Después de probar previamente numerosos portátiles que incorporaban la flamante iGPU Arc 8 de Intel, ahora le toca el turno a la ligeramente adelgazada Arc 7. El IdeaPad Slim 5 también se enfrentará a portátiles basados en la Radeon 780M. ¿Quién reinará?

Los usuarios que busquen un portátil versátil, delgado y ligero que ofrezca una potencia decente pueden quedar satisfechos con el IdeaPad Slim 5 14IMH9. Por unos 1.000 dólares, este dispositivo de 14 pulgadas cuenta con un Core Ultra 5 125H, 16 GB de RAM LPDDR5x-7467 (no ampliable) y una SSD NVMe de 512 GB. Como pantalla, el portátil utiliza una OLED reflectante 16:10 a 60 Hz (1.920 x 1.200 píxeles) que cubre DCI-P3 en su totalidad. El sistema operativo Windows 11 Home completa el paquete.

Caso

La carcasa del portátil tiene muy buena pinta. Empezando por su diseño elegante y su tamaño compacto, aunque la competencia ofrece valores similares en estas áreas. Su peso moderado de 1,4 kg tampoco da motivos para quejarse, lo que significa que podrá llevar cómodamente consigo el dispositivo de 14 pulgadas. Aparte de algunos pequeños detalles, su estabilidad y calidad de construcción también son buenas.

Su bisagra no es ni demasiado floja ni demasiado rígida; es posible abrir el dispositivo con una sola mano, aunque la unidad base tiende a veces a balancearse un poco al hacerlo. Gracias a su color relativamente claro, apenas se aprecian las marcas de huellas dactilares. Su ángulo máximo de apertura es de 160°.

Todavía hay margen de mejora en lo que respecta a los puertos del dispositivo. Aunque el portátil de 14 pulgadas cuenta con un total de cuatro puertos USB, incluso sus dos puertos Type-C sólo cumplen con el estándar 3.2 Gen 1, aunque sí son compatibles con DisplayPort 1.4 y Power Delivery 3.0. También hay una toma de audio, un puerto HDMI 1.4b anticuado y un lector de tarjetas microSD. Como los puertos están situados en la mitad posterior de los dos paneles laterales, se puede utilizar un ratón externo sin dificultades (de espacio).

Comunicación

El portátil tampoco mostró sorpresas en lo que respecta a su rendimiento WLAN. A un metro de nuestro router de referencia, el módulo Intel instalado (Wi-Fi 6E AX211) ofreció valores bastante buenos que a menudo se parecían a los de sus competidores.

La calidad de su webcam se sitúa justo por encima del -desgraciadamente miserable- estándar para portátiles. El modelo de 2 MP se ve más nítido que gran parte de la competencia, aunque no consigue ofrecer una buena precisión del color, como es habitual.

Lenovo entrega el portátil junto con unos manuales informativos y una fuente de alimentación compacta de 65 vatios (USB C).

Mantenimiento

Sus opciones de mantenimiento se parecen mucho a las del Yoga Pro 7. Esto significa que su placa inferior está sujeta por 6 tornillos Torx y varios soportes. A diferencia de su hermano de 14 pulgadas, Lenovo no ha implementado una unidad de refrigeración de doble ventilador; en su lugar, confía en un ventilador relativamente grande. El módulo WLAN y la SSD están cubiertos por una lámina. Por desgracia, la RAM está soldada.

Dispositivos de entrada

Teclado

Al igual que en el Yoga Pro 7, los dispositivos de entrada del IdeaPad Slim 5 son dignos de elogio. Su teclado cuenta con una buena distribución (aparte de las pequeñas teclas de flecha centrales) y las teclas tienen un buen tamaño. También se siente mejor al escribir en este teclado en comparación con la mayoría de otros fabricantes, aunque el ruido de sus teclas es bastante alto para un modelo clásico de cúpula de goma. Las sesiones nocturnas de escritura no suponen ningún problema gracias a su retroiluminación blanca instalada.

