La GeForce GTX 1660 cierra la brecha entre la GTX 1650 y la GTX 1660 Ti, aunque ahora NVIDIA también ha lanzado los sabores SUPER de las GTX 1650 y GTX 1660. La GTX 1660 viene con 6 GB de GDDR5 VRAM, mientras que la PNY XLR8 Gaming OC tiene un TDP relativamente económico de 120 W. NVIDIA ha incluido un conector de alimentación de 8 clavijas en la GTX 1660, ya que requiere un poco más de energía bajo carga que su hermano de Turing, la GTX 1650. Sin embargo, la GTX 1660 tiene menos sombreadores y unidades de textura que la GTX 1660 Ti, junto con GDDR5 en lugar de GDDR6 VRAM. En consecuencia, la GTX 1660 también tiene un ancho de banda de memoria menor que la GTX 1660 Ti, aunque ambas funcionan en el mismo bus de memoria. El sistema de prueba - AMD Ryzen 9 3900X como base
Hemos emparejado el XLR8 Gaming OC con una placa base MSI MEG X570 Godlike y un procesador AMD AMD Ryzen 9 3900X para nuestras pruebas. El Ryzen 9 3900X ofrece un rendimiento excelente, tal y como descubrimos en nuestra revisión a principios de este año, y utilizamos un bucle silencioso de 280 mm AIO para mantenerlo fresco. También utilizamos 16 GB de RAM de G-Skill Trident Z Royal Gold que dejamos registrados a 3.600 MHz en CL16-16-16-36. Por último, realizamos todos nuestros análisis y pruebas en un monitor Acer Predator XB321HK, un monitor 4K que hemos utilizado en muchos de nuestros análisis de juegos.

Velocidades - Un aumento más alto que las velocidades de referencia de NVIDIA
El XLR8 Gaming OC se mantiene cerca de las velocidades de referencia de NVIDIA. Sin embargo, la tarjeta puede alcanzar los 1.830 MHz, que son 45 MHz más altos que el reloj de referencia de 1.785 MHz. Sin embargo, su reloj base de 1.530 MHz no ha cambiado, al igual que su velocidad de reloj VRAM de 2.000 MHz. Por consiguiente, el XLR8 Gaming OC tiene el mismo ancho de banda de memoria de 192,1 GB/s que otras tarjetas GTX 1660.
Benchmarks sintéticos - A la altura de la Radeon RX 570
El XLR8 Gaming OC funcionó como se esperaba en las pruebas de referencia sintéticas, es decir, entre el GTX 1650 y el GTX 1660 Ti. Sin embargo, la diferencia entre nuestra unidad de revisión y la GTX 1660 Ti es de entre el 10 y el 30%. Sin embargo, nuestra unidad de revisión obtiene una puntuación hasta un 60% superior a la de la GTX 1650, y las mayores diferencias se producen a resoluciones más altas debido a los 2 GB adicionales de VRAM que tiene la GTX 1660.
En comparación con AMD, el XLR8 Gamin OC tiene un rendimiento similar al del AMD Radeon RX 570. Mientras que el primero coincide con el segundo en la mayoría de los casos, el RX 570 ocasionalmente tiene una ventaja debido a su mayor volumen de VRAM.

Benchmarks de juegos - Un sólido jugador de 1080p
El XLR8 Gaming OC también convenció en nuestras pruebas de juego. Sin embargo, la GPU se queda sin vapor a 1440p y 2160p, por lo que recomendamos utilizarla sólo para juegos de 1080p. Aunque la GPU es limitada en ese sentido, supera a la GTX 1650 en mayor medida que en las pruebas de referencia sintéticas, como demuestran las tablas que se muestran a continuación.
Nuestra unidad de revisión también cierra la brecha con la GTX 1660 Ti, aunque tenga en cuenta que hemos probado esta última en un sistema de pruebas más lento. Por el contrario, nuestras GPUs de comparación de la generación Polaris tienen dificultades para seguir el ritmo del XLR8 Gaming OC. Incluso el XFX RX 590 se queda corto con respecto a nuestra unidad de revisión, lo que resulta bastante sorprendente. Sólo las GPUs Navi superan al XLR8 Gaming OC de nuestras tarjetas de comparación AMD, pero son significativamente más caras que las que ofrece PNY.
En resumen, el XLR8 Gaming OC ofrece un buen rendimiento en los juegos. La tarjeta puede incluso manejar los últimos juegos de triple A como Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, GRID (2019) o Need for Speed Heat en 1080p. Mientras tanto, los títulos que requieren menos recursos, como FIFA 20, pueden incluso jugarse a 2160p.
También observamos cómo funciona la tarjeta bajo carga sostenida al ejecutar The Witcher 3 en el ultra preestablecido a 1080p durante una hora. Como muestra el gráfico siguiente, el refrigerador integrado mantiene la GPU lo suficientemente fría como para mantener el rendimiento máximo durante periodos prolongados. Nuestra unidad de revisión sólo fluctuó entre 54 y 59 FPS durante esta prueba, por lo que no debería notar ninguna disminución del rendimiento en sesiones de juego largas. Los tiempos de encuadre tampoco fueron nada destacable.

