Contra
El Dell XPS 13 sigue siendo un subportátil excelente y, como tal, definitivamente merece las repetidas apariciones en nuestra lista de las 10 principales. Un aguante de 11.5 horas, una pantalla con 90% de cobertura sRGB y un brillo decente, un robusto chasis de aluminio, un sistema silencioso de ventiladores, sonido decente dado el tamaño, muchos puertos y facilidad de mantenimiento. Todos estos atributos hacen que el portátil de 13" sea muy deseable.
La pregunta principal que nos hicimos al principio de este análisis: ¿es adecuada la CPU Kaby Lake R i5 o la actualización a i7 vale la pena el dinero?
En nuestra opinión, el SoC de gama baja es más que suficiente para la mayoría de los usuarios, a menos que la intención sea ejecutar principalmente aplicaciones en paralelo. Tanto los procesadores i5 como i7 aceleran su velocidad cuando están sujetos a cargas prolongadas y el rendimiento disminuye en un 8 y 9%, respectivamente. En ningún momento, durante nuestras pruebas, los núcleos alcanzaron sus respectivas velocidades máximas teóricas de Turbo de 3.4 y 4.0 GHz. La diferencia de rendimiento de la CPU entre las versiones i5 e i7 del XPS 13 es muy pequeña y oscila entre el +19% en su mejor versión y el +7% en el peor de los casos (pruebas entre únicos frente a múltiples subprocesos). El i7 se adelanta un poco cuando se trata del rendimiento del sistema (+ 8%).
Ambas versiones de XPS 13 superan a otros portatiles como HP Envy 13-ad006ng o Apple MacBook Pro 13 2017 por la solidez de sus CPU, Kaby Lake R con 8 subprocesos. El i7, por ejemplo, tiene un rendimiento superior al 70% (R15 Multi, Kaby i7 frente a Kaby R i7). El nuevo quad-core i5 es hasta un 75% más rápido que el anterior dual-core 7200U (R15 Multi).