Panel táctil

Su panel táctil también es bueno, si ignora las zonas de clic que suenan ligeramente ratoneras. Un tamaño de 12 x 7,5 cm es respetable para un dispositivo de 14 pulgadas. En nuestra prueba, nunca tuvo problemas de precisión ni de soporte de gestos. Su superficie es bastante suave, lo que significa que los dedos se deslizan sobre ella agradablemente.

Mostrar

Cuando se trata de pantallas OLED, los gustos difieren. Si va a pasar mucho tiempo utilizando su portátil en habitaciones luminosas o al aire libre, entonces sería mejor que buscara un dispositivo con un acabado mate. La superficie brillante de nuestra configuración de prueba suele provocar reflejos muy fuertes y desagradables.

Aparte de esto, la pantalla OLED es sobre todo un éxito. Gracias a su valor de negro increíblemente bajo (prácticamente 0 cd/m²), el Slim 5 ofrece unos contrastes asombrosos con los que los paneles IPS convencionales sólo pueden soñar. Sus ángulos de visión también son impresionantes.

Lo mismo puede decirse de sus tiempos de respuesta, con los que incluso los usuarios exigentes deberían estar satisfechos. Otros aspectos destacables son su generosa cobertura del espacio de color (alrededor del 100 % de DCI-P3 y AdobeRGB) y su precisión del color, en general elevada, nada más sacarlo de la caja.

Tiempos de respuesta del display

Los tiempos de respuesta del display muestran lo rápido que puede cambiar la pantalla de un color al siguiente. Tiempos lentos de respuesta pueden llevar a imágenes persistentes alrededor de objetos en movimiento o a displays borrosos. Particularmente los aficionados a los juegos 3D frenéticos deberían usar una pantalla con tiempos de respuesta rápidos.

La pantalla mostró tiempos de respuesta muy rápidos en nuestros tests y debería ser adecuada para juegos frenéticos.

Parpadeo de Pantalla / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Para atenuar el brillo de pantalla algunos portátiles están encendiendo y apagando la retroiluminación muy rápidamente. Esto se hace a una frecuencia que no debiera detectarse a simple vista. Si la frecuencia es demasiado lenta, la gente sensible podría experimentar problemas visuales, dolores de cabeza e incluso ver parpadeos.

La retroiluminación del display parpadea a 240 Hz (seguramente usa PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) .

La frecuencia de 240 Hz es relativamente baja, por lo que la gente sensible debería ver parpadeos y padecer fatiga visual por la pantalla (usado al brillo indicado a continuación).

Comparación: 53 % de todos los dispositivos testados no usaron PWM para atenuar el display. Si se usó, medimos una media de 8715 (mínimo: 5 - máxmo: 343500) Hz.

Rendimiento

El IdeaPad Slim 5 es un portátil de gama media. Los usuarios deben decidir cuidadosamente de antemano si 16 GB de RAM son suficientes a largo plazo, ya que -como se criticó anteriormente- no se puede intercambiar. Su SSD M.2 (que también es sólo un modelo de 2242) técnicamente podría cambiarse por un modelo más grande de 2280.

Condiciones de prueba

Procesador

El Core Ultra 5 125H es el hermano más barato del Core Ultra 7 155H del Yoga 7 Pro y puede manejar 18 hilos paralelos en lugar de 22. Su velocidad de reloj y su caché (18 frente a 24 MB) también son ligeramente inferiores. Aún así, el Ultra 5 125H lo hizo bastante bien en nuestras pruebas de referencia. Tarjeta gráfica

La iGPU integrada en el Core Ultra 5 125H se llama Arco 7 y en comparación con el Arc 8incorpora 112 en lugar de 128 motores vectoriales Xe y 7 en lugar de 8 unidades/samplers de trazado de rayos, lo que no supone una reducción terriblemente grande. Como era de esperar, el IdeadPad Slim 5 fue capaz de mantenerse a la altura de los dispositivos basados en el Ultra 7 155H y (al menos en las pruebas comparativas de gráficos sintéticos) quedó justo por delante de la Radeon 780M del Yoga Pro 7. Si quiere jugar ocasionalmente, entonces puede que le vaya mejor con el Arc 8, ya que algunos juegos que probamos sufrieron cuelgues más que otros (con controladores idénticos), al menos cuando se utilizaban ajustes más altos, pero aun así, los juegos no habrían sido jugables entonces, de todos modos.

