lured by the low price, hold fire. You may well find you need to upgrade a fair few elements to get the laptop that suits you best.

Pick up this laptop if you want a 15.6-inch computer that’s relatively slim and light, and which can be configured to your liking. Its keys and touchpad are very good, and the rest of the configuration can be very good, too, if you opt for the right things. We’d opt for the 2880x1620-pixel anti-glare IPS display if colours and viewing angles concern you, and we’d go for an SSD-based model in order to get the best performance and mobility.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T460p is one of the best multitasking laptops I've tested in a long time, thanks to its quad-core CPU, and it doesn't hurt that the battery will last an entire workday. But that power may be overkill for most mainstream business users. The original T460 (starting at $809) provides a similar look, the same MIL-SPEC 810G-tested durability and even longer battery life while using a dual-core processor.

The original T460 (starting at $809) provides a similar look, the same MIL-SPEC 810G-tested durability and even longer battery life while using a dual-core processor.

Lenovo:
