La Asus Prime GeForce RTX 5080 Founders Edition es una GPU SFF basada en la última GPU Blackwell GB203 de Nvidia. Veredicto: GPU RTX 5080 SFF con una propuesta de valor cuestionable

Asus ha hecho un movimiento interesante este año al ampliar su serie Prime, tradicionalmente centrada en la gama media, para incluir la emblemática RTX 5080. La Prime GeForce RTX 5080 OC Edition busca ser una alternativa capaz a la propia RTX 5080 Founders Edition de Nvidia.

La Prime RTX 5080 OC luce un diseño minimalista pero funcional que ocupa sólo 2,5 ranuras, lo que la hace ideal para construcciones de pequeño factor de forma (SFF).

En términos de rendimiento bruto, la Prime RTX 5080 OC Edition ofrece una modesta mejora del 2-3% respecto a la RTX 5080 FE tanto en pruebas de rendimiento sintéticas como en escenarios de juego reales.

La mejora con respecto a la Radeon RX 7900 XTX es más tangible, del orden del 10-13% según el punto de referencia o el juego.

La Prime RTX 5090 OC también se beneficia de la tan cacareada pila de software de Nvidia, y la tarjeta es totalmente compatible con las últimas capacidades de generación de fotogramas múltiples DLSS 4 de la arquitectura Blackwell.

Asus incorpora una eficaz solución de refrigeración para la Prime RTX 5080 OC que mantiene las emisiones de calor y ruido de la tarjeta en niveles razonables teniendo en cuenta el rendimiento que ofrece.

Aunque no puede equivocarse con la Prime RTX 5080 OC, hay que tener en cuenta algunas advertencias. El consumo de energía de esta tarjeta durante los juegos puede ser ligeramente superior al de la RTX 5080 FE, sin que se perciban ganancias en los fotogramas.

La VRAM GDDR7 de 16 GB, aunque mucho más rápida que la implementación GDDR6X del año pasado, puede convertirse rápidamente en un cuello de botella en ciertos títulos exigentes, aunque esto se aplica a todas las RTX 5080 en general.

El aspecto más polémico de la Prime RTX 5080 OC, sin embargo, es su precio. Suponiendo que pueda hacerse con una, tendrá que pagar 321 dólares más que el precio de 999 dólares de la RTX 5080 FE por un rendimiento prácticamente nulo.

La serie Prime está diseñada para PC de formato pequeño (SFF). Se introdujo por primera vez con la gama de la serie RTX 40, pero sólo se limitaba a las GPU RTX 4060 y RTX 4070 y sus revisiones. Este año, Asus ha ampliado la serie Prime para incluir la RTX 5080.

Un rápido recorrido por la Asus Prime GeForce RTX 5080 OC Edition

Con unas dimensiones de 304 x 126 x 50 mm, la Prime GeForce RTX 5080 OC es ligeramente más gruesa que la RTX 5080 FE. Sin embargo, sigue siendo una tarjeta SFF, ocupando sólo 2,5 ranuras.

La cubierta frontal es de plástico de alta calidad, aunque nos habría gustado que fuera más resistente, y se complementa con una placa posterior metálica.

Los logotipos "GeForce RTX" y "PRIME" aparecen de forma destacada en la cubierta frontal, pero no hay ningún tipo de RGB alrededor de ellos.

Puertos: 3x salida DisplayPort 2.1b, 1x salida HDMI 2.1b

La Prime RTX 5080 OC ofrece la típica serie de conectores de pantalla como la inmensa mayoría de las GPU del mercado. Los tres conectores DisplayPort soportan por fin el estándar DisplayPort 2.1b.

A diferencia de la serie TUF Gaming que ofrece 2 salidas HDMI, la Prime RTX 5080 OC se conforma con una sola salida HDMI 2.1b.

Un conector 12VHPWR mantiene la tarjeta alimentada con la energía necesaria. Asus incluye un adaptador de 12VHPWR a 3x 8 patillas para utilizarlo con fuentes de alimentación que no sean compatibles con ATX 3.x.