Emisiones - Ruidoso, pero sin quejidos de la bobina
PNY ha establecido el TDP del XLR8 Gaming OC en 120 W, igual que el GTX 1660 Ti. Sin embargo, este último ofrece un mejor rendimiento por vatio debido a su mayor volumen de unidades de sombreado y textura. Tener GDDR6 VRAM en lugar de GDDR5 ayuda a la GTX 1660 Ti a alejarse también de la GTX 1660.
Nuestro sistema de prueba consume poco menos de 80 W en ralentí, un valor que aumenta a 248 W bajo carga sostenida. Por cierto, el PNY permite aumentar la potencia objetivo (PT) de la GPU hasta el 107%, lo que da como resultado un TDP máximo de 128,4 W. Lo confirmamos durante nuestras pruebas, mientras que nuestro sistema de pruebas también alcanzó un máximo de 258 W bajo carga.
No encontramos ningún problema de temperatura con el XLR8 Gaming OC durante nuestras pruebas. La temperatura del núcleo alcanzó su punto máximo a 76 °C incluso con el PT ajustado al 107%, aunque el PCB alcanzó los 86 °C. Sin embargo, esto sigue estando dentro de los límites de seguridad. La reducción del PT al 100% provocó que las temperaturas bajaran también a 80 °C en la parte posterior de la placa de circuito impreso.
Además, el ventilador de la GPU funciona más silenciosamente cuando está al 100% de potencia, pero nuestra unidad de revisión siempre funciona a un volumen comparativamente alto. Sin embargo, no oímos ningún quejido de la bobina durante nuestras pruebas.

Veredicto - Una alternativa asequible y compacta para juegos de 1080p
Cualquiera que tenga un presupuesto de unos 250 euros (~276 dólares) para una nueva tarjeta gráfica se topará tarde o temprano con una GeForce GTX 1660. La PNY GeForce GTX 1660 XLR8 Gaming OC puede manejar todos los títulos modernos en al menos 1080p y con el máximo de gráficos. Mientras que la tarjeta es capaz de jugar algunos juegos como FIFA 20 a 2160p, la GTX 1660 ofrece un rendimiento por vatio peor que la GTX 1660 Ti. Esto es de esperar, ya que las dos tarjetas comparten el mismo TDP, pero la GTX 1660 Ti tiene la ventaja en muchas otras especificaciones.
La PNY GeForce GTX 1660 XLR8 Gaming OC cuesta aproximadamente 225 euros (~249 dólares) en el momento de escribir este artículo, y debería encajar en la mayoría de los modelos de PC compactos. Sus 6 GB de VRAM tampoco retienen la tarjeta, ya que nuestra unidad de revisión se defendió contra el AMD Radeon RX 570, que tiene 2 GB adicionales de VRAM.
Si está indeciso sobre el XLR8 Gaming OC, entonces vale la pena tener en cuenta que la tarjeta no es la más silenciosa del mercado. Incluso podemos escuchar nuestra unidad de revisión zumbando en un caso cerrado, por lo que le recomendamos que compre una versión de doble ventilador si desea una construcción silenciosa.
La PNY GeForce GTX 1660 XLR8 Gaming OC ofrece una excelente relación calidad-precio. Sin embargo, no alcanza el rendimiento por vatio que ofrece la GeForce GTX 1660 Ti.
En general, nos gustó el rendimiento que ofrece el PNY GeForce GTX 1660 XLR8 Gaming OC. En la actualidad, NVIDIA casi se ha lanzado al mercado de forma gratuita, ya que AMD no ha sacado al mercado ninguna GPU nueva y asequible. Aunque esto podría cambiar pronto, las tarjetas Polaris siguen siendo la única alternativa a la serie GeForce GTX 16 de NVIDIA. AMD tiene su serie Radeon RX 5700, pero su precio es diferente al de la serie GTX 16 y están diseñados para juegos de 1440p.
