Terraria recently proved that it has earned the trust of more than just a small, loyal community, announcing that the indie game has been installed on 60.7 million systems, despite — or maybe as a result of — launching over 13 years ago. More than half of those gamers also happen to be on PC.

Re-Logic, the developer behind Terraria has announced that the 13-year-old indie survival crafting hit has been installed on 60.7 million systems, across the various different platforms the game is available for. This success, along with other long-lived games, like Warframe, goes contrary to the narrative in modern gaming that success has to be immediate.

According to the announcement, 33 million PC gamers have installed Terraria on their systems, with the rest belonging to Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, PS Vita, and Xbox, although there is likely a pretty sizeable cohort on Switch. According to Google Play, Android installs only account for "5M+ downloads," and, while that's certainly nothing to scoff at, especially for a platform as averse to paid apps as Android, it's surprising to see it fall behind PC so spectacularly.

Speaking of your support, we are thrilled to reveal that Terraria has finally eclipsed the 60 million units milestone (60.7m to be precise) - with 33m on PC alone! Simply put, we could not do what we do every day while maintaining the principles we hold so dearly without your support. Thank you doesn't do it justice - rest assured we aim to keep being worthy of that support. —Re-Logic

Terraria's commercial success is also a testament to the success of Re-Logic's long-term support strategy, especially in light of recent news about the likes of Ubisoft pulling developer support for Prince of Persia The Lost Crown because it “only” reached 1 million copies sold.

Along with celebrating its active community and impressive sales figures, Re-Logic also announced further bug fixes, game tweaks, and improvements. You can read into the incoming changes here, but it's notable that the developer is still supporting the game after so long, despite shunning microtransactions entirely.

If you haven't already, check out Terraria on Steam, which is a perfect fit for a gaming handheld, like the Asus ROG Ally (curr. $649.99 at Best Buy).