Al igual que en otras tarjetas Asus, un indicador LED situado junto al conector 12VHPWR se ilumina en rojo para indicar una conexión incorrecta del adaptador o una fuente de alimentación inadecuada.

La Prime RTX 5080 OC incorpora un interruptor de modo de doble BIOS que alterna entre los modos Rendimiento y Silencio. Utilizamos el modo Rendimiento para todas las pruebas comparativas y también comparamos los niveles de ruido de los ventiladores entre ambos modos.

No hay soporte para GPU con un destornillador integrado proporcionado como vemos en la serie TUF Gaming, probablemente debido al factor de forma compacto de la tarjeta.

La Prime GeForce RTX 5080 OC está preparada para un reloj boost por defecto de 2.655 MHz, que es 38 MHz más rápido que la Founders Edition, manteniendo la misma potencia gráfica total (TGP) de 360 W. En el modo Rendimiento, esta tarjeta puede aumentar aún más hasta un pico de 2.685 MHz.

Es posible aumentar el límite de potencia en un 11% adicional para una TGP máxima de 400 W.

La Asus Prime GeForce RTX 5080 OC Edition tiene un rendimiento más o menos similar a la RTX 5080 FE en las pruebas comparativas sintéticas. Los aumentos marginalmente superiores se traducen en una ventaja de sólo el 2% en las pruebas acumulativas de 3DMark y Unigine.

Mientras tanto, la Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 7900 XTX logra una ganancia del 4% sobre la Prime RTX 5080 OC en 3DMark Fire Strike Graphics, pero es apaleada en las pruebas Port Royal y Speed Way que implican trazado de rayos.

Tanto la Prime RTX 5080 OC como la RTX 5080 FE tardan el mismo tiempo en terminar los renders CUDA de Blender 3.3 Classroom y Optix de Classroom, mientras que no muestran diferencias prácticas en las pruebas de V-Ray.

La Prime GeForce RTX 5080 OC Edition sólo supera a la RTX 5080 FE por el más estrecho de los márgenes en las pruebas de juegos acumulados a 1080p, 1440p y 4K Ultra, mientras que supera a la Radeon RX 7900 XTX en un 13% en general.

La mayor ventaja de la RX 7900 XTX viene de F1 24 a 4K Ultra, donde la Prime RTX 5080 OC es un 47% más rápida.

Curiosamente, en Alan Wake 2 la GPU insignia RDNA 3 muestra hasta un 12% de ventaja sobre la Prime RTX 5080 OC y hasta un 18% sobre la RTX 5080 FE.

Sólo un puñado de títulos soportan actualmente DLSS 4 generación multiframe (MFG) fuera de la caja. Sin embargo, muchos otros juegos compatibles pueden utilizar DLSS 4 (para todas las GPU RTX) y MFG (sólo para las GPU Blackwell) a través de anulaciones en la aplicación Nvidia

En comparación con Alan Wake 2 o Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty, Star Wars Outlaws muestra ganancias del 5-7% en la Prime RTX 5080 OC respecto a la RTX 5080 FE con DLSS y la generación de fotogramas activados.

Curiosamente, observamos un resultado anómalo en Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty con MFG 2x activado en el preajuste 4K Ray Tracing Overdrive, en el que la Prime RTX 5080 OC rindió un 31% más lenta que la RTX 5080 FE.

A pesar de comprobar dos veces que la configuración, el controlador y la versión del sistema operativo eran idénticos para ambas pruebas, la tarjeta de Asus se queda atrás inesperadamente.

La Prime GeForce RTX 5080 OC Edition muestra un consumo de energía algo inferior al de la RTX 5080 FE en FurMark (1.280 x 720, sin AA) a pesar de tener una velocidad de reloj superior.

Por el contrario, mientras que el consumo de energía en Cyberpunk 2077 1080p Ultra es prácticamente idéntico entre la GPU Prime RTX 5080 OC y la RTX 5080 FE, la tarjeta Asus muestra un consumo un 13% superior en comparación con la FE en The Witcher 3 a 1080p Ultra.