Siempre que no se exceda con la resolución (máximo Full HD) y se conforme con unos ajustes bajos o medios, el Arc 7 también es adecuado para ciertos juegos modernos. Las cosas se ponen difíciles cuando intenta ejecutar juegos extremadamente exigentes y/o moderadamente optimizados como Alan Wake 2, Starfield, Lords of The Fallen, Avatar Frontiers of Pandora y Enshrouded. En este caso, tendrá que utilizar inevitablemente resoluciones inferiores dentro de la gama HD o el escalado ascendente en forma de XeSS de Intel (si los juegos lo admiten). Un positivo: Durante nuestra prueba a largo plazo utilizando La Witcher 3 (aprox. 1 hora @ FHD/Ultra), su velocidad de fotogramas se mantuvo agradable y estable. El Asus ZenBook 14 y el HP Spectre x360, por el contrario, mostraron enormes fluctuaciones.

Emisiones sonoras

Las emisiones de ruido del portátil están bien, sin ser demasiado impresionantes. En modo inactivo y al realizar tareas sencillas como trabajos de oficina, reproducir vídeos y navegar por Internet, sus emisiones de ruido están bien, en torno a los 30 dB(A). Sin embargo, bajo carga, el dispositivo de 14 pulgadas es más ruidoso que la competencia con el Arc 8, y eso a pesar de su menor rendimiento, aunque 40-45 dB(A) sigue estando algo bien. Si desea algo más silencioso, quizá le convenga hacer uso del modo de ahorro de batería, aunque al hacerlo, el rendimiento del portátil se ve muy limitado.

Prueba de esfuerzo

La prueba de estrés con las herramientas Furmark y Prime95 no reveló ninguna sorpresa desagradable. Aunque el Core Ultra 5 125H alcanzó la marca de los 100 °C al principio, su temperatura se equilibró rápidamente en unos nada alarmantes 80 °C. Altavoces

En comparación con el Yoga Pro 7, que tiene unos altavoces bastante buenos, la calidad de sonido del IdeaPad Slim 5 es significativamente peor. Según nuestro análisis de audio, sus graves son especialmente débiles, por lo que deberá conectar unos auriculares o un sistema de sonido externo para disfrutar adecuadamente de los medios.

Si puede hacer las paces con una superficie de pantalla reflectante, el IdeaPad Slim 5 14IMH9 es un portátil polivalente/multimedia de éxito, en casi todos los sentidos. El Core Ultra 5 125Hha sido, en su mayor parte, un éxito. Gracias a sus IGPU Arcintel ha alcanzado por fin a las Radeon 680M y 780M tras muchos años a la zaga, aunque AMD ya podría haber vuelto a tomar la delantera si no se hubiera dormido en los laureles.

Independientemente de esto, Lenovo ha hecho muchas cosas bien con su IdeaPad Slim 5 14.

Su carcasa causa una impresión de alta calidad y ofrece un teclado mejor en comparación con lo que se suele conseguir dentro de esta clase de precio. Su peso, la duración de la batería y las emisiones apenas dan motivos para quejarse, tampoco. Por otro lado, muchos compradores potenciales podrían sentirse disuadidos debido a que su memoria RAM está soldada, lo que impide ampliarla. Además, tendrá que conformarse con un sonido mediocre y una selección de puertos algo anticuada (sin Thunderbolt 4, sólo HDMI 1.4b).

En conjunto, el dispositivo de 14 pulgadas se ha quedado a las puertas de obtener una calificación de "muy bueno", como el HP Spectre x360 14 o la versión Intel/Versión AMD del Yoga Pro 7 14 gestionado. Su valoración general es más similar a la del ZenBook 14 de Asus, que es (también) más caro.

En el momento de escribir estas líneas, el Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 14IMH9 con Core Ultra 5 125H aún no está disponible para su compra en línea en Estados Unidos. Es probable que se venda al por menor por unos 1.000 dólares.
